So much had led up to today. My first day of college. High school was fun. I had excelled in everything. Despite my personal life. I thought I was head over heels, but he had me fooled. He was really out to kill me.
Yes, only eighteen and already had numerous hits on my head. Why you may ask? Because I'm magical royalty. I came from the most elite family of witches and while the monarchy was dead, we were still at the very top of the line politically in the world of witches.
Speaking of me being a witch that high school I went to? It was for supernaturals, as is the college. Witches, vampires, werewolves, shape shifters, etc. And in high school, given my status, everyone wanted to be friends with me. Only a few really got to know me. My best friend Aurora got accepted at another school, which was her dream school. This one was mine. Smack dab in the middle of nowhere Virginia it was like the Ivy League for supernaturals.
Of course, my family had some pull. They didn't want me staying in the standard dorm. So, over the summer, a personal dorm was built just for me. It was a very rare thing, and only the elite got this. You had to be very special for you to get a personal room. It was basically a small house.
My mother and father were with me to see me off at school. Heads turned at the Rolls Royce when we pulled up. Mother was fussing over my hair and father was making sure I had everything I needed. I was going to miss them. They found it hard letting me go to school many states away from home after my attempted murder at the end of last school year, but they knew they had to let me go and learn to be on my own.
Over the summer they had given me the guest house to live in, which they had customized for me and would be there whenever I was home.
I was standing there silently begging my mother not to start crying as they started sending me off and saying their goodbyes. After my tour of the school last year, I knew where my dorm was, so I was getting ready to take the rest of my stuff over after one of our personal assistants had already moved most of my stuff in and got my place prepared for me.
I hugged my mother and father goodbye, something a lot of people around us were doing. I promised to keep in touch.
As I was walking to my place I got a call from my bestie asking how things were going.
"Isla Alexandra Grimwald, as I live and breathe! Thank you for gracing me with your voice today!" she said dramatically.
"Aurora," I snickered, she was so over the top sometimes.
"How are things going?" she asked.
"Well I just got here and I'm going to my dorm," I said to her as I held the phone and pulled my bags along with magic.
"So, are there a lot of cute guys there?" she asked, I could see her wiggling her eyebrows.
I chuckled, "I haven't had a chance to look yet. Not that I'm really looking…"
She sighed, "I get it girl, I do but you've got to not be afraid to put yourself out there again. Just because your ex was trying to kill you doesn't mean the next will be."
I sighed then, "It's still a sore subject. Listen I've got a walk ahead of me, I'll call you back later."
"I'm sorry," she said, I could tell she was frowning. She knew she had upset me bringing him up.
"No," I shook my head and sighed, "I know I don't really want to talk about it, like it never happened, but I know I'm going to have to. It's just…difficult. Look it's not your fault, really. I know you're just wanting your girl to find a guy. I hope you find someone out there. But seriously though, let me let you go."
"Okay," she sighed. "I love you girl."
"I love you to Rora," I said to her.
"Bye bestie!"
"Bye," I said with smile as I hung up. I looked down to put my phone back in my handbag and didn't notice when I ran right into someone.
"Oh my gosh I am so sorry!" I said as I looked at the guy I had just ran into. He stood there with brown hair and brown eyes and an amused look.
"Don't be darling, no harm done," he said with a smile and an accent to his voice.
"I seriously should be watching where I'm walking, though," I said to him. "Anyways, I'm Isla Grimwald."
"Ah, Miss Grimwald," he said as he took my hand and kissed it like a gentleman. "I heard a rumor you'd be going here."
"My reputation preceeds me I see," I chuckled.
"I'm pretty sure anyone would recognize that name," he smiled. "Allow me to introduce myself I'm Kol, Kol Mikaelson."
"Wait, Mikaelson as in the original vampires the Mikaelsons?" I said as I looked at him wide eyed.
"The very ones," he smirked. As I talked to him I looked him over and couldn't help to notice how handsome he was.
"I had no idea a Mikaelson was going here," I said to him, a bit shocked my dad didn't inform me of this.
"There's two of us actually me and my little sister Rebekah, she's a freshman like you, I'm in my second year here," he said to me.
"Oh, wow," I said.
