He could still recall the second he first noticed her cheek marks. How could he not? Those hearts, which were once filled with such a sweet, such a joyful pink, replaced by a glowing, rich, yet unnerving green. He was certain that it had to do with the change the wand faced not too long ago, but it was also connected to her emotions, something he also caught onto quickly.

The day it really triggered his concern was when he casually mentioned Jackie during one of their Friendship Thursdays—and all the other multiple times he mentioned Jackie after that one.

He had never seen Star so frequently on the offense, filled with such irritation that she could yell without taking it back in embarrassment. Even by cutting out the times he mentioned Jackie, there were still a handful of moments where she was ticked away, closer and closer to a possibly colorful, violent boom.

And while he wanted to push the question today, it ended up not appearing as part of the plan. It would be a stupid choice to ask after his injuries and witnessing that boom. He could only see the panic in her eyes, feel her hand shift his hair to the side, but he could feel her rage when she stood up and took aim.

So just for the day, just for Star, he'd have to bury the question. He acted as cool as he could be in his battered state, tried to bring himself onto his feet to take some weight off of Star, and slowly tread back home, hoping to never be on the face side of the wand when she'd return with those little green hearts.
