AN: Hey everyone. Just thought I'd write another body swap story just for fun. Although, I am doing something a little different as this one doesn't involve the Koopalings. So…yay for experimentation?

Well, anyway, I hope you enjoy this. This is the first chapter I am going to publish in December so…yeah.

Chapter 1 Off to a Bad Start

Luigi yawned and stretched his arms up to the ceiling. Light flew in from his window and pelted his eyes with an early dose of temporary blindness. While Luigi recovered from the brightness, a bird chirped just outside the window. Its voice, extra sweet and melodic, tickled Luigi's eardrums in a playful manner. Needless to say, this was probably going to be a beautiful day. Birds, Toads, Goombas, Koopa, and plumbers alike were probably going to enjoy themselves and make the most out of the perfect weather.

The green-clad plumber smiled. Pushing his sheets back, he put on his bunny slippers and made his way downstairs. The alluring scent of cinnamon encrusted french toast wafted into the stairwell, giving Luigi's nostrils a special treat. A smile crept onto his face. Mario was always the best at making french toast. Every once in a blue moon, when the Mushroom Kingdom's hero decided that the day just wasn't the day for pasta, his culinary skills shined so bright that his dishes could satisfy just about everyone.

The smile bluntly refusing to fall from his face, Luigi made his way into the kitchen. The sight of Mario standing over the stove was there to greet him. Already donning his traditional plumber uniform and hat, with a neatly combed mustache and a clean as crystal face, Luigi's older brother was a sight to see. He already felt safer, like he could conquer the world.

"Buongiorno, fratello," Mario said in the brothers' native tongue.

"Buongiorno anche a te," Luigi responded. He took his seat at the table, already all set to stuff his face. When Mario laid the french toast on his plate, glimmering gold with steam seductively rising from the browning skin, the younger Mario brother's mouth watered like crazy.

"Had a good sleep?" Mario asked as he too sat down in front of his own plate.

Luigi nodded. "Yep." He crammed a piece of the toast into his mouth. Sweet flavors tossed around inside, almost like they were participating in a grand sport to decide which one of them would be the one to give Luigi the best possible start to his morning. He washed them down with a glass of orange juice, the lifeblood that practically flowed through his veins.

"So," Mario said after Luigi had taken ten more glorious bites. "Are you ready for today?"

Luigi nearly jumped out of his chair right then and there. "Of course I am!" He laughed. "I've been looking forward to our outing for the better part of the last week!"

"That's good to hear," Mario said as his eyes twinkled. He took another bite of breakfast. "I already knew people liked to be in my presence, but to have my brother be among that group?" He chuckled. "It's almost like I'm some sort of celebrity or something."

Luigi smirked. "You and your modesty, Mario." He was tempted to get up out of the chair and give his older brother a noogie, but ultimately thought against it. Instead, he sent his brother a sly, sideways look. "You're almost humble enough to be considered a perfect human."

Mario grinned. "Perfect human. I like the sound of that." He took the last bite of his syrupy breakfast. "I think that the princess will agree with that assessment," he said as he got up and put his plate in the sink.

Luigi took his second to last sip of orange juice. "You two. The love that should not not be, the 'what if' that will never be answered." He leaned against the table as Mario began scrubbing the dishes under the running water. "Why don't you ask her out?"

Even though Luigi couldn't see it, he knew Mario's face turned red at that question. "Um…I will." He chuckled after clearing his throat. "I just need to find the right time."

"HA!" Luigi shook his head. "Save the perfect time for when you propose to her. The question of a first date can be dropped at pretty much any moment!"

Mario turned around. "That's something you learned from asking out Daisy, huh Weege?"

Silence. Luigi's insides squirmed. He poked at the last two bites of french toast, refusing to look his brother in the eye.

Mario laughed. "Oh! That's right; silly me! You haven't asked her out!"

"But I will!" Luigi protested. He put the last bite into his mouth and went over to the sink. "I have it all planned out."

"Uh, I'm sorry; 'planned out?' Whatever happened to 'save the perfect time for when you propose to her?'"

Luigi sighed. "Okay, okay, maybe it isn't that easy." He rubbed his shoulder. "But it should be a lot simpler. We shouldn't have to get in our own heads about what can go wrong, who can cause it to go wrong, how people will respond to it going wrong…you know, all the fun-filled questions that keep you up at night."

Mario snickered. "I couldn't agree more." He finished rinsing Luigi's plate and placed it on the drying rack along with his plate. "But you know, if I were you, I wouldn't worry about it too much. Daisy likes you. It's evident in pretty much every conversation the two of you have."

"And the same can be said about you and Peach." He gave his brother a look that was half joking, half serious. "You know, here's what I would do if I were you. As soon as we're done with our little bros day out, you go right over to her castle and ask her out on a date."

Mario hesitated. "I don't know if I'm THAT ready." He scratched the back of his head. "I mean, what angle should I approach her at? Where should I take her?"

"Take her anywhere?" Luigi placed his hands on his hips. "Take her to Goomburger and get her a happy meal."

Mario sent him a raised eyebrow. "A happy meal? Weege, she's a princess, not a five year old." He shook his head. "And I couldn't take her to a Goomburger. I need to take her someplace special. Someplace expensive, something romantic."

Luigi sniffed. "And here married couples are finding romance without having to blow through their savings."

Mario sharply exhaled. "Like you would have the gall to take Daisy to a Goomburger."

Luigi thought about this. Would he take Daisy to a Goomburger on a first date? Possibly. The food there was really good. Sure, it was cheap, mass-produced, and loaded to overflowing with excess calories and saturated fats, but Luigi didn't care about that. Or at least, on a normal day. When he was trying to watch his weight after the holidays, however Goomburger was the place he avoided like the Blorbs.