"So, where are you staying Miss Grimwald?" he asked me.
"Please call me Isla, you don't have to be so formal," I giggled. "I kinda have my own dorm."
"Ah, so you're my new neighbor," Kol chuckled.
"Wait you have a private dorm too?" I said to him.
"Are we shocked?" he picked. "I mean I am an original vampire."
"True," I nodded.
"Come, I'll accompany you so no one harasses you," he said to me. "I'm sure many of the witches are going to recognize you."
"I'm sure they all will," I chuckled. Of course they would, after my attempted murder/assassination I was all over the supernatural news.
"I'm actually shocked you don't have a whole crew of body guards," he noted as we walked.
"With my dad…I'm sure there are some hidden around here somewhere. I know he's not letting me go here alone, no matter what he says. I'm not stupid. He forgets I can read him like a book," I said as I rolled my eyes.
Kol laughed, "I hear you're the most powerful your family has seen in centuries."
I shrugged, "I'm sure you've heard many things about me. As has everyone else around here." I scoffed. I knew there were going to be ass kissers here, just like high school. Everyone wanted to be on my good side. Have a good word in our world. Ride some coat tails….
"Something tells me you're not all about the fame," he said as he observed me.
"Not fully, although sometimes I can be a bit extra and over the top," I sighed. "I know I have a legacy to fulfill. But I just want to live life a little bit first, ya know?"
"Definitely," he nodded.
"What about you?" I said as I looked over at him. "I mean, you're over a thousand years old, why college now?"
"I've been a bit put away for a while…" Kol trailed off.
"So it's true," I said to him, "Klaus had some of you daggered?"
"Yes," he nodded.
"Wow, I'm so sorry," I said trying to find words to express my sympathy. I couldn't believe he had gone centuries locked in a box with a dagger in his heart just out.
"Don't be," he said, "You've been through worse." Then Kol saw my face, "Oh, gah, Isla, I'm sorry I didn't mean it like that. I am sorry. I shouldn't have brought that up."
I looked at the ground took in a breath and looked back up at him, "It's something I've got to face. I'm sure plenty of people are going to be bringing it up."
"I can't believe that son of a bitch did that to you," Kol said, his eyes darkening, veins under them protruding.
"Don't vamp out on me now," I chuckled, trying to lighten the mood.
"Sorry, it's just you're beautiful, and powerful, and you seem amazing, to make you think someone's in love with you, and was really out to kill you. To lead you on and use you all that time, with all the means to kill you in the end." Kol growled. "He deserved to die for that."
"And he did," I said to him as I grabbed his arm and looked at him. My first acquaintance here, maybe my first friend…. "Trust me, he suffered," I said bitterly.
Kol's eyes lightened as he looked at me and smiled, "Good."
We really didn't talk after this, just walked in silence. When we arrived at my dorm, I turned to Kol and smiled in thanks. And then I couldn't help myself… "Would you like to come in?" I asked him.
Kol grinned, "Sure."
We walked in my dorm and I was greeted by a familiar looking place. It was decorated exactly like my place back home. Pictures of me, my family, and my friends adorned the walls. Along with pictures of me and some of my favorite celebrities, idols from Korea. There were some of my favorite art pieces. The walls were glittery rose gold. The wood floors stained to match. I felt like I was home already. I was going to have to thank my parents profusely.
"A place fit for a royal," he grinned.
"Shut up," I said to him with a chuckle.
"What?" he grinned, "You are royalty."
"Don't let my dad hear that," I said to him with a laugh. "He doesn't like to use that term much anymore, only when necessary."
"Your father is a very good leader, you know," Kol said.
I sighed and smiled, "I know."
"So," he said, "would you like some help getting unpacked?"
"I think I can handle it," I said with a wink as I waved my hand and my stuff made its way to my bedroom and settled into its designated places.
"Ah, you really are powerful," he grinned.
"My dad would kill me for showing off," I chuckled.
"And your mom?" he asked.
"Eh, she's all for show," I shrugged. "She knows what she is and is proud of it."
"Ah, I think I'd like your mom," he smiled.
I smiled and stretched out on a chaise in my living room area.
"So, there's a big party tonight, first of the year thing, do you plan on going?" he asked.
