Clover Kingdom's Champion
(Threatened by a ruthless Demon, humanity was on the brink of destruction. All seemed lost until a long mage stepped forward and took up the fight. After his triumph, he was hailed as the Wizard King, and his story became legend.
Time flowed onward into the present. The mantle of Wizard King was passed on through the ages, and always, he and the Magic Knights under his command, have fought to keep the Clover Kingdom Safe. Operating under the direct control of the Wizard King.
But there is one thing legend had forgotten about in the battle between the first Wizard King, and the Demon who threatened the very safety of that kingdom. Something that had distracted the Demon, long enough for the first Wizard King to make his final strike, and kill the demon, leaving its skeleton to lay on the edge of the Kingdom. In the present day, the Demon's Skull can be seen in Hage Village, with a statue of the first Wizard King atop it.
But what legend had forgotten, laid buried under its skull, until very recently.)
It was a cold and bitter night. The snow was falling to the ground, and the streets were deserted, all but one, as a man in his late twenties, early thirties, was trying to fight off a silver haired kid, wearing rags, while a black haired kid, was just cowering in fear of the older man.
"Seriously kid, just leave me alone." The man exclaimed.
"No, not until you give Yuno his necklace back." The boy exclaimed.
"Asta, don't…"
"Just wait and see. I'll get your necklace back for you Yuno and then I'll prove to you which of us is superior." Asta cried out, running for the man again, only to be knocked down once more.
"Jeez, just die kid. There's no way in hell I'm giving this necklace back to your friend." The man exclaimed, pulling out his Grimoire. "One of my spells should do the trick." He said, powering up a spell.
"ASTA NO." Yuno cried out.
Before the man could fire off his spell, his Grimoire was nabbed and forced shut by a small figure, who skid along the snow covered ground. The man turned to see a young girl, around Asta and Yuno's age, wearing some sort of weird armor, that looked like it had seen better days. Her hair was black, straight and smooth, and went straight down to the base of her spine, but the thing that caught their attention the most, was the tail she had weaving about behind her. But anyone looking at her face, wouldn't be able to do anything but admire how cute she looked, when trying to be intimidating and serious.
"Without this, you can't complete that spell." She said, holding up the Grimoire in one hand. "So you thought it'd be fun to end someone's life huh?"
"I don't have to listen to a freak chastise me. Give back my Grimoire or…"
Before he could finish that, the kid's hand lit up in fire, and almost instantly turned the Grimoire to ashes.
"Like I said, I'm not gonna let that happen." The girl exclaimed.
"W-what have you done? People are only allowed one Grimoire. Just one. They're irreplaceable, and are unique to everyone's nature and element." The man said, dropping to his knees, his eyes locked on the pile of ashes that used to be his Grimoire.
"Tough." She said. "You should have thought about that before you decided to try and kill an innocent boy."
In a flash, the girl was in front of the man, and hit him with a flying kick to the face, sending him into the wall, battered and bloody from that single hit. The necklace flew out of his hand and landed in the girl's palm. With the child beater knocked out, the girl went to Asta and Yuno, as the black haired boy was helping his silver haired brother to stand up, looking hesitantly at the girl as she came closer to them.
"I believe this belongs to you." She said, holding the necklace out to Yuno.
"Uh, thanks." Yuno said, accepting it back.
"That was so awesome how you were able to steal his Grimoire and burn it to nothing." Asta smiled, missing a tooth.
"Are you okay? Your cheeks are swollen and you're missing some teeth." The girl said, as if she hadn't heard his compliment.
"Oh yeah, it hurts a bit, but the pain will subside." Asta smiled.
"Here." The girl smiled, putting her hands on his cheeks, before Asta gasped.
The area where her hands were touching his cheeks began to glow an icy blue as the pain started to subside.
"Whoa, I thought your element was fire." Asta said. "The pain is totally gone."
"I don't know how, but I've always been able to use more than one element of magic." She said. "It's been that way for as long as I can remember."
"Why don't you come with us to the church? I'm sure Sister Lily and Father would be interested in seeing you." Yuno exclaimed.
"Okay." She said.
"What's your name?" Asta asked as they walked through the town.
"I don't know. I've never had one."
"Never?" Yuno inquired.
"Never. All I remember of my life, is living out in the wild on my own. I think it's been that way, ever since I was a baby." She exclaimed.
"So, who took care of you then?" Asta asked.
"No one. I've been taking care of myself. There was this one lady though, who taught me how to hunt for food, and to survive in the wild. I can't properly remember her name though. But I do know she had fiery red hair, and the ferocity of a wild predator." The girl smiled.
"Well we'll have to call you something." Yuno said. "What about Kali?"
"Kali?" She asked.
"Yeah, I think it's a strong and powerful name that suits a girl like you." Yuno exclaimed.
"I like it." Asta smiled.
"Kali… I like it to." She smiled putting her hands behind her back.
It was a short distance of walking from the village to the church, before they managed to reach the village.
"Asta, Yuno. What happened?" A nun asked, running up to them, coming out of the church, gasping when she saw them beaten up and bruised, before her sights were set on Kali. "Who's this?"
