Prologue
(Make sure to drop a review/comment, it helps a bunch!)
This is a completely revamped version of the Prologue because the previous one was absolute dog water.
Olivine city
"What a pain…"
Nick sighed, entering the ranger outpost right next to the PokeCenter.
Ever since his division was swapped to foreign defense, he was moved from the Jubilife station all the way to Olivine city in Johto.
He liked exploring the city and region but was admittedly sick and tired of it all.
The Ranger outpost was mostly empty..
"Hey, I just finished my mission, may I sign out for the day?" Nick asked the man sitting at the front of the ranger outpost.
"State your name and ID, please." The man spoke softly, Nick slid out his ID from his bag and read the card. "Nick Devolver, Age twenty-one, Ranger of Third division: foreign affairs."
"Thank you, your service is greatly appreciated." The man responded politely, "You may be dismissed."
Nick smiled, before going to a water fountain, grabbing one of the paper cups, and filling the cup with water.
He slowly lifted the paper cup, nearing the edges of his lips before sipping on the cup, a wave of refreshment flowing through his body.
He finally placed down the paper cup, which was empty of water, and threw it into the trash can beside the water fountain.
"Alright, time to go back to the Pokecenter-"
Suddenly, his ears were pierced by an erratic sound, Nick cursed under his breath as he hastily grabbed his PokeNav, his heart dropped as he saw a report.
"Warning: Steelix and Rhyperior rampage, Tier III event, rapid response needed."
"Crap…This is a newly initiated outpost, and I am the only one active! It could take hours for support to arrive!"
"Gotta go ! " Nick shouted to the man at the front as he instantly dashed out of the ranger outpost, "Skye, Sorry to bother you again, but I need your help!"
In a flash of brilliant scarlet light, Nick leaped off the ranger outpost in the air, as his Altaria materialized in the air, he felt his body impact against the soft cloud-like fur of the dragon.
The Altaria cooed at Nick in annoyance, "Bare with me bud, this one is an emergency." Nick said softly, patting the dragon's smooth fur.
Nick suddenly heard a loud thud, followed by another…
The direction came from a forest, Nick ordered Skye to accelerate towards the forest, and in mere seconds, he was already above the forest.
Nick scanned the forest for damage, and he saw trees violently torn down and scattered across the forest. He narrowed his eyes as he saw a Steelix towering above the large trees, swinging its large tail against a Rhyperior.
"Sven, Titanica, unleashed," Nick shouted as Lucario and Aggron materialized, the beast instantly recognizing the threat of the Rhyperior and Steelix.
"Titanica, attack!" Nick shouted, he had to latch onto Skye's fur as the Aggron roared, before charging at the Steelix, who swung its massive tail at the Aggron, who ducked down, before slamming his fist which glowed a piercing light and slammed into the Steelix's snake-like body.
"Sven, support Titanica!" Nick ordered, before unclipping two other Pokeballs from his belt, "Loki, Sui, provide more aid!"
A Weavile and Kingdra appeared on the battlefield, Sui the Kingdra instantly fired a jet stream of water, as Loki leaped unto the thick forest, his shadows could be seen as he dashed across the branches on the trees.
A surprise stone edge from the Rhyperior sent Titanica crashing against the trees, the Aggron groaning in pain as he was whacked in the face by an iron tail from the Steelix, "Stone edge!"
The Aggron roared again, firing a stone edge which crashed against the Steelix's snake body, she then diverted her attention against the Rhyperior, jumping into the air with his massive body and causing ripples in the ground.
"Sui, Hydro pump, Sven Focus blast and close combat!"
The Kingdra levitated into the air to avoid Aggron's earthquake, before firing a hydro pump which crashed against the Steelix, the Steelix roared in pain as Sven then fired a focus blast, leaping into the air…
"Behind you-"
Lucario was suddenly knocked out of the air as several boulders tumbled from the sky, burying Sven.
"Loki!"
The Weavile leaped out of the trees, as a stick of dark energy bursted in his hands from a swirl of ominous energy, and in a flash the boulders were all sliced into smooth pebbles, "Titanica, mega punch!"
The Steelix leaped at Loki, readying his iron tail behind, only to be slammed into the ground by a mega punch from Titanica.
The Rhyperior fired another stone edge, which was intercepted by a sudden focus blast from Sven, the Lucario was bruised and battered, but was still stoic and calm.