"Why do you ask?" I asked curiously.
"I was hoping you'd be my date," he smiled.
So the vibes I was picking up off Kol was right. He was attracted to me. I thought of Aurora's words. If she was here, she'd kick my ass if I said no. And hell, I'd kick my own ass for saying no. Kol was gorgeous. Sure, the originals had a reputation. They were ruthless at times. They were definitely not one to be enemies with. Seeing as it appeared Kol had a thing for me, I thought why the hell not.
"Sure," I said with a grin.
"I'll leave you to settle in and get dolled up and ready, because I know your family, you all like to look good," he winked, "I'll see you tonight?"
"Definitely," I nodded.
"I look forward to seeing you soon," he said with a wink as he sped out my door. I sighed contentedly and realized I had to find something to wear.
Besides my obsession with rose gold, I also favored the color purple. It was always a color associated with royalty, so it was only fitting for me to show up in a purple dress. I chose a two piece purple number made of lace and a sheer fabric with a long flowy skirt and a slit up one side with a shorter purple skirt underneath made of lace. It was gorgeous. I made my, currently, blonde hair a light purple color, did my makeup in purples with a light pink almost nude lip. The eye makeup made my violet and green eyes pop.
I sprayed on my favorite perfume and waited for Kol to come. I didn't have to wait long before I knew it there was a knocking at my door.
"Hello darling," Kol said with a big grin as I opened the door.
"Hi Kol," I said with a grin of my own.
"Darling may I say, you look gorgeous," he said to me as he kissed my hand.
"Thank you," I smiled. He was wearing a dress shirt, tie, and blazer with dress pants and shoes. He was so handsome.
"I had heard of your eyes before, and while I noticed them before, I can't help but stare into them," he said as he held my hand and looked into my eyes making me blush.
My eyes were different it was a family thing and a witch thing. They were green on the top of the irises and a light shade of violet on the bottom, ringed with violet. You look at my eyes, it's a dead giveaway I'm a Grimwald.
"They're definitely a conversation starter," I noted with an amused smirk. "Stop you're making me blush!" I squealed as I slapped at him.
"What darling you're gorgeous?" he said as if I was being absurd.
"Have you looked in the mirror lately?" I said to him, my brow cocked.
"Oh, you find me attractive do you?" he said tauntingly.
"Maybe," I said with a nonchalant shrug.
"Hmm…I can sense the beginning of something epic," Kol said with a smirk as he took my hand and led me out the door.
The campus was buzzing with people going to the party. It was located in the dining hall that also was a ballroom on special occasions. It wasn't your typical dining hall either, more of a ballroom, beautifully and ornately decorated. There were twinkling lights everywhere. There was finger foods and drinks. Everyone was buzzing with excitement.
When we got there we were met by a blonde haired blue eyed girl. This must be the youngest Mikaelson.
"Isla Grimwald, my brother hasn't stopped raving about you since you two met, I'm Rebekah, Rebekah Mikaelson," she said to me with a smirk. Kol was staring daggers at her and she and I just laughed together. I could already tell Rebekah and I were going to be great friends.
"It's nice to meet you Rebekah," I smiled at her, "I must say it is nice having some more members of another prominent family here with me. Less attention on me…I hope."
"Yes, my brother said you weren't all uppity as royalty is expected to be, he said you seemed very down to earth," she said to me.
"I only flaunt my status when I have to," I said to her with a shrug. "But I'm not afraid to hide my power."
Rebekah laughed, "Ah, you're going to look out for this one Kol."
"She's going to be very fun, I can already tell," Kol smirked.
"So, how about we get some drinks?" Rebekah said as she looped her arm in mine and led me over to the table of drinks. Kol sped up to keep up with us. "So I hear you were the only one in your school to be accepted here."
"Yes," I nodded as we grabbed a drink and I took a sip of mine. "Ravenwood was my number one and I wasn't going to rest until I was accepted."
"You're a legacy, aren't you?" she asked.
"Yes, my parents went here," I nodded.
"They both left a mark here, something tells me you'll leave a bigger one," she grinned wickedly.
"Only time will tell," I said in a sing song voice.
"Quit hogging her Rebekah," Kol whined.