"Sister Lily, this is Kali. She's very strong and very powerful with her magic." Asta exclaimed. "She saved us from someone who was trying to steal Yuno's necklace, and would have killed me if she hadn't stopped him. She even turned his Grimoire into dust."
"Oh dear. Come inside, and explain it all, while I heal you up." Sister Lily said.
~Following Morning~
"All right. Since we need to prove whether Asta and Yuno were telling the truth about you, I've set up four training targets for you to hit with your magic." Father Orsi Orfai, exclaimed as he stood outside with Kali, and some of the other children, as well as Sister Lily. "When I say go, hit each one with a different element. Understood?"
"I think so." Kali said.
"Good, now GO." Orsi exclaimed.
Almost on instinct, Kali threw a different elemental attack at each of the dummies, in the order of water, turning into ice and encasing the first one. Earth, piercing the second one with a spike of stone. Fire, burning the third to cinders. Air, slicing up the final dummy with blades of air.
"Do you have anything a little more challenging?" Kali asked, looking to Orsi, who had a look of shock, and disbelief on his face.
"Okay, starting today, Kali is officially part of our little orphanage family." Orsi smiled.
"Yay." Some of the younger children cheered.
"Isn't that great Kali?" Asta called out, hugging her. "You're no longer alone."
"So, no more sleeping outside?" Kali asked.
"Nope." Orsi exclaimed.
"No more having to hunt for wild game?"
"Unless you want to." Sister Lily smiled.
"I can jump into a tub of water and scrub myself down with some of that bubbly stuff?"
"You mean take a bath, with soap?" Sister Lily asked. "Yes of course. Why don't we go do that for you right now? Maybe get you a change of clothes, while we're at it. I think we have some that could fit you. They're boy's clothes though."
"Okay." Kali smiled.
~Two Weeks Later~
"Kali, where are you? It's your turn to hang the laundry to dry." Sister Lily called.
"I already used wind magic to dry and fold it." Kali said, popping up behind her from the tree she was hiding in, scarring her.
"Oh, don't scare me like that you little trickster." Sister Lily exclaimed.
"Sorry, I just saw an opportunity, and I took it." Kali giggled.
"Kali." The duo turned to see Father Orsi coming over to them, a nervous look on his face. "There are, some Magic Knights here to speak with you sweetie."
"What could they want with me?" Kali questioned, hopping down from the tree.
"I don't know, but it's best we don't keep them waiting." Orsi stated.
"Alright." Kali said, following Orsi to the front of the church, where there were three Magic Knights, wearing Purple Orca robes, waiting for Orsi to bring Kali to them.
"I appreciate your patience gentlemen." Orsi exclaimed. "This is Kali. Go on dear, they wanted to speak with you about something."
"Is something wrong?" Kali asked stepping up to them.
"Are you the girl who can wield multiple elements of magic?" One of the Purple Orca men questioned.
"Yeah. I can use all four base elements of magic." Kali exclaimed.
"Grab her." The leader of the team ordered.
One of the Purple Orca's pulled out their Grimoire, and Kali suddenly found herself grabbed by multiple chains coming from the ground.
"What is the meaning of this?" Orsi questioned. "Let the girl go at once."
"Sorry Father, but this child is more valuable than you realize, and her power isn't something we wanna risk triggering when hauling her back to the capital." The leader of the group exclaimed.
"Let go of me. I'm not anyone's tool for profit." Kali shouted.
"Wrong. You're now property of the Purple Orcas." The man with the chains exclaimed.
"You can't do this to her." Father Orsi said, trying to get Kali free, only to be sucker punched by one of the three team members, sending him to the ground.
"We can and have."
"Father Orsi." Kali cried.
"LET HER GO."
Kali turned to see Asta running at the Magic Knights, at a really fast speed, and slammed his head right in the crotch of the Magic Knight who's chains she was wrapped up in. With a wheeze of pain, the Magic Knight fell to the ground, laying flat on his back, eyes rolled into the back of his head, with foam frothing from his mouth as Asta had hit him pretty hard in the groin. As the Magic Knight lost consciousness, the chains around Kali dissipated and out of muscle memory, she took to the air, covered in a milky white aura.
"If you want me, then come and get me. But leave the church out of this." Kali shouted.
Her shouting caused Sister Lily and the other children's attention to be drawn in their direction, and they ran to the front, just as Kali flew away.
"After her." The leader of the group shouted, kicking Asta away, before grabbing his fallen comrade and running to the broom he rode in on, with his still conscious comrade grabbing the third broom, taking off on his own.
"What do they want with Kali?" Sister Lily questioned.
"They wanted to make a profit from her." Orsi exclaimed clenching his fists, wiping the blood from his nose.
"Those scumbags. First thing I'm gonna do as the Wizard King is disband the Purple Orcas." Asta growled.
"But… what's gonna happen to Kali?" A young girl asked.
"I don't know Recca. But Kali is a strong warrior, she'll be fine on her own." Sister Lily said, comforting the girl. "Whatever happens, I pray that she'll be all right."
