After some begging on Twitter, VegaTenshi managed to convince me to give you a JPOV. Enjoy it, cause he seems to be as elusive to me as he is to Bella. In any event, VT asked for the official introduction between Jasper and Bella. She also asked for the pancake eating contest...I doubt anyone, most of all Emmett wants to re-live the meatcakes. LOL Lucky for us, I was able to get Jasper to stop driving around on his Harley long enough to share his thoughts on meeting Bella.
Who knows when the next JPOV will come...I'm not sure...but it will be posted here so if you are interested, be sure to put me or this story on alert! And feel free to let me know what you'd like to see for future out-takes. If Jasper is feeling chatty, I might be able to squeeze another snippit out of him here and there. More than likely they will supplement Golden Gloves and won't be full length chapters; but as you can see with this one, they will contain little nuggets of information Bella hasn't learned yet.
This JPOV corresponds with Chapter 3 of Golden Gloves
"Right, so here's the change room. Lockers aren't assigned, so find one without a lock and it's yours," Jimmy said while dismissively throwing his arm in the direction of the two walls lined with lockers. I nodded my head to show I'd heard what he said and made my way over to the far wall, my eyes set on the empty locker at the end. "Like I said, since Vicky and I live right upstairs, I'm here in the mornings at six and we generally lock up whenever the last person has left. You're free to come any time the lights are on. There's always someone around."
"Thanks."
"I'll let you get your stuff sorted."
I watched as Jimmy left the change room and made quick work of emptying my gym bag and organizing my things, securing my lock when done. I didn't bother taking the grand tour, it was a standard locker room with showers, urinals, toilets and benches in front of the lockers. The one surprise was the smell, or lack there of. Either someone cleaned in here religiously or there wasn't a large number of active boxers; my money was on the latter.
I made my way out to the gym floor with the intention to bid my goodbyes to Jimmy but was cornered by his girlfriend. Desperately, I looked around and saw Jimmy's office door was closed. He must be in a meeting, hopefully I could manage to brush off the frizzy, red-headed bimbo and go home. I wasn't allowed to do any actual training until the team's doc cleared me. I wasn't very hopeful for that to be happening any time soon; but one time, a guy managed to walk on water and I could hope for a lesser miracle, right?
"So Jasper, what do you think? Much more relaxed than that stuffy gym you were previously at, I'd bet?"
"I'll admit, Victoria, it's nice to have a locker to store my stuff rather than bringing my bag. Doesn't really travel that well on my bike, you know?"
"I told you before, I prefer Vicky," she corrected. I honestly hadn't been paying attention to her earlier when Jimmy introduced us before showing me around. Vicky was nattering on about how she'd been named after some deceased relative. I doubt she noticed my lack of attention as my eyes glazed over.
Lucky for me, the door to Jimmy's office opened. I looked past Vicky and into the mirrors behind the exercise machines. Jimmy was walking toward us and she was with him. Neither realized I was already watching them and she was too busy looking at my ass. I resisted the urge to smirk, even if she wouldn't see it. It was probably best to hold my cards close at this point. Past experience with female boxers held mixed results; I'd wait to see her reaction to my presence before deciding on what I could safely get away with without completely pissing her off.
"Jasper, I want you to meet someone," I pretended I hadn't already noticed their approach and waited a moment before turning around. "This is Bella, you saw her fight last night. Bella, this is Jasper Whitlock, he just joined the club."
I took a few moments to look her over; she was the perfect height to tuck under my arm. Her long wavy hair was pulled back and she wasn't wearing any makeup but the light flush of her cheeks reminded me of how she looked last night after her fight. I found it curious that she was wearing running shoes and those short shorts given the chill in the air this morning, there was no way she could keep warm in that get-up. Her hands were jammed so far into the pockets of her hooded sweater I was sure they'd pop out the bottom at any moment. But the tell-tale sign was the white cord belonging to a pair of earbuds hanging out of her pocket. Based on my quick observations, I was pretty certain she arrived here on foot.
I wondered if Jimmy figured this out yet. I remembered Carlisle telling her not to do any exercise after her concussion last night, but apparently she thought the rules didn't apply to her. She was such a contradiction- wearing both Nike shoes and an Addidas sweater at the same time, not to mention that angry scowl on her pretty face.
She was going to be an exciting challenge and she didn't even know it yet.
Unless of course she was with someone already. In the last month I'd spent researching alternative coaches and gyms, Jimmy was the one who managed to rally his team the best. It didn't slip my notice that while Bella was the lone female boxer, the guys seemed to hold her in high regard. I didn't doubt for a moment it was her fierce determination and enthusiasm for the sport that helped gain their respect. Anyone who paid enough attention could see how serious she was about boxing. Outside of the strong team unity my old club lacked, they all seemed to be friends. I wanted that and longed for the days back in San Antonio where I'd found a loyal friend in Garrett.