"Skye, dragon pulse!"
His Altaria reared her neck back, Nick could feel the pressure from the draconic orb forming above her mouth as in a massive blast of purple draconic energy, which exploded against the still recovering Steelix.
The Steelix roared in pain, before slamming Aggron against another tree, who groaned in pain, before slamming her fist into the Steelix, and then firing a stone edge which crushed the Steelix against the tree.
"Hydro pump!"
The Rhyperior suddenly leaped from the smoke, firing a stone edge which struck Sui and sent him hurling against a tree, "Loki, Ice Punch!"
The Weavile leaped from the trees, his arms curled into a fist that was half-frozen, before slamming it into the surprised Rhyperior, who flinched in pain as ice spread across his body.
The Rhyperior screamed in pain, before breaking free from the ice and rearing his massive fist back, the Weavile leaped into the air, dodging the attack.
Suddenly, an ear-piercing roar came from the Steelix, who swung his iron tail in a 360 motion, striking the Rhyperior and Aggron, "Superpower!"
Aggron glowed a bright orange aura, as the Steelix slammed into Aggron, but the massive beast slammed Steelix into the ground with a crushing force, ripples shaking the earth and trees collapsed from the pressure.
The Rhyperior was barely standing from the pressure, towering over Loki as it fired furious strikes, rearing its massive arm over and slamming the ground. Loki leaping into the air and firing a wave of icy wind, which causes the Rhyperior to repel backwards in pain.
The Steelix and Rhyperior collapsed upon the ground, unconscious.
Sui the Hydra fired a hydro pump just to make sure, the jet stream of water slamming into the Steelix, he then fired a dragon pulse against the Rhyperior, which exploded in a wave of purple draconic energy.
Nick slowly lowered Skye over the ground, before jumping off.
"Great job y'all, but there is still a lot more to go-"
A roar pierced Nick's ears, as he reached for them, he recognized the roar from a mountainscape a few kilometers away.
"Move out!" Nick ordered, before hopping back on Skye, who flew out of the thick forests and dashed towards the mountain region…
Nick's eyes widened as he saw a mega Steelix wreak havoc, swinging its massive tail, as surrounding, it littered several Rhyperiors, Steelix, and Onix.
"What the…"
Not a single scratch could be seen on the Mega Steelix's crystal clear skin, Mega Evolutions could be rarely seen in the wild, they could only be activated in the wild if a Pokemon naturally strong enough interacted with a mega stone, wild mega evolutions didn't even exist until the mega stones were invented. This means some bastard left a Steelixite in the wild and this unreasonably powerful Steelix interacted with it.
" Tch, Mega Evolution completely changes the hormones of a Pokemon, it'll be nigh-impossible to calm this Steelix down…"
"Sven, Focus blast!" Nick ordered, Lucario leaped out into the air, as the rest of his Pokemon saw this as a signal to start attacking.
Loki dashed through the trees, using night slash to distract the Steelix, who roared before slamming the ground with his tail, as a massive pile of boulders crashed down against Loki, who easily leaped out of the way, before firing a ice beam which pierced through the Steelix's thick shell, the iron snake was then slammed against one of the mountains by a focus blast from Sven, the sphere of energy exploding, the Steelix couldn't catch a break as Sui fired a hydro pump, the pressure crushing his thick scales.
The Slow Aggron finally arrived, screaming defiantly before charging at the Steelix, "Focus punch!"
The Aggron reared his fist back, as the Steelix suddenly leaped from the smoke, the spiraling crescent of gemstones beaming with powers as they collided with the Aggron, who repelled backwards, groaning in pain.
The Steelix was then barraged by close combat from Sven, whose flurry of punches continuously slammed into the Steelix, the iron snake screamed in pain, before rearing its tail and swinging it at the Lucario, who shielded himself with a bright green shield, which was the move protect.
Nick approached closer to the battlefield, he had to be able to properly command his Pokemon, and he also needed to be within a certain distance of his Pokemon to…
Mega Evolve.
"Sven…or Titanica?"
Titanica was significantly weakened from the previous clobber with Steelix, so the most logical option was Sven.
"Mega evolution…activate," Nick muttered, as Skye accelerated towards the battlefield, Sven firing an aura sphere, being supported by Titanica and Sui, Nick pressed on his wristband, which suddenly glowed a piercing, yellow light.
