Cloud Watching

A/N: So, my English teacher gave an assignment, and that assignment was to look at this picture, which was of a hill with trees on it during fall, so all of the leaves were orange, red, and yellow. But the thing that caught my eye was of the clouds, so what popped into my mind? None other than the Leaf Village's laziest, smartest, cloud loving, ninja, named Shikamaru. So this is what I wrote to fit the assignment. Hope you like it!

Disclaimer: as you can see by me writing this, I do not in any shape or form, own Naruto, nor will I ever.

On the other side of this hill was a young boy, about twelve or thirteen with his hair pulled back into a tight ponytail, laying on the hill side watching the clouds dance across the sky. He was relaxed, looking content, and simply just, thinking.

He was thinking of his missions, his friends, his sensei's, his family, his life in an essence. He was thinking of how his father like to drink a lot, when he does that is, and how he had to take care of his father. His father was very compliant when he was drunk, unlike when he wasn't. Shikaku Nara was a man that perplexed this young boy, for he puts up with the boys Mother's constant nagging, and constant work loads.

"Dad, why are you such a drag? I am either taking care of you or getting yelled at or lectured by you. Why are you so bothersome? Can't you be like other parents?" The young boy thought to himself.

That thought led him to another one of his friends. "Why am I complaining about my parents when Sauske and Naruto do not even have parents? Sauske's parents had been murdered, along with the whole family clan. His whole family had been murdered by older brother, Itachi, right in front of him, leaving him to live by him for five years now.

"And Naruto, he has never had his parents around. His mother died giving birth to him and his father was killed by the Nine-Tailed Fox that was attacking the Leaf Village. Then when the Nine-tailed Fox was finally defeated by the Fourth Hokage, and the Hokage needed somewhere to put the fox demon, so he sealed the fox demon into Naruto's body as a baby. Not only did Naruto have to live without parents, but he also had to live with the discrimination of the adults that knew truth about him, when he himself did not know until a little bit ago. The adult's children were isolating him because their parents had taught them to do so.

"So, by these standards, my life isn't all that bad, theirs is. And yet here I am complaining about my own life. What a drag," he thought to himself.

He looked back up to the clouds and sighed, "Why can't I be a cloud? They do nothing but flow through the sky. Being a person you have stuff to do, I just want to do nothing and sleep," he said aloud.

The young boy smiled as one of the clouds reminded him on Akamaru, his friend Kiba's dog, best friend, and partner during a fight. Kiba was a great ninja, just like the rest of his friends; however Akamaru was something the rest did not have. Akamaru was a very skilled dog that could shape shift into a form that looked like Kiba. Because Kiba had had Akamaru from a very young age, they understood each other and could talk to each other.

"I have some insane friends," the boy stated while still smiling.

A bunch of good times with he has had with Ino and Choji, who were the other genine in his squad led by Asuma Sensei; Sauske, Naruto, and Sakura in squad seven led my Kakashi Sensei; Gui Sensei's squad of Neji, Tenten, and the bushy browed Rocklee; and the last squad led by Kurenai Sensei, Kiba and of course Akamaru, Shino, and Henata was all that was going through his mind.

"Hey Shikamaru"'s and "Hey Shikamaru, what are you doing awake, aren't you normally asleep about now?" and many more memories flooded his mind.

The young boy named Shikamaru closed his eyes, smiled, and sighed, "They are insane, but I wouldn't change them for anything in the world." With those happy thoughts he rolled over onto his side and fell asleep peacefully