I nodded my head to myself, pleased that I had made the right decision to switch clubs. That's when I noticed her eyes, they were narrowed at me. It was a magnificent sight, usually the ladies swooned and tripped over themselves, but not Bella. It was refreshing. Not wanting to break our silence, I looked at Jimmy expectantly, waiting for him to say something. It seemed he had said all he wanted to say and elbowed Bella in forced encouragement. She defiantly rolled her eyes at him and I was captured by the color. From afar, they appeared brown but at this distance, I could see a ring of gold around the edge, I wondered if anyone else paid close enough attention to her to see it as well.
After another elbow from Jimmy, Bella begrudgingly said to my chest, "Hi, nice to meet you, I'm sure."
It was obvious she didn't appreciate my addition to the team. I responded with an equally sarcastic, "I'll bet." I wanted to say something more to smooth things over but was interrupted by Vicky's astute observational skills.
"Isabella, isn't that your car? I didn't see you drive up when you got here." Bella's dumbfounded look confirmed my earlier guess as to how she arrived at the gym.
"What the hell?" Bella said to herself quietly. But Jimmy didn't miss it, a look of understanding crossed his face as he reprimanded her for disobeying Carlisle's orders. I was too busy watching the guy who acted as Bella's coach during the fight last night as he walked through the door and easily dismissed Jimmy's worries. He was lying for Bella of course, but I couldn't understand his motives. Were they together? Or did he normally make it a habit to come to her rescue? And why did he call her Cricket, what a strange nickname. I didn't have time to worry myself with any more questions as he shoved a large hand out, introducing himself.
"Hey man, I'm Emmett McCarty."
And just like that, with an innate ability to diffuse a situation, I couldn't find it in me to dislike him. I shook his hand and I replied with my own name. Jimmy seemed satisfied with the exchange and excused himself to his office with Vicky quickly following.
Then we stood there looking at each other in awkward silence. I was searching for my own excuse to leave but Emmett was a step ahead of me as he smiled down at Bella.
"Ready to go?"
"Yeah, let's get out of here since I've essentially been banished for the week," Bella returned his smile as he gave her hair a gentle pull and tucked her under his arm. I watched as they waked toward the door and couldn't help but think they looked a little miss-matched; she practically disappeared next to his large frame.
"See ya around, man," Emmett called back as an afterthought. I nodded my head and followed behind. I was ready to leave anyway but they had beat me to the punch.
I called out to Jimmy that I'd see him later as I passed by his office door and smiled at the sun shining brightly as I stepped outside. It would be a great day to go for a drive. Emmett was standing next to my bike with excited eyes. I put my helmet on and quickly glanced at Bella in her car, she was in the passenger seat with a scowl on her face.
Emmett smiled at me and gestured to my bike, "nice bike you have here."
"Thanks, man."
"I'll bet the ladies claw at each other just to get a ride," he said, his smile getting impossibly larger. I laughed at his excitement.
"Sometimes. For others, it's a deterrent. But most like the rumble between their legs if they are lucky enough to get a ride," I chuckled. Emmett laughed and patted me on the shoulder.
"Well, I'd watch myself, Cricket has a weakness for bikes."
"Yeah, I saw her looking at it as Jimmy was finishing giving me the tour," I admitted as I pointed my thumb back toward the gym. "But she was still outside when he showed me into the dressing room. So I'm not sure how long she was looking at it."
A loud honk stopped Emmett's reply as he turned to look at her, then back to me rolling his eyes.
"She doesn't like to wait. Or maybe she's just annoyed that I'm making her take me out for breakfast. You wanna join us?"
"Nah, but thanks for the offer. She seems a little put out that I've joined the club anyways." Emmett nodded as a sympathetic look crossed his face.
"Give her time. She's a hard one to crack, but once you get past the tough exterior, she's loyal to a fault." He smiled as he held out his fist. I bumped mine against his, feeling a little strange about the gesture. Emmett's easy acceptance of me in a sport that was dominated by aggression was refreshing; it only reassured my decision to join, even if Bella's reception was less than lukewarm. I'd find a way to change her mind soon enough.
"See ya later!" he called as I climbed on the bike and started it up.
I wanted to over analyze what Emmett had said but left it sit at face value. Clearly they were close but I couldn't be certain how close. I wouldn't allow myself to jump to conclusions. There was only one other way to clear my mind besides training, and since I couldn't train until Carlisle allowed me, I'd go for a ride. A very long ride.
Well, was it all you thought it would be? Did he live up to your expectations?
Yes, Jasper was mysterous about his inability to train...that will be dealt with, or at least Bella will have some suspicions about it over at Golden Gloves in a chapter or two.
Cause I'm not above begging...Leave me some review loving!