Sven the Lucario was engulfed in the piercing yellow light, screaming in pain as in an explosion of the yellow light, his entire body radiated an orange aura, his eyes a dark red, his yellow puffy tail, and black bangs floating in the wind, as it instantly leaped at the Steelix, firing a focus blast the size of several trees, which exploded in collision against the mega Steelix, who shielded itself with a shield of gemstones.
The Mega Steelix thrashed in pain, screaming as it crashed its large body against the mountains, firing an array of attacks, which Sven easily deflects, as Tita nica the Aggron slams her body against the Steelix, before pummelling it with several strikes.
The Steelix screamed again, before knocking Titanica over, and crushing the Aggron with its snake-like body and slamming its chest with a swing of its tail…
Nick orders Skye to get closer into the battlefield, his eyes widened as he saw Loki leap through the destroyed trees, towards the Steelix.
"Loki! Halt-"
The Weavile fired an ice beam to gather the Steelix's attention, Sui the Hydra noticed Loki and fired a hydro pump to further distract the Steelix, as Aggron stumbled backwards in pain from the previous clash.
Nick continued to approach the battlefield, his Pokemon needed his orders and command, it was his job to guide them into victory and protect the safety of Olivine, and to do that he needed to put himself at risk.
He cursed as the wind pressure intensified as he approached the battlefield, "Loki, Move out of the way!"
The Weavile came to a stop at the command, "Sui, Hydro Cannon!"
Hydra Cannon is the peak of all water-type moves, For Sui The Kingdra, this move signified he was at his peak.
The Jet stream of water exploded against contact with Steelix, the pressure causing the Iron Snake to scream in pain, As Sven, The Lucario fired a focus blast, which spiraled and exploded against the Steelix again, "Now, Loki, Spectre!"
Spectre- A move that Nick created himself, it was a wild mix between Loki's unique usage of dark-type energy and double team, and when the two combine together, it allows Loki to completely overwhelm his enemies with a flurry of rapid attacks, and Loki kept the STeelix on his tail, dodging and weaving the violent swings from the Steelix, as Aggron now recovered, and slammed his quaking fist onto the Steelix, which screamed and thrashed in violent spasms.
Sven continued to snipe the Steelix with focus blasts from afar, as the Mega Steelix's gemstones spun repeatedly, as Loki continued to assault it with attacks from the mirror images.
Nick's eyes widened, "Loki, Get down-"
His heart sank as the gem stones were suddenly hurled at all of the mirror images, before exploding in a blinding flash…
"Sui, detect the Steelix with your senses and fire a Blizzard!"
The Kingdra fired a Blizzard, engulfing the smoke as Loki leaped out, screams of pain could be heard from the Mega Steelix, and Nick's entire mind spinned in place, desperately thinking of a way to solve everything-
His heart squeezed against his body, as he screamed out for Loki, a massive Iron tail suddenly reached out from the thick, cold winds…
Explosions from Sven's desperate focus blast, the Lucario's eyes widening as Titanica charged at the Steelix, Sui The Kingdra charging a dragon pulse…
Skye the Altaria squawked, violently flapping its wings as Nick was forced to latch onto her even harder, Loki The Weavile turned around mid-air…
Thud!
The Iron Snake slammed its tail down, the pressure rippling through the clouds, Nick gasped for air, mouth opening, throat shutting tight…

Nick's mind raced, spiraling over and over in circles…
And there was only one conclusion he could firmly draw…
"Continue with the operation!"
"Titanica!" Nick shouted, and in a desperate attempt to salvage a victory against this foul beast….
He needed Titanica to mega evolve.
He cursed under his breath, while it is theoretically possible to mega evolve two Pokemon at the same time, the effects for the trainer would be devastating. Mega Evolution at its core is using the trainer's inner "type energy" and using it to fuel and merge with the Pokemon's "type energy" to even further strengthen their power and capabilities…
Mega evolving one Pokemon is already exhausting after a certain period of time, but mega evolving two Pokemon at the same time quickly exhausts the "Type energy" fuel in a Human body, as Humans "Type energy" reserves are lackluster compared to Pokemon's( it's why there aren't any humans busting out flamethrowers, only the occasional psychic or other typed person, but that's a discussion for another day…)
But, Nick had just lost one Pokemon, and he was more than willing to risk crippling himself and retiring as a trainer for life rather than living with even more of his Pokemon death…
At least that's what he thinks.
