I don't know why I'm writing this but here we go.
All was quiet, the void felt interesting, it felt like I was underwater, but I could breath just fine.
Man, that semi-truck came out of nowhere. Looked like the driver was in a hurry, maybe he stole it? Oh well it's not gonna help much to speculate on my death.
Oh yeah
I was dead.
Fuck
I wasn't ready. I still had an entire life ahead of me. I still had family, friends, people who cared about me.
And I still haven't beaten the ender dragon in survival yet…
What? Minecraft is a baller ass game okay?
I sighed, somehow… wonder how I'm still able to do that while dead?
Welp, death was just a part of life and I'm just going to have to accept that I guess.
Still didn't make it any less sad though…
"I should distract myself," I say as I look around the void.
Nothing…
Alright then… lets try something out. I wanted to see what I was able to do in this void, so I closed my eyes and started thinking.
I opened my eyes again…
Nothing…
Welp, worth a shot, I guess.
Then at the edge of my vision I see a dim glow.
"I should check that out," I said to myself as I "swam" closer, while still pondering on how I was able to talk. When I got closer, I could finally make out a door. On closer inspection, the glow seemed to come from a blocky symbol that resembled a lightbulb on the door.
Wait…
I've seen that symbol before… back when I was playing the game Oneshot…
And based on what I was thinking about…
"Welp, time for testing," I say to myself again as I opened the door slightly.
Except I didn't as I was still incorporeal. Now that there's light I could also see that I seemed to not have a body.
Fuck
Wait… if I could create this door out of nothing then maybe I could create a body too.
An arm suddenly materializing in front of my eyes answered my question. I slowly reached out and twisted the doorknob. Now if I had created this door then that means it should lead to…
I opened the door a bit, which lead to some light from the other side pouring into the void. Opening the door fully It took a second for my eyes to adjust to the light, but when they did, I was met with a beautiful sight.
A wheat field that seemed to go on for miles surrounded a small town, the wind blowing around me was causing waves to form in it. The small town didn't have any big buildings with the tallest one being only two stories tall.
I can't believe it; I was at Niko's hometown.
"HOLY SHIT IT WORKED!" I yelled as did a little celebratory dance. It must have been a silly sight, seeing a rather imposing and heavily armed person, pump their fist in the air and dancing around in circles.
Once I was calm enough, but still very giddy. I regained enough rational thought to check out my appearance. I summoned my iPhone 7, and opened the camera. Oh, I was one of my OCs. I put a hand on my mask, and I scratched my chin in thought. Somehow the four slanted slits on my mask that acted as eye holes narrowed with my eyes in thought. 'Okay, first thing's first, I need to place a place to stay. I could probably just buy a house in the town. But I didn't have any money.' Wait… I concentrated a bit… and bam! A gold bar that was about an ounce appeared in my hand. This should definitely be more than enough to buy some decrepit house.
As I walked through town, I received more than a few stares for my appearance. Most stares were filled with curiosity, but a few were filled with fear and suspicion. I don't blame them; I would also be somewhat suspicious if some heavily armed stranger walked into my neighborhood. It's good that I had a mask on because I was staring at them as well.
'Looks like Niko wasn't lying about everyone at their home having the same features as them.' I thought as I inspected the locals. All of them had luminous yellow eyes, whiskers and cat ears as well. No one had gone up and questioned me about my appearance yet, so I guess they were just being polite.
Buying a house was relatively simple, as I just located a relatively large piece of property coupled with a decrepit house at the edge of town. I inspected the for-sale sign and then just headed to find the owner of the house. The man was surprised at my appearance when I showed up at his doorstep, but even more so when I told him I wanted to purchase the property that he labeled as, and I quote, "a piece of shit." He stopped questioning my decision though, after I broke the gold bar in half and offered him a piece. So, we ended up shaking on it, and I would say it was a pretty fair deal. The dude was now about 30 thousand dollars richer and I got a sizable piece of land with a house that needed repairs costing about triple its price.
Wasn't exactly a problem for me though, as I could just create more gold bars, and with how my newfound powers have been working so far… and yep. With a thought and a snap of my fingers, the house went from looking like a horror movie set to a modest but cozy suburban home. I noticed however that I felt a little a fatigued after performing this action. I wasn't exhausted but I felt like I should sit down for a bit to catch my breath. 'Seems like there's a limit to how much I can use powers.' I thought to myself. Oh well, I'll test out the limitations later, now was the time for a house tour!
Honestly the house looked quite out of place next to the wheat field, but I didn't really care, as long as I was sheltered and comfortable, I didn't really care how my house looked. I opened the door and walked inside to inspect the interior.
The house was modeled after my own home except there were a few additions to it. The most notable one being that my bedroom now had a side room, that was dedicated to gaming. As I walked inside I almost cried tears of joy as laid my eyes upon a gaming pc. No longer was I bound by the restrictions that were placed upon mac gamers, I had finally ascended and become part of the pc master race!
Welp now that that's out of the way, now seemed like a good time to hop on Team Fortress 2. As luck would have it Steam was a thing in this world, and through using my powers, I willed my account from my previous life into existence. At this point was I abusing my powers? Maybe. Did I care? No.