"Fine, I'll leave you two alone, see you both later," she said as she sauntered off towards a group of vampires.
"She's a bold one isn't she?" I chuckled.
"Meddling too, glad she didn't try to get any information out of you," he said to me.
"About?" I asked. Then I saw Kol's face. I knew exactly what he was talking about.
"Look, no one's going to press you about that as long as I'm around," he said to me.
"I'm sure you're curious yourself, I can feel it," I said to him as I sat my drink down on a nearby table.
"Yes, but I respect you, I'm not going to make you talk about it if you don't want to," he said to me.
"Maybe I'll tell you about it later…let's dance shall we?" I said as I held my hand out for him to lead me out on the dance floor. When a song I liked came on, a K-Pop song at that, I knew my father had people planted here watching me. I rolled my eyes but got into the song.
Kol and I danced and chatted with a few people for a few hours at the party. There I met a witch from another prominent family, the Bennetts. Her name was Bonnie. She didn't seem one hundred percent comfortable around Kol, but they knew each other. I also met a few vampires he knew, Rebekah's boyfriend Marcel, two brothers named the Salvatores and one of their flames named Elena and her and Bonnie's friend Caroline.
After a few hours of mingling I was ready to settle into the comfort of my own dorm. So, I told Kol I was ready to leave. He asked if it was okay if he joined me. I told him sure, we did have some things to talk about anyways.
When we got back to my dorm I kicked off my purple platform Louboutin pumps and relaxed into the chaise. Kol sat at my feet and put them in his lap.
"So, I know you want to know the real story," I said to him.
"Look, if you're not ready to talk about it, you don't have to," he said to me.
"It's been months and I haven't really talked about it since it happened, I want to talk about it," I told him.
"I'm here," he said sincerely as he took my hand. "Tell me all about it darling."
I sighed, "So Aidyn and I were high school sweethearts. I was totally smitten and totally blinded. He went the extra mile to hide things from me, his family had people watching me for years. He knew my blinders and knew how to blind me and distract me. He smothered me with "love" and attention. (I sighed and rolled my eyes)
"So much so, I lost my virginity to him on prom night. It makes me sick just thinking about it. I still feel like a fool for that.
"Anyways, Aidyn wasn't some normal witch. He came from a family that had tried to steal the throne from mine centuries ago. And those son of a bitches still held a grudge. Me being the only heir, they decided I needed to die. Then planned to off my family too after me.
"Thing is, Aidyn underestimated me. He never understood the full extent of my power and strength. On graduation night, when he came at me with a sword designed to specially kill a member of my family, I fought back, magically and physically. Sure he got a few blows in on me, I walked away with some cuts and bruises, but he was in way worse shape when the cavalry arrived.
"The trial afterward went fast, and he and his family were sentenced to be executed for treason, because even if the monarchy didn't exactly exist anymore. What he did was still considered treason to my kind.
"Usually executions are done by an executioner but sometimes, for special moments like this, the family involved could get, well, involved. My father executed his parents and their cohorts and I, well, I begged to be the one to take him out. My father was against it. He said I was too young, I was still recovering. My mother came to my rescue. She told my father I had every right to take him out myself. She and I are very close so she knew everything about him and I.
"You know the bastard tried to beg for his life? Begged for forgiveness, lied and said he loved me, tried to fool me. In the end his eyes went dark and cold and he told me he hated me and everything I represented, just like he did that night. I tortured him a bit for that. Then burned him at the stake with my magical fire. When I close my eyes in the silence I can still hear his screams of agony.
"And the twisted part? I enjoy it." I said with finality as I finally looked Kol in his eyes.
"He deserved it," Kol snarled.
"Yes," I nodded, "he did."
"You're more magnificent than I realized," Kol said to me as he came closer to me. "Powerful and vengeful and ruthless. Everyone sees your good side, but you have a dark side, I see it in your eyes."
"My family, we all seem good, perfect, flawless," I whispered, "but we have a dark side."
"Darling I'm old enough to remember your ancestors and how dark they could get," Kol said to me. "Your family was feared but they were respected."
"And they still are, to the knowledgeable," I said.