"Well, If I still am alive after this incident, I can at least tell my children that I defeated a freakishly strong mega Steelix…" Nick thought to himself, smiling at the prospect as he saw Titanica charge at the Steelix, he unclipped Loki's Pokeball…
His smile faded, and his brown eyes darkened…
"Mega evolve…"Nick whispered as he replaced the Mega Stone on his bracelet with Titanica's mega stone, "The sorrow of the night shall evolve into the gratitude of the sky!"
"Niesel…Seth…Len…"
"You all would kill me if I suggested this, wouldn't you? " Nick smiled softly at the thought, his ranger mates…his buddies…
His first friends, the ones that carried him from the depths of a darkness so deep…
The orange light engulfed him once again, his entire body cracking under the pressure, "With this decision, I shall leave everything behind me."
"As a Ranger…"
"Lord Arceus, if I do die here, mercy would be kinda cool."
"Titanica, Unleash your fury!" Nick shouted, as he suddenly felt a spike of pain, latching onto Skye The Altaria even harder, He grinned as he saw his Aggron roar, growing bigger, as iron spikes protruded from the white metal plates on his forearms, and in an explosion of blinding white light, Titanica could be seen in her full glory.
Her previous gray plates were mostly covered by shining white plates, and she grew significantly in size, now towering above the Mega Steelix, as it instantly leaped for a mega punch, her fist glowing a piercing white light as it slammed against the Steelix's head, the impact causing the Mega Steelix to crash backward in pain.
"Tch, this damn Steelix…Even with the boost from Mega Evolution Titanica can't last long under these conditions! For that fucking Steelix to withstand such extreme attacks and still be fighting relentlessly in its attacks…it must be master level at least…"
No, as much as Nick wants to say otherwise to be "humble", at his current stage of training, despite only having six gym badges with his current experience and capabilities he was confident that he could easily gain his seventh and final gym badge. He was confident that he could at least give a half-decent fight against gym leaders going all-out…
So this Mega Steelix likely isn't just master level, which is the level granted to gym leaders and conference winners, this Mega Steelix is at the bare minimum elite four-level .
"Titanica, giga impact!" Nick hollered, his throat was hoarse from the constant screaming, and he had no other way at this distance to command his Pokemon…
A wave of pain rushed through his body, he gasped for air as he felt the familiar sensation rushing through him, tight pain gathering in his chest.
"Fuck…this isn't the time to remember those !"
"Sui….Sven…ALL OUT SUPPORT!" Nick barked, as another wave of pain continued to assault him, his vision worsened, as his head spun in circles…
Titanica slammed another attack into the Steelix, which retaliated with an iron tail which clashed with the iron plates of the Aggron, Nick gasping for air as his eyes widened…
In his history of being with Titanica…
Her plates were being destroyed .
The plates crushed under the pressure of the Iron tail, as Aggron howled in pain, gritting his sharp teeth as he slammed a fist into the Steelix's jaw…
The Steelix's sharp teeth suddenly engulfed in flames, before leaping at Titanica, but was then suddenly assaulted by a massive hydro cannon from Sui, The Kingdra glaring at the Steelix, as it levitated in front of it, stopping its teeth from even dare interacting with Titanica as the Steelix was pushed back by the Hydro cannon, only to be assaulted by a barrage of aura spheres from Sven.
Lucario gasped for air, his breathing heavy as he fired another massive focus blast, the attack exploding against the Steelix, which gritted its teeth, and lunged at Titanica, swinging its massive tail, which once again met Aggron's iron fist.
Nick felt a pang of pride mixed in with the overwhelming pain, as his Aggron held her own against an elite-level Mega Steelix, even if she was being crushed by the pressure of the sheer attack…
Even if her entire body was screaming in pain and she was likely nearly dead, the conviction in her fiery eyes as she stood in front of the Mega Steelix, like an iron wall nearly about to crack against a missile…
And, as the Mega Steelix promptly ignored the various different attacks from Sven and Sui, the Steelix went for one crushing iron tail, the attack slammed against the Aggron's firm arms, and the Aggron held her place, as the Steelix intensified his attack, Titanica's entire body was forced backward…
Nick knew what was going to happen, his Aggron was going to die…
His eyes started to water, these were his Pokemon…
He wiped them away, he had a priority as a ranger, and his Pokemon alongside him would be more than willing to die for it.
