I don't own naruto, got it?
You might be asking: "Sith, why is Mangetsu in this story??" Or "Hmm, this sounds interesting; How did you come up with the idea?"
To the first question: shut, Mangetsu is cool, And I wanna do something no one has done (no one that I know of)
To the second question: Mangetsu is one of my favourite characters by design, and he's the brother of suigetsu. (Another one of my favourite characters) So I thought, "hmm, why not? This should be hella fun, and give me a Challenge!"
Note: this story will barely follow cannon, but key events might stay somewhat the same. (if my stupid ass doesn't get ideas)
So, I humbly ask you to give me ideas about ships, changes to key events, etc; And I'll try my best to follow your ideas.
Hope you enjoy…also, graphic warning.
Chapter-1: A tale of two brothers. Part-1:
Somewhere in kirigakure…
It was foggy, A dense mist covered everything, as it usually did. But this time there was something different. The air smelt of iron, only the kind that came from blood. The mist slowly parted, revealing a gruesome sight: mangetsu stood in a massive pool of blood, covered head to toe in blood and gore, his white-blue hair was now dyed crimson with blood.
Dead Kiri anbu, and shinobi were strewn about Half hazardously; All chopped, sliced, or ripped apart with brutality, that only the sickest of shinobi could match. Today, however, it was displayed by man that had been betrayed.
Flashback: 1 months earlier…
Mangetsu felt uneasy, like something was going to go wrong, but he couldn't put his finger on it. His musings were put to the side, as he entered Yagura's (the mizukage's) office. "Ah, mangetsu-kun, it's been awhile since I last saw you. Has anything important happened, or are you dropping by to chat with an old friend?"
Mangetsu couldn't help but smile. "No, No. it's nothing important, mizukage-sama. As you mentioned, I have just dropped by for a nice chat." Yagura chuckled as he leaned back in his chair, and ignored the massive Pile of paperwork "mangetsu-kun, there is no need for you to refer to me as 'mizukage-sama'. I've been your friend for far longer, then I've been Mizukage"
"My apologies, yagura-kun, it's just that, I've had a bad gut feeling and a lot on my mind recently; I've just not been able to focus." Yagura's face shifted into that of concern. "Is anything wrong? I may be of assistance, if you tell me" mangetsu waved his hands in dismissal, "it's fine, yagura-kun, I've been having this gut feeling that something is off; asides that, nothing of note"
Yagura's face eased, but he was still concerned; even if he didn't outwardly show it. "If you say so, mangetsu-kun. Umm, might I ask: how is your brother suigetsu? You haven't brought him around here nearly as much as you should. He is just the sweetest little boy; He has a great fascination for the great ninja swords, only surpassed by you."
Mangetsu chuckled as he looked out the window, overlooking the village. "He's a bit of a troublemaker: always wanting to play with Hiramekarei when I'm not looking. Asides that, he's doing well. And if everything goes well, he'll soon join the academy; Though, I want to keep his child like innocence intact for as long as I can"
Mangetsu got a melancholy look on his face: he remembered when he first joined the academy. how the first days were, and how the last days were. Mangetsu felt a hand on his shoulder, "it's fine, mangetsu-kun, I understand where you're coming from. But sooner or later, suigetsu will have to join the academy. It's best that you help him on his journey, not stop him from walking it."
"Maybe, you're right. But a part of me just wants him to remain my sweet, innocent, little brother." Yagura patted his shoulder, "I fully understand, but why don't we talk about this another time? it's time for me to get to work. All this paperwork isn't going to do itself, now is it?" Mangetsu chuckled, turned, and gave Yagura a hug. "Yeah, you get back to work, I'll take my leave now."
In the village…
Manget casually strolled through the village, getting an occasional greeting, or wave. He watched merchants in shops, shinobi buying equipment, children running around playing ninja. The usual things that happen in an alive village. Mangetsu felt the gut feeling get stronger, it was like something terrible was just around the corner, looming, but just out of sight.
He pondered on what it could be about. Perhaps something relating to him, or the village as a whole. Then something clicked. He had been saying how people with bloodlines were slowly being mistreated, and feared. Perhaps something relating to that was about to come to a head: "No, No, it couldn't be about that, could it? Maybe, I'm mistaken; perhaps, I'm over thinking it"
Later…
Mangetsu entered his apartment, only to be Tackled by a ball of white, blue, and purple: "NII-SAN!"
"Yes, suigetsu-kun, how may I help you?" He asked as he patted the boy on the head. Suigetsu wrapped his arms around Mangetsu, and squeezed: "you're the best older brother in the world!"
"Let's cut to the point, suigetsu-kun. What do you want? You don't usually tackle me" suigetsu gave him an innocent, confused look: "what, I can't hug my nii-san without a reason?" He puffed out his cheeks and looked away, feigning anger. "Enough drama, drama queen" Mangetsu stood up right, and held suigetsu up in his arms.