I plugged in my headset and began to queue for a game in tf2.
3 hours later…
I blinked my eyes tiredly as the announcer said something, and my weapon glowed blue with electricity forming around it to signify that it now deals critical hits.
"Huh? Oh, shit we actually managed to capture the intelligence," I mumbled out, "welp two more caps and we'll finally win." I sat up straighter in my chair and pushed myself to keep playing, with any luck this game will wrap up after another 5 hours, I was playing on 2fort after all.
I was just about to make a push into RED's intel room, when my concentration was broken by my doorbell ringing.
WHOMST DARES TO DISTURB MY GAMING SESSION
I took a deep breath and exhaled to smother the fires of rage in me, I got up from my desk and walked towards the front door. Opening the door, I saw a middle-aged female (cat?) person, I really had to find out the name of their species, she was wearing an apron and carrying a picnic basket. She also looked awfully famili-oh shit this was Niko's mother.
It was then that I noticed the figure peeking out from behind her. Luminous yellow eyes met the neon blue glow emanating from my four eyeholes.
It was also then that I realized that we have been staring at each other for solid 5 seconds and I awkwardly proceeded to try and salvage this interaction.
"Uh… hey, can I help you guys with anything?" Niko's eyes widened as they recognized my voice while their mother responded.
"Well, we noticed that you've just moved in and we wanted to welcome you!" She said cheerily, she then proceeded with introductions. "My name is Hazel, and this is Niko," she introduced, while Niko who was still shocked just meekly waved. "We wanted you to have a great first impression of our town, so we threw together this little welcome gift!" She said handing me the picnic basket she was carrying.
I took a quick peek under the blanket covering the basket and was greeted with the sight of bread and some pastries. And they looked fucking delicious.
"Wow! Thank you guys so much for doing this!" I say feeling immense gratitude for the gift.
"Oh it was nothing," Hazel said smiling. And with that the awkward silence resumed, only being broken by me inviting them inside.
Once they had sat down, I went to get them something to drink. I opened up the fridge to find… nothing. I made a mental note to create some groceries later as I made sure my guests couldn't see me conjure some soda out of thin air.
"Would you two like some soda?" I asked as I set the cans down at the table. "Yes please," Hazel replied as Niko just responded with a small nod. We all took a sip before Hazel started speaking again. "This ginger ale is pretty good," she judged, I nodded before she continued, "though I can't say I've ever heard of the brand 'Canada Dry' before."
Shit
"Uhhh…" a bead of sweat rolled down my mask as I scrambled to come up with an explanation. "The name is just based off of this small village way up north," I lied. "Oh," Hazel responded. It didn't sound like she really believed me, but it didn't seem like she would question me about it further.
"Uh, if you don't mind can I please use your bathroom," Hazel requested. "Oh yeah sure, they're right down that hallway," I said granting her request. As she soon as she closed the door to the bathroom, Niko looked at me and asked one simple question.
"Do you still remember?"
I chuckled slightly and responded, "as if I could ever forget my messiah."
I was going to make another remark before Niko suddenly barreled into me and wrapped me in a hug. I was a little shocked before chuckling again and returning the hug.
We stayed like this for a little while before Niko eventually let go and began bombarding me with questions.
"How did you get here?" They asked curiously. "Well I uh… kinda died?" Niko's face was full of shock and horror at my response.
"WHAT!?" They yelled, before I tried to quiet them down. "Hey, keep it down, there's no need for your mother to know that I reincarnated or something." Niko calmed down a little before speaking again. "That still doesn't answer my question of how you got here." I put my hand to my chin and started to think. "Well I'm not too sure myself," I admitted. "When I was floating around in the void I kind of just thought of a door to here and then it appeared."
"Huh, weird," Niko said before looking a bit sad. "I'm sorry to hear that you uh… died." They then perked up a little bit, "but I'm glad you got to visit, and I got to see you again."
"Me too buddy," I agreed before our heads both turned to the sound of the toilet flushing. "Come on Niko, it's time to go home." Hazel said closing the bathroom door. "OK mama," Niko said getting out of their chair and walking with Hazel. They were almost at the door before Hazel seemed to remember something and turned to face me. "By the way we never got your name dear."
'Aw shit,' I thought before introducing myself. "Sorry I forgot to tell you guys earlier," I said scratching the back of my neck awkwardly. "My name's Zhongdonian, you guys can just refer to me as Zhong if you'd like."
Hazel seemed to think my name sounded a little weird but said nothing of it to be polite. "Well we thank you for the hospitality, Zhongdonian."
"Oh, it was my pleasure, and thank you guys again for the gift." I said as I opened the door for them. "I guess I'll see you guys around," I say while waving goodbye "We'll look forward to seeing you around as well." Hazel responded with her own wave and Niko joined in, waving a lot more enthusiastically than before.
I gave them one last wave before closing the door and walking back to my computer. 'Things are starting to get interesting,' I thought to myself before sitting down at my desk and looking at the computer screen, only to see the words…
