Chapter 1
What does it mean to be a hunter? The constant question that had always ran through my thick skull. But what I do know now, is that to survive you have two choices you are either the hunter or the hunted. Does it make sense…depends on the circumstance, but for all the animals and creatures in the wild those are the only chooses that they must make.
As the sun rose, I couldn't help but grown as I opened my sliver eyes, revealing a deep blue iris. Looking up I could see the sun, barley piercing the mountain tops. The lakes glistening from the reflecting light. You could see a whole herds of different herbivores down by the lake to get their morning drink before grazing in the long grass.
I soon got up and stretched out my dark, silver body and wings before walking out without disturbing anyone. After that, I started to make my way out of the cave to go out hunting.
Now at this point, you're probably wondering where or how I got to this point. Or why are we here and the beginning of the story. We'll let then, let's not waste anyone's time and get started with a quick introduction. My name is Kaleb Silverwing, and I am…
Rathalos (Title surrounded by a mixture of blue and yellow flames)

My story starts years ago, in my home village a few miles down from the mountains. It may not look much but believe me every day is a busy day. Whether it be farming, cooking meals for everyone, getting the market all set up to make a profit. But not are as busy as the Hunters, for many people who've join are basically hero's of the village. With armor and weapons crafted by the greatest blacksmith in the village.
With every hunter comes a story of there greatest adventure, along with the details of their greatest hunts. Now it's very easy to assume that all the Hunters do is hunt everything down until the treat is gone. That maybe true to some, but our village has a strike code to follow. Only hunt monsters within reason to sum it up. Basically, don't hunt an Anjanath unless it poses a serious treat to our trade route or our village.
However, I have a different code and that is to either catch and relocate the creature or if the guild needs one to study. I guess I have to explain a bit about myself, don't I? Very well, the truth is I am Hunter as well, however I generally view myself as a trapper. My family have been known throughout history of our greatest accomplishments with trapping monsters and finding a safe solution to avoid any unnecessary deaths for both the animals and us humans. Unfortunately, there are those who think we're nothing more than cowards, and with both of my parents dead. I, Kalbe Silverwings am what remains of the family. And every hunter loves to keep reminding me of it, whether it be them feeling bad which is extraordinarily little, or what is the most common thing, mocked like hell. Still though I press forward and let it bother me…much.
I soon arrived from my quest, all banged up with bruises on both my legs and arms, but still alive. The type of equipment that I am wearing is your everyday, basic armor nothing to fancy. I am not into all those heavy, fancy, make myself look noticeable. Nah, I am quite the lame one, with the basic leather shirt with one shoulder pauldron on my right shoulder, kneecaps that were stander. The only thing that is not standard is my Golden Bow. This baby was customed made by my father himself after a wild encounter with a Gold Rathian. Now that would be something I would love to see.
I soon put down my quest sheet down on the table in front of the guild master. He soon takes it and see that its been sighed by the owner who asked for it be posted.
"Next time, please make sure that they have all the info?", was all I asked while the guild gathers the money that is owned from the question.
The Guild Master laughs a bit, "Now, where's the fun in that, I thought it would be clear as day. "Devil Horned Wyvern Crises"
I couldn't help but shrugged a bit and answered, "Yeah, well all they said was a pair of Diablos were causing havoc, and they failed to mention that one of them was in heat."
"Sounds like you had your hands full.", responded the Guild Master as he puts a bag of coins and states with pride, "There you are 15000pz."
Every hunter soon stopped what they were doing to look at me, which in response I took the bag and gave about half of it back.
A chuckle came out of my voice before saying, "Beginners luck." And started heading back to my house.
My home has been always where we've always been in family tradition, up by the market then turn left until you see a symbol of a Rathian on the sign. I couldn't help but smile a bit before deciding to check out the mess hall. There might be someone that is willing to want to talk to me.
Although, most of the time I'm always hearing some of the hunters shouting, "Hey looky hear boys, it's the Monster Sympathizer.", or something more childish like, "If you like them so much why don't you marry them." you know the usual stuff. While most of it bothers me a bit, I've learned to accept that it is who I am. I'm going to get bullied because of this, but that is all right with me.
It doesn't take me long to make it towards the door and after one deep breath, I open the doors and entered the Mess Hall. Not surprisingly it was packed with other hunters, but that's usually the case on an early morning or evening. A bit of nervousness did travel up my spine, knowing that someone is going to say something. But I would always remember to tell myself to keep moving forward and not cause any problems.
I soon grabbed something to eat and tried to find somewhere to sit. This has always been the hardest thing, and its not that no one doesn't want me to sit by them. Other than Feras who for some reason considers me to be his rival. To me, its an excuse for him to make my life as miserable as possible. Sometimes he would purposely join the same quest as I do, just so that he could make it harder for me to my job.
