-John POV-
How did I get here?
That is the question I ponder as I rest and recover my strength.
I think about how just a few hours earlier, I was helping my brother with homework.
"Jack, look, you misread the problem. You should be subtracting the matrices, not adding them."
"Oh, pff, that was dumb."
"Nah, I can't say I haven't done it too."
Since I was done helping him out with that problem, I went to go get food from the fridge, which was unfortunately all the way across the house. I heard my grandma calling my name and slid into the backyard through our glass sliding door. I didn't dislike my grandma, but I didn't want to be pulled into whatever 10 minute conversation she wanted to have just because I had gotten up to get food.
I thought about how I had been doing homework for the past couple of hours and thought Sure, I have my phone. I'll go on a walk, maybe I'll do some Duolingo. So I started walking around the block of my neighborhood when I saw an SUV squeal around the corner like the car that had destroyed a parked car in our neighborhood in a hit and run last year. This one, however, instead of heading toward another car, was blindly careening towards a small child who had just run after her ball in the street. I dove between her and the car and felt the worst pain I had ever felt in the whole of my easy life. The only thing that could even compare was getting hit in the nose with a baseball, only everywhere, and worse. As I died, I thought At least I'll go to heaven, "For greater love has no man than this: that he lay down his life for his friend."
And that was when I felt my perspective and body change and found myself bloody on the ground on hard cobble, with the injuries to my face mostly healed. People quickly parted around me and I saw a catperson with light brown hair and brown eyes jump out of a carriage toward me. He lay his hands on me before I fainted as a startled thought came into my head. Is that Felix?
I woke up feeling drained, but having had my wounds healed I wasn't dying anymore. But that allowed me to notice the slightly brighter light of everything around me. The window showed a street full of people, and because I could actually see the people avoiding the bloodstain being cleaned up, I saw that not all the people doing so were human, and remembered who healed me.
With that, I now approach the present, I sit in this bed thinking on how I got here, and the answer to me is clear.
I've been isekaied. I've been isekaied into the world of Re: Zero.
A/N: Thank you for reading the beginning of my first ever story.
A/N 2: Any quotes I (John) say in this story are from memory, as that is what I would have access to in the story. When I inevitably misremember a quote, it was intentionally not checked, so don't yell at me.