"Fine, I was wondering, if tomorrow I could pla-I mean train with Hiramekarei. Please, please, please!" Mangetsu chuckled and kissed the boy on the head, "I'll think about it, suigetsu-kun. Now you go play, or something. I've got some paperwork to finish"
"Yay, you're the best, nii-san!" Suigetsu cheerfully exclaimed, and kissed mangetsu on the cheek, then ran off. "Never Change, my sweet little brother. Never change" he wiped away a tear as he walked to his office.
Hours later…
Mangetsu's head was slumped on his desk, asleep. He was never the sort that would sit down for hours, and do paper work. He might have been more productive then his brother, but he still found his moments to Slack off.
"Nii-san, what's for dinne-…oh, he fell asleep" suigetsu gently nudged his brother, "nii-san, wake up. You have to make dinner" Mangetsu lazily opened his eyes and hummed "yes, suigetsu-kun. what do you want?" Suigetsu deadpanned at him, and pointed at the clock: '8:40pm' mangetsu rubbed his eyes, and stood up. yawning.
"Dinner, Right? Then you have to wait" he said, and suigetsu frowned, "how long do I have to wait?" His stomach growled "I'm starving!"
"Right, Right, As you wish. I'll get to making dinner, just stop complaining, alright, suigetsu-kun?" Suigetsu nodded, and the older Hōzuki ruffled his hair "good boy". Suigetsu's cheeks got slightly brighter. "Now, come here" mangetsu picked up his little ball of Energy, and walked to the kitchen.
The next day…
The repeating cries of an alarm clock echoed through out the room. If looks carried heat, mangetsu would've melted a hole through the clock. "Son of a b-" suigetsu's shuffling stopped mangetsu from swearing. He looked at the clock '6am' on the mark.
Mangetsu got out of bed, much to his discomfort. He made himself some breakfast, and pondered what the day might have in store for him. It couldn't be bad, could it? He sipped on some tea, and heard a pair of soft footsteps "Nii-san" Suigetsu spoke with a soft, sleepy, adorable voice, "why are you up so early? Shouldn't you come back to sleep?"
"Unlike you, sleepyhead, I have my work as a shinobi. I don't get to sleep in; this will be your future" Suigetsu paled, much to the amusement of his brother "N-no, that's not fair!" Mangetsu rolled his eyes, "how so? Weren't you the one telling me: how much better of a swordsmen you would become? That I was only going to look weak compared to you? You can't become stronger, if you're lazy. understood, my little, adorable, sleepyhead?"
Suigetsu just nodded, as he sat down on a chair next to his brother. Mangetsu passed him some breakfast, and they ate in each other's company.
Later, at the Mizukage's office…
Yagura heard a knocking at the door. "Come in" Yagura said, and mangetsu walked in " i'm guessing that you're here for the mission fill. Right?" Mangetsu nodded, and Yagura held up a fill. "This should have everything about the mission." Mangetsu took the fill and thanked Yagura. "I would have sent anbu, but I'm on short supply, and one of the teams won't be here in time." Yagura said sheepishly. "It's no big deal, Yagura-kun" Mangetsu said, as he waved off Yagura.
Mangetsu wished Yagura well, and took his leave.
Later, at the gates of the village…
Mangetsu walked outside of the village gate. "Here we go…" He said sarcastically. This mission could get very ugly, very fast. His job was to: investigate the disappearance of the 'Kirigakure no Raijin' (or more commonly known as: Kurosuki Raiga).
He walked down the dirt road as he continued to read, his steps making a splashing, mushing sound on the puddles, which had been made by the morning rain. "Last spotted near Yama-village at the south, huh? Sounds like a good enough place to start." He Leapt upon a tree branch, and start jumping from one branch to another, increasing his pace.
Later, borders of Yama-village…
Time Had seemed to pass by in the blink of an eye. The once bright morning sunshine, replaced with Twilight rays from the moon high in the night sky "oh, what a beautiful night; only if I could have rested today*sigh*" mangetsu said in dismay. His eyes locked onto the vague outline of buildings In the distance "Yama-village". But something was off; there were no sources of light to speak of.
The village almost seemed to blend in with the midnight darkness. Within minutes, mangetsu found himself in the village. As he saw earlier, there was no lights or sounds, the houses, shops, and other buildings lay in darkness and dead silence. "This is off…to say the least."
As he walked, his footsteps seemed to echo, And his mind began to wonder…if the disappearance of Raiga and this had some connection. He stopped dead in his tracks, as he heard footsteps. "What the…" it wasn't only footsteps he heard. He also heard the laughter of a mad man, that echoed through the streets. If mangetsu wasn't on edge before, he most certainly was now.
Mangetsu leapt onto the roof of a building and hid, as the laughter got closer and closer. "No way…No damn way" the origin of the mad laughter was a man that mangetsu knew well, "Raiga…" he almost didn't want to believe his eyes. Raiga continued to laugh as he walked through the street, Kiba dragging behind him, leaving long, jagged lines on the pavement.
Raiga stopped and tilted his head to the side, "I know you're up there, mangetsu-kun; Did you think I wouldn't notice?" Mangetsu was a bit stunned, he didn't think Raiga would sense his presence. He sighed and jumped down, keeping quite a fair distance, between him and Raiga.