After searching for a good ten minutes, I finally found somewhere to sit down, and began to eat my favorite meal. The smell of the food was enough to make my stomach growl a bit.
I couldn't help but laugh a bit and response, "Don't worry stomach, after this well be stuff up so much that all we will do is head home and rest for the day."
Unfortunately, I didn't realize who I was sitting behind, until I heard a familiar voice, "Well, if it isn't our Monstie Lover boy."
Closing my eyes with a bit of grown, I swallowed my food that was in my mouth and response, "What do you want Feras?"
He soon sat next to me, and all I keep telling myself to pretend that he wasn't there at all. Which was a lot harder than it sounds. Knowing him, he will keep bugging you until he gets your attention. Or he'll get one of his "Hunter Buddies" and drag you to him.
Feras answered, "Well, I was wondering how a man does, like you, always must do things the hard way. It's not right to see a man like you to waste your talents on what you call it…save the monsters."
A bit of a growl escaped my mouth but kept my cool and just looked at him and answered, "Don't you have anything better to do than, got out Night Hunting, annoying other hunters about how your better than anyone here."
"Kalbe, Kalbe…"
Hearing that I calmly corrected him, "Kaleb, please it's just Kaleb."
"Whatever," was his response before continuing, "I would love to, but I soon saw you and all I want to do is to understand why of all hunters don't kill the beast when you have the chance."
I answered with a bit of frustration and calm but before I could say anything, Feras says, "Oh let me guess, you're too soft."
"No." was my answer and started to get up but Feras grabs me in the arm and then ask, "You don't have the guts to look at the beast in the eye and finish it."
"Ok, you want to know fine. It's not because I'm soft, or don't have the guts. It's the fact that I'm the only one who's the best at trapping them and relocating to a different area where they can't be a threat to anyone.", was my response as I pulled my arm out of Feras grip.
Without a second thought, I start moving away from Feras so I can go back to my bunker. That is until a few of his friends stands in front of me, and the next thing I know, Feras grabs me again and punches me right on the side of my head causing me to stumble. It didn't take me long to get up, and in no time Feras tries to hit me again. Only this time, some else grabs him and throws him down in the table causing it to break.
Feras opens his eyes and soon sees that it was the Commander daughter himself, Alicia Golteron. She must have just arrived from a hunt. I can tell because of her Gold Rathian armor was a bit beaten up. How the hell did she get that, well its more of a family emblem then a full-on armor set. Seeing that they would use other monster parts to make it look as authentic as possible.
"Let me make this clear to you Feras, if you ever lay a hand on my friend again. I will make sure you lose your hunting license, only this time for good. Do I make myself clear?", growled Alicia before getting a bit of a wheezing sound out of him.
Oh, yeah, I forgot to mention, she is my one and only friend here in the village. While there are a lot of nice people here, Alicia has always been by my side since my parents died of a mysterious Frenzy Virus. She's like the sister or wife that anyone would love to have.
"Come on Kaleb." Was all she said before I shake my head and the two of use made our way to our bunkers.
We soon made it home, and she asked me to sit down so she can get a potion ready for me to drink. I couldn't help but stare at her a bit, my heart pounded a bit, but I knew how to keep myself in check. I've had way too many close calls of her figuring out that I am in love with her, but at the same time I have this strange felling that she already knows, and just goes with it until I'm ready to propose to her.
"He you go Kaleb.", said Alicia as she finishes up crafting the potion.
"Thanks Alicia," was all I said before drinking the potion.
Alicia couldn't help but ask, "Why does Feras hate you that much, and why you put up with it. You know one of these days you will have to stand up for yourself."
I finished drinking the potion and the bruise on my face was completely gone and I answered, "Maybe it's the fact that he can't stand that I can do something better than him, I don't know? And I've been standing up to him."
"You're face says otherwise.", teased Alicia with a bit of a laugh coming out of my mouth.
"Oh ha, ha, at least he respects you, since well you are the Guild masters daughter. I couldn't even imagine how much trouble he would be if that man puts his hands on you.", was my response.
We continue to talk for a bet before getting ready for us to clean ourselves. Once we were done, we headed to our rooms and rested for the night.
And that is a wrap for chapter one, I want to give Killer Streak a special thanks for giving me the opertunity to do this. Its been along time since I've done a fanfic so my grammer is a bit off. Anyways hope you guys enjoy the first chapter of the remake. If you still like the original more, I get it. If you have any open seggestions or have any questions, let me know.
Once again Thanks Killer Streak for giving me permission, I hope I can live up to the task.