"My family hasn't really been involved in magic in over a thousand years," Kol said. "Except for Freya, my older sister the only one of us left that's a witch."
"Over a thousand years old and still alive?" I said, impressed, "Your family had powerful witches as well?"
"Freya is powerful, my mother was powerful but drew a lot off of the Bennett witches, a Bennett taught her everything she knew. And of course we came to be. My mother tried to kill us a few times before we took her out after coming back from the dead."
"Sounds like you and I both have a lot of drama in our lives," I chuckled.
"Yes," Kol nodded. "Care to have a bit more?"
"What do you mean?" I asked in amusement.
"Be my girl?" he said to me.
"Why the hell not?" I grinned at him wickedly. "father's always trying to create peace between the supernaturals, me dating an original vampire. Hell, that's a big move." My eyes danced with mischief as did Kol's.
My father would lose his shit when he found out I had not only befriended but started dating one of the original vampires. But hell, I had him wrapped around my little finger these days. He'd get over it and eventually see it as a good thing.
Kol looked super happy and relieved I said yes, he was nervous to ask. Making a thousand year old vampire nervous? That made me a bit cocky. I couldn't help it.
Kol saw the smirk on my face and smiled, "We're going to be Ravenwood's power couple."
"Aye, that we are," I grinned. Kol got closer to me and held my chin in his hands. Then, he brought his lips to mine in the most thrilling kiss of my life, leaving me breathless.
"Your heart's racing," he chuckled as he pulled away.
I smiled, "So is yours."
"You are more incredible than I realize," he chuckled again.
"Never underestimate me," I whispered as I leaned in to kiss him again.
"Never will again darling," he smiled as we broke our kiss and he held his forehead against mine.
"Good," I smiled.
"May I ask to see you with your natural hair color?" he asked me. "While you are gorgeous with any hair color, I want to see the true you."
I raked my fingers through my hair and it went back to its natural red color. Another Grimwald family thing.
"Ah, I think I like you best this way," he smiled.
"I get my looks from an ancestor of mine, a former queen," I said to him. "I switch my hair up sometimes when I'm bored."
"You should keep it this way," he said as he toyed with a strand of my hair. "It's beautiful. You're beautiful."
"Thanks," I smiled.
"Isla Grimwald, the most beautiful girl I've ever seen in my thousand years," he grinned making me blush.
"You're not so bad looking yourself Kol Mikaelson," I giggled. After this, I accidentally yawned.
"Ah, someone's sleepy," Kol bemused. "I shall leave you so you can go rest darling."
"See you tomorrow?" I asked, more like pleaded.
"First thing, darling," he beamed. "Goodnight, darling." With this he kissed me with a knee weakening kiss and gently got up from his place on the chaise and left out the door.
I sighed contentedly and locked the door using magic before I got up and went upstairs to change into something more comfortable. I put on a pair of pajama shorts that were very short and a bralette with a crop top covering it. I went and did my nightly routine, removing my makeup, doing my skincare treatment and brushing my teeth. Then, of course I peed one last time before I went and sunk into my comfy bed. It was just like my bed back home. I sighed happily as I drift off to sleep.
The next morning I awoke to a sliver of light peeking through my curtains. My first full day at Ravenwood, and the last day before classes begun. I recalled the previous day in my mind, meeting Kol and our new relationship beginning. I knew Aurora would kill me if I didn't call her and give her an update. So, I grabbed my phone off it's charger and hit her name in my contacts.
"Good morning sunshine," Aurora said happily as she answered.
"Good morning," I said happily.
"Ah, I know that voice, have you met someone already?" she gasped.
"Maybe," I said as I twirled a strand of my hair around my finger.
"What's his name? What is he? Tell me everything!" she rushed out.
"His name is Kol, Kol Mikaelson, yes he's an original vampire. He's in his second year, he is very charming and absolutely gorgeous. And an amazing kisser."
She gasped loudly, "You've kissed him already?"
"Yes," I smiled. "Oh Rora he's amazing!"
"I wonder how your dad is going to take you dating one of the original vamps," she said.
"I really don't care, he can't stop me," I said to her stubbornly. "Plus, after Aidyn my guard is up and I can read him very well. He has good intentions. No plans of killing me, he just wants me for me."