"Raiga, what're you doing here?" Raiga grinned, his grin made him look even more insane. "Oh, nothing, just a bit of fun" mangetsu noticed blood stains on Raiga's clothes, "what do you mean by 'fun' , Raiga?" At that, Raiga's grin grew, "haha, why don't I show you?" Mangetsu tilted his head, fast, barely dodging a kunai.
He jumped back, un-sheathing Hiramekarei, "what's the meaning of this?!" Mangetsu furiously demanded, "as I said…FUN!" In one Swift moment, Raiga pulled Kiba to his hands, and lunged at mangetsu. The two men clashed in the middle of the street. The sound of thunder crackled in the sky, rain beginning to pour.
While mangetsu dodged and parried, Raiga only maniacally laughed, "what happened to you, raiga?" At that, raiga slightly frowned, "what happened to me isn't important, you should focus on not dying!" Raiga moved to take off mangetsu's head, only for the Hōzuki to block. Raiga fought like an un-caged animal, moving wildly, damaging everything around him.
Raiga threw a powerful kick at mangetsu, but as the kick hit, that part of mangetsu's body turned to water, the kick harmlessly passing through it. "You dirty rat bastard!" Raiga punched faster then mangetsu could react. The punch nailed mangetsu in the face, sending him staggering a few metres back.
Mangetsu, slightly dazed, had just enough time to lean back; But the sharp tip of Kiba left a long, jagged gash on his cheek. He didn't have time to acknowledge his new wound. He stepped back, dodging a head cleaving strike. Mangetsu lashed out with Hiramekarei, cutting across raiga's left arm. "Damn you!". The two men continued their dance of death.
The rain poured, lightning boomed, and the ringing of steel bashing against steel; These noises echoed across the, seemingly dead, village. "Raisō: Ikazuchi no Utage! (Lightning Burial: Banquet of Lightning)" the pervasive sounds were overshadowed by the loud, deafening crackle of lightning. The ground before mangetsu trembled and gave way, as bolts of lightning Brust forth from the ground, moving towards him.
Mangetsu leapt onto a building, saving himself from death. The ground where he once stood, was now cracked and broken. Raiga grinned as he pulled the twin blades of Kiba from the ground. "I'm not done with you!" Raiga swag one of the blades of Kiba, sending an arcing slash of lightning towards mangetsu.
"Doton: Doryūheki! (Earth Release: Earth-Style Wall)" The wall did little to stop the wave of lightning chakra, but it did give mangetsu time to dodge. "I don't know how much longer I can hold my own" mangetsu thought as he, once again, locked blades with raiga. Both men were strong, but raiga was significantly stronger then our mangetsu.
A little bit later…
Mangetsu found himself disarmed. He was battered, bruised, and cut. He had tried his best: parrying attacks, dodging, turning his body into water…but, it wasn't enough; And now he found himself at the mercy of raiga, the man he was tasked with bringing backed, "aw, look at you, poor boy. You bit off more then you could Chew, and look where it got you, poor little thing." Mangetsu glared at raiga, his eyes burning with anger. It only seemed to add more fuel to raiga's manic grin.
Raiga walked towards mangetsu, who was leaned against a building wall. He walked slowly, mockingly, towards a defeated foe. Suddenly, raiga dodged to the side, a kunai flew by and embedded itself into the wall. "Kurosuki Raiga, I think you need to come with us." Raiga looked back, snarling. Several anbu stood adjacent to him, holding out their weapons.
Raiga sized them up, he could see four of them, but he knew there were more. The anbu captain once again told raiga to stand down, but all he got was a murderous glare. "We're not done! you understand!?" Raiga yelled towards mangetsu, before vanishing away with a bolt of lightning. Mangetsu could only groan in pain. He was losing blood, and his consciousness.
Later…
Mangetsu woke up, feeling a sharp pain all across his body, "sir, lay down, you need to rest" an anbu said, motioning mangetsu to lay down. Mangetsu could only groan in pain, his whole body felt like it had been put through a blender. "It's fine. I'm fine." Mangetsu said as he stood up, the pain in his legs told him to reconsider.
Mangetsu ignored the pain and walked outside, finding the anbu lining up body bags. Mangetsu was stopped from moving any further by the anbu captain. "It's best you get some rest, mangetsu-san. We'll take care of the bodies, and the villagers" mangetsu looked around, seeing some frightened villagers looking out of house windows. "So, this isn't a dead village? I thought raiga had killed all the villagers."
"He has killed a lot, but your timely investigation stopped him from getting the rest" the captain said as he patted mangetsu's shoulder. Mangetsu sighed as he turned back, finally wanting to get some rest.
Alright, end of chapter.
You might have some questions, regarding my slow update schedule. The answer is, I'm getting quite burnt out of writing, so I've slowed down, that way I won't get completely burnt out.
As for when the second chapter will come out. My honest answer is, maybe late march.
Mangetsu's current age is 19. For anyone who wanted to know :P.
