PROLOGUE

Amazon Rainforest, 1998

Two framed photographs sat on the shelf, each the portrait of a young woman in her early twenties. The subject of the left frame was sulking in the shadows, glaring at the viewer through distant, calculating black eyes. The rest of her features could be summed up quickly; a thin, hard mouth, arched brows, a strong nose and clear-cut cheekbones. Her coppery brown hair had been pulled back into a stern bun, exposing the angles of her tired face.

The woman on the right had rosy lips, a well-shaped nose, soft pink cheeks and gently arched eyebrows. A glossy black cascade of hair framed her pale heart-shaped face, and her vibrant emerald eyes shone with happiness, despite weariness buried deep in them.

The two frames had been angled toward each other, although the subjects clearly disliked each other.

A/N: Short induction, I know. I plan on uploading new chapters weekly.