"Maybe I would, maybe I wouldn't," he said with a shrug. He turned toward the stairwell. "Now, excuse me while I go get dressed."

Five minutes later, Luigi came down with a freshly groomed mustache, a clean shirt and overalls on, and his signature green hat planted firmly on his head. Mario grinned at him, the expression mischievous and playful.

"Looks like you're ready for a day on the town."

"You bet!" Luigi grabbed hold of his overalls. "The reason I chose the cleanest overalls I own is because I am gonna get them dirty!" He walked over to his brother. "I hope you're bringing your paintbrush out for our day on the town Mario, cause we are gonna paint it!"

Mario chuckled. "And I hope you bring your poltergust, Luigi. If we're lucky, we're gonna see boos when we go into the forest!"

Luigi froze. Boos? As in the scary, mischievous little devils that haunted every darkly lit place, including his new mansion? Trembles and shivers ran down Luigi's arms. He opened his mouth, about to make some sort of a spooked out comment, when Mario burst into laughter.

"Just kidding!" He patted his brother on the shoulder. "We can save ghost hunts for tomorrow."

Luigi let out a breath of relief. "Oh, good." His sense of alertness perked right back up. "Wait, tomorrow? I'm not looking for boos tomorrow! I want to be able to sleep tonight!"

Mario giggled. "How will you be able to sleep when a boohemoth is gonna be waiting to devour you?"

Luigi nearly shrieked. Oh Mama Mia, boohemoths were even worse than boos! At least boos weren't the size of bulldozers and therefore didn't pose the threat of being able to eat you while you slept!

"I hate you." Luigi elbowed his brother in the arm. "I hate you so much!"

"Which means all is right with the world once again." Mario grinned and made his way to the door. "Come on bro, let's a…"

Before Mario could finish his signature catchphrase, his phone in his back pocket chimed. Curious, Mario took it out and looked at the message. He looked back at Luigi before chuckling nervously. "Uhh…on second thought, we might have to hold off our day out for another time."

"What?" Luigi's heart sank. "Why?"

"Uh…" Mario cleared his throat and showed Luigi the text. "The princess wants me to give a speech at the unveiling of the new store today."

"What?" Luigi blinked. A new store was being unveiled? Now of all days? "What kind of store is this; a general store?"

"Actually," Mario said once the Princess sent him another text. "Peachy says its a new shopping mall. It's going up in Shroomberg."

Luigi's heart sank. "You've gotta be kidding me." He put his head in his hands. "The one day where we were gonna have some bro bonding time!"

"I know." Mario sent him a sheepish smile. "But hey, a plumbers gotta do what a plumbers gotta do." He made his way over to the door.

Luigi followed him, a new idea sprouting in his head. "Well, can I at least come with you in order to provide support…"

His voice trailed off when his older brother opened the door. Toadette stood right in front of them, her hands on her hips and her face mad.

"Finally! After I sent you guys a billion texts!"

Mario blinked. "What texts?"

"I didn't get any texts," Luigi said.

Toadette blinked. "Really?" She pulled out her phone. "Then who's the number I've been texting for the past two days?"

"Uh…I don't know," Luigi said with a shrug. "It's possible you got the wrong number"

"Oh really?" Toadette shook her head. "Well, that goes to show that you can never put trust into modern technology." She looked concerned. "Man, I hope whoever got my texts isn't going to retaliate…" Her phone chimed. "Never mind; they're mad as a hornet." She put her phone back in her pocket. "Dang it!"

Mario prompted her to look back at him. "Never mind that; why are you here, Toadette?"

"My toilet!" the little mushroom girl practically yelled. "It's been broken for the past three days!"

Luigi blinked. "So?"

Toadette raised an eyebrow. "So…you two are plumbers, aren't you? Why don't you fix it?"

Luigi looked into Mario's eyes. A broken toilet? Oh come on; first the unveiling of the new shopping mall, now a broken toilet? What's next; was Bowser going to kidnap Peach and take her to the moon?

Actually, on second thought, it probably wasn't the best idea to say that out loud. Didn't want to jinx it, after all.

"Well?" Toadette asked. "Are you going to help me, or what?"

Luigi let out a long, frustrated sigh. "I'll do it…" His shoulders slumped. "Just let me go get my tools…"

He made his way back up the stairs, with Mario following right behind him. Once he fetched his plunger and his wrench from the storage closet, Mario chuckled sheepishly and patted Luigi on the shoulder.

"I'm sorry…"

"No you're not," Luigi said as he cast him a glare. "You're going to go have fun with the princess while I'm stuck doing a job that is literally crappy. You're not sorry at all!"

Mario smirked. "Huh. Good point." He adjusted his hat. "Well, good luck with fixing the potty." He turned on his heel. "I'd better get going; don't want to be late to the unveiling at Shroomberg!"

With that, Mario was gone. Luigi sighed and shook his head. His brother didn't even mention regret at not being able to go out on the town with him. After Luigi had been looking forward to this outing for the better part of the last week! Where was the fairness in the world? Where were the times where Marios of the world actually cared about the Luigis?

He made his way down the stairwell. He forced on a smile when he saw Toadette. "Come on, Toadette. Let's get your toilet fixed."

"Yes," Toadette replied. "Let's."

AN: Just to let you guys know, this does not take place in the Super Koopalings continuity. This is completely its own thing, so you can read it all on its own. Anyway, have a good day; I hope to post the next chapter really soon! :)