"Oh my gosh!" she gushed. "Do you have a picture of him?"
"I do actually," I said as I put her on speaker and pulled up pictures Kol and I took last night and sent her the best one. Waited for a second, then she gasped.
"Oh my god he is so hot!" she said. "Girl I am so happy for you!"
"So, how are things going there? Meet any hot guys yet?" I asked her.
"Girl," she said bluntly. "I am neck deep in hotties. I got a few numbers last night."
"Get it girl!" I said sassily.
"Looks like we're both going to have a very interesting school year," she said. "I love you girl, but I'm starving. Will you let me go so I can shower and go to breakfast?"
"Oh, of course! I said to her," realizing my own hunger. "I think I'll do the same."
"Okay bestie love you!" she said with a huge grin that I could see on her face from many miles away.
"Love you too bestie!" I grinned.
I got up and went to take a quick shower. I put on a tight glittery strappy crop top and a short sort of flared leather skirt. Finished the look off with some platform Loub booties and did a more natural makeup look than last night. I kept my hair red and let it fall down in curls and waves. I made my way downstairs and was met by a sudden knocking on my door.
I could feel his presence, I smiled and went to answer the door to see Kol standing there with two to go plates from the dining hall. He had brought breakfast to me.
"Morning darling," he grinned as he leaned in and kissed me sweetly. "I thought we'd eat breakfast here this morning."
"Perfectly fine with me," I hummed as I took a to go drink thing from his hand.
"An iced caramel and mocha coffee and orange juice," he said to me with a smile.
"How did you know?" I said with an amused grin.
"Happy guess?" he chuckled.
"So what do we have here?" I asked as I grabbed a plate from his hands and sat down on the floor at my coffee table.
"Pancakes, sausage, eggs, bacon, and for my southern girl some grits with cheese," he said.
"Ah, you're amazing," I grinned and kissed him again. "This is perfect!"
"Let's eat," he said as he sat beside me and opened up his plate. I did the same to mine and prepared everything the way I liked it.
"They weren't kidding when they said the dining hall had good food," I hummed in delight after I had a sampling of everything.
Kol chuckled, "So, love, how did you sleep?"
"Well, how about you?" I asked him.
"Very well," he said with a smile. "With you on my mind, it was a delightful rest."
I smiled, "Yes, that it was."
"Darling, I hope you don't mind, I told my brothers about us," he said to me.
"Of course not," I said to him as I ate. "Klaus and Elijah right?"
"Yes," he nodded, "The leaders of the family."
"What did they say?" I asked curiously.
"They were very impressed," Kol smirked. "They told me to make sure I didn't piss off your father."
I laughed, "They're wise, I'll give them that."
"Niklaus told me to make sure to let him know when you tell your parents, he would like to meet your father and assure your safety," he said.
"Wow, that's kind of him," I said in shock. Klaus was ruthless. He wasn't known for his niceness.
"He knows how serious I am about you," Kol said as he looked me deep in my eyes. Making me blush and smile.
"So we're serious already?" I asked him.
"I am, you don't have to be yet if you don't want to," Kol said, a bit embarrassedly.
"No," I shook my head and grabbed his hand. "I'd really like that."
"Really?" Kol perked up.
"Really," I smiled as I caressed his face and kissed him.
"I've never felt this way about anyone, ever," Kol admitted.
"I'm feeling some strong feelings too," I admitted aloud to him. And I was. Everything about him felt right. It didn't bother me about his family, his past, their reputation. I could tell I brought out a lot of humanity in him. I could tell Kol would be as good for me as I am for him.
I was happy with Kol already. I know we just started dating, but I had a really good feeling about him. I could see a future with him. I felt it. Kol could possibly be my soul mate. And I was perfectly fine with that, and I just knew he was too.
A/N: So thank you for staying to the end of the chapter. If you like it so far let me know! Like on here favorite whatever or on tumblr if it led you here. This is an AU if you haven't figured already. Honestly this one could be an original story if it didn't involve Kol, but the dream I had that inspired it involved him so it come to this. Don't steal my ideas btw. It's rude! Anyways, I look forward to positive feedback and hope you are looking forward to the next chapter.
