Hailey sat in her car, parked outside a cafe, drinking coffee she knew she shouldn't be having at ten o'clock at night. She sighed, realizing that tonight would be another one of her frequently occurring sleepless nights. She leaned back in her seat for a moment before turning her radio on. She flipped through the channels, seeing if there were any calls not concerning drunk people or rowdy teenagers.

"We have multiple calls of a disturbance in Greektown. Reported screaming, no known gunshots fired. 1045 West Monroe Street"

"5021 Henry, hold me down on that. Advise responding; plainclothes officer will be on the scene," Hailey said into the radio as she started up the car.

"Copy that."

As she pulled up to the house, it was quiet. No other officers were at the scene and whatever disturbance that had occurred seemed to have stopped. She wasn't sure if it was being back in Greektown, but whatever this case is was giving her an eerie sense of deja vu.

She walked over to the door, placing her hand on her gun, but not going so far as to pull it out yet. She knocked on the door first, this was a disturbance not a murder or a suspect. She leaned over to look through the window and noticed blood on the floor. A lot of it.

"5021 Henry, requesting backup at 1045 West Monroe Street," she said into her radio, pulling her gun the rest of the way out.

"Copy that, 5021 Henry. Backup on the way."

Hailey placed her hand on the doorknob, checking to see if it was open. As she did this, she noticed another car pulling up to the scene.

"What's going on?" Kim asked as she ran to the door.

"I've got blood on the floor, a lot of it," she called out as Adam moved to get the battering ram out of the car.

Adam quickly ran up the steps with the ram.

"One, two, three," they called out as they opened the door and moved into the house.

As they moved through the house Hailey could hear Burgess and Ruzek calling out clear, all the way until the last room.

They stopped.

Four bodies.

Two adults, one adolescent, one child.

Two male, two female.

"Oh my god," Kim whispered as they stared at the scene.

They stared at the scene before Hailey noticed that the smallest appeared to be moving, stirring.

Hailey sprinted over to the girl on the floor as her eyes began to flutter open. Kim and Adam ran over the remaining family members, checking for a pulse.

"Hi," Hailey said softly to the girl on the floor, "I'm Hailey."

As a few moments passed the girl sat up with a start, immediately attempting to back away from her with a look in her eyes that sent Hailey spiraling back into her past.

"Hey," Hailey continued, raising her hands in surrender after placing her gun carefully on the floor, "I'm not going to hurt you. My name's Detective Hailey Upton," she said, "I'm a police officer. See, that's what this badge means," She continued, moving one hand down to show her badge.

She paid attention to the girl's concealed flinch, surprised by the movement. The girl couldn't have been any older than seven at the maximum.

"I'm here to help,"

She watched as the girl just stared at her. Observing her movements and contemplating her words, trying to determine whether or not they were sincere.

Meanwhile Burgess and Ruzek had discovered that the two males were alive. The female wasn't.

Hailey carefully lowered her hands to her lap, "Can you tell me what your name is?" Hailey asked.

She could hear cars pulling up to the scene. She knew she only had a few moments left to get any sort of information out of the girl before everyone else showed up and she got too scared to speak.

The girl's eyes widened in alert as she heard cars pulling up around the house.

"Those are more police officers," Hailey informed the girl, "They're my friends, they're here to help too."

"You're safe, okay?" Hailey continued, moving slightly closer to the girl, "Can you tell me your name?" She asked softly.

She could hear people getting out of their cars now.

"Hope," She whispered, "Russel. Hope Russel."

"It's very nice to meet you, Hope," Hailey said, giving her a small smile.

Hailey's eyes landed on Hope's cheek, which had a huge cut on it.

"That looks like it must hurt," Hailey said, gently gesturing to her cheek.

Hope blinked before shrugging her shoulders.

"Do you want to come with me?" Hailey asked.

She could tell that everyone else had shown up and they were getting close to coming in.

"I have some friends who can look at that. Make it so it doesn't hurt as much. And check to make sure you don't get sick."

Hope watched her nervously.

"I know them all," Hailey assured her.

Kim and Adam had now moved outside to talk to the rest of the team. Hailey positioned herself in front of the other bodies, hoping to protect her from having to see them. Although she didn't know how much that would do now.

"They're very nice," She continued.

Hope continued to stare at her.

Hailey took a breath, "I'll stay with you the whole time if you want. I promise."

Hope tilted her head. All her energy focused on Hailey; she didn't seem to be scared by the officers who had started walking into the house.

Hope gave her a small nod. And Hailey carefully moved towards her, slowly holding out a hand for her to take.

They slowly walked to the front door. As they moved to step outside, Hailey glanced at Hope, who was now trembling at the sight of officers and police cars and ambulance all sitting outside her house.

Hailey kneeled down to be at eye level with Hope.

"These are all my friends, remember?" She said softly to Hope, who was trembling in terror.

Hope continued to stare blankly at all the flashing lights and loud officers.

"I'm gonna pick you up," Hailey said to the girl, realizing there was no way Hope was going to be able to walk through all these people, "Okay?"

Hope still stared, but she gave Hailey a small nod of acknowledgment.

Hailey gently picked the girl up and started walking down the steps.

"Upton," Voight called out as he made his way over to her, taking note of the small kid in her arms, "You take the kid to Med, we'll keep you posted."

Hailey nodded and moved to her car, putting Hope in the backseat and going to sit in the front.

"We're going to see some more of my friends," Hailey said as she started the car, "They're going to try and make everything hurt less," she continued, "Okay?" She asked as she turned to look at Hope.

She nodded her head slightly, "Okay," she whispered.
