"What's with all the ruckus, Lea?" "You sound like a heard of Donphan!" Exclaimed Daisy, and my mother joined her in unnecessary giggles.
"Donphan don't even travel in herds, they're solitary." I muttered under my breath, glaring, as I grabbed a piece of bread, popped it in the toaster, and momentarily hunted for the jam, while I pretended not to hear the two women discussing my wardrobe options.
Not bothering to sit down, I grumbled goodbye to my mother, and shoved the door open, munching on my jam-smeared toast. Perhaps adventure could be sought outside?
How wrong I was. After idly wandering around the research town of Pallet, the sky began to darken, and before lunch, torrents of rain were pounding down on the roads, causing a flash flood. I rushed into my rain-streaked home, only to find Daisy still seated in the kitchen, Professor Oak fussing over his satchel, where two Pokeballs had fallen out, and Gary, glaring at the storm out side. Only when I slammed the door, was I noticed.
Mother sent me a brief glance before continuing to chat with Daisy, and Gary laughed out loud at my disheveled appearance. I could feel myself blushing a bright red, as I squeezed my eyes shut, trying to block it out. I stood in the doorway awkwardly, my long hair dripping,my eyes shut for a few minuets before I decided to go up to my room, thinking it better to shut myself in, rather than take Gary's belligerent attitude for the rest of the afternoon. I took a deep breath and made for the stairway, but only got halfway through my journey when I tripped on something and fell flat on my face. I think even my forehead was tomato red as I bent down to look at what I fell on. A Pokeball. I stares at the unscratched surface in awe. I'd seen them before sure, But I'd never actually held one. I wondered what could be inside. A Growlithe? A Beedrill? A Picachu?
The laughter of the people in the room brought me back to reality. I grit my teeth and stormed up the stairs. Out my window I could see the storm letting up. It only took me a second to decide. I grabbed my bright yellow messenger bag, stuffed some food inside, as well as the Pokedex Professor Oak had given me for my ninth birthday, to catalog the Pokemon around Pallet. I changed into a skirt, belt, tank top, and a hat.I clipped the Pokeball to my belt, and hastilly scribbled a note that explained why I was running away. I sighed, looked at my room for the last time, and opened the window. Just as I was about to leap, my door creaked open.
"Lea?" "Do you have Professor Oak's-" My mother stopped talking as she watched me jump. My wet hair fanned out behind me in large stringy clumps., the rain pounded on my face and head, and I landed with a SPLASH! as muddy water dappled the side of the house. I broke into a run, taking one last look at my old home, before I darted into the trees.
