It wasn't that Naruto liked being the fool; it was just the only way to get people's attention. He was so alone despite having so many people around him. At least when they laughed they listened. Like now in class, as his classmates giggled at his wrong answer, at least it meant they were paying attention.
Even as Sasuke answered the question correctly and turned slightly towards him to shot a snide comment at him, Naruto did not care. Of course he was angry at the Uchiha for the comment, but the comment meant the dark boy listened.
That's all Naruto ever really wanted.
At least they listened.
At least they laughed.