"It's only been six minutes…reinforcements aren't even close…"
"Titanica, Full offense! Giga impact!"
Titanica suddenly ripped her arms away, the Steelix's eyes widened as a well timed focus blast caused the iron snake to stumble in pain, Titanica reared her bloody arm, as she was engulfed in a bright piercing light, before charging at the Steelix who reared his tail back before slamming it against the Giga Impact from Titanica.
The two beasts roared, as in a brilliant explosion…
Nick's heart dropped, he saw it coming…
But it still hurt, as Aggron the Titanica fell to the ground, blood sputtering from its white scales.
"Sui! Sven! Now, all out offense!"
Sui The Kingdra will now be the main show, Sven is too exhausted and tired to be able to do anything but try to deal as much damage as possible.
Nick attempted to return Titanica, but as a part of him expected…
Nothing.
He wasn't able to properly guide his Pokemon, if he could just be out there, guiding his Pokemon without any risk…
Sui The Kingdra fired an large Hydro cannon, the attack piercing the Steelix's now frail scales from the beating it took from Titanica, as the Steelix screamed in pain, furiously swinging its tail, and hurling massive boulders, which Sui easily dodges.
Sven The Lucario fires a focus blast from the thick trees and the mountainside, expertly jumping through the rough terrain to dodge attacks and squeeze out every single ounce of damage he could muster.
However, at the rate it was going-
"Speak of the devil…"Nick cursed, his body was still in pain from the after effects of mega evolving two, even if it's only one now, he could barely see the concise details of the battlefield…
But what he could see was the Steelix hurling his tail, slapping Kingdra out of the air, and into the mountainside.
The Kingdra instantly flew out, dodging another violent slam from the Mega Steelix, "This is bad…."
"Skye, we need to intervene more, Ice beam!" Nick shouted, Skye The Altaria seemed to understand, as she fired a ray of solid ice, the attack caused an area of Steelix to be frozen, causing it to scream in pain as Sui The Kingdra took the opportunity to fire another hydro pump, and Sven leaped deep into the air, before firing a focus blast, which exploded and caused smoke and dust to gather in the air.
"Again!"
Skye continued to fire ice beams…
And the process repeated, over…and…over…
Sui was hit by an iron tail several times, as Sven was reaching his breaking point, his focus blasts grew weaker…
Until, in one desperate attempt from the Steelix…
It fired a stone edge.
The Stone pillars hurled at Nick, and in mere seconds…
Nick's thoughts raced in tracks, "Skye can dodge the attack…she could dodge it easily…"
"But only at her top speeds, there is no way she can dodge it with me on."
At that moment, Nick knew what needed to be done.
Skye The Altaria dashed, but the stones slowly approached…
And Nick hurled himself to the ground, the Altaria didn't even notice, as she narrowly managed to squeeze from the stone pillars. "Don't come after me!"
His life flashed before his very eyes, he turned around as he saw blasts and rays, and one final scream of triumph…Sui was launched into the sky, bleeding from his scales as he fired one last Hydro cannon, as he saw Sven leap at the Steelix, slamming the Steelix in with close combat, Skye fired a barrage of flamethrowers and ice beam…
He smiled softly, as finally, he saw the Mega Steelix crash toward the floor.
His mind drifted, as he closed his eyes…
"Everything has been built up to this moment…"
"My final moments…"
"My friends…"
"Lord Arceus, I used to think…very early on, when I was still very young, that this life was the epitome of hell, it seems now that I have gotten past teen hormones…it's pretty nice, huh?"
"Anyways, if Pokemon has heaven, I would kinda wanna be with Loki and Titanica right now, give that big ol' teddy bear a nice tap on the bank…"
"Right? I mean, I deserve at least that much…"
"I was always a spiraling mess…wait, I did remember my ranger mates calling me… 'the spiral'. that kinda has a nice ring…oh well."
Nick frowned, as he felt a thud and a wave of one, last rushing pain.
"Ha-ha…I was being naive…"
"This life couldn't have been any worse."
