[Two years after the Brevon Incident; two weeks after the destruction of the Bakunawa]

[Mobius, Chaos Dimension]

Mid‑morning, and a young pink hedgehog alights the train at Station Square Central in a white‑trimmed backless red skater dress and matching red boots with white stripes running heal and toe to cuff, white gloves with gold bangles, and a red headband trimmed with a yellow‑and‑blue brooch with two red‑tipped white feathers. Once a safe distance from the carriage, she looks up and down the platform, and sighs in disappointment. He said he'd be here… Maybe he's on the concourse? The hedgehog follows the sparse crowd down the stairs and looks all over the concourse, but still doesn't find who she's looking for. Outside maybe? The hedgehog heads out to the street, only to be disappointed once more. He promised he'd be waiting for me… I hope he's OK.

A moment later, her wrist communicator beeps. Curious, the hedgehog answers it. "Sonic?"

"Hey Ames," Sonic replies. "You're at Station Square?"

"I just arrived," Amy Rose replies. "I thought you'd be here already?"

"Sorry, but something came up," Sonic explains. "A horde of badniks invaded Westopolis, and the Chaotix called for backup."

"You promised you'd join me at Twinkle Park today," Amy reminds, already resigning herself to spending the rest of the day alone. "We made a date! I'm wearing the Warrior Feather, just like you asked!"

"Duty calls," Sonic replies.

"I guess if everyone else is busy elsewhere, it's OK," Amy accepts.

"Cream's with her mother, but the rest of the Freedom Fighters are here," Sonic informs.

"Wait… eight of you are fighting the bots?" Amy asks, starting to get angry.

"Yeah," Sonic confirms.

"How many bots are there?"

"About fifty."

That answer does not go down well. Fifty‽ I've taken on that many by myself before! "So, you could have joined me today?" Amy growls.

Sonic remains silent for a moment. "Gotta go!"

"Fine! I'll go to Twinkle Park by myself!" Amy snaps, but it's too late: the connection has already been terminated. He… He hung up on me! He's gonna pay for that! Furious, Amy storms down the road towards Twinkle Park, but stops halfway, turns around, and storms to a café instead, emerging a couple of minutes later with a chocolate milkshake.

For a few moments, she simply stands by the road, sipping the milkshake through a straw and watching the traffic go by while she figures out what to do next. I don't know what I expected, to be honest: he's always doing this, and like an idiot, I'm always giving him chances. Well, not anymore: if he really wants to be with me, then he can make the effort for once. And then I'll know whether I've wasted my time on him or not.

Suddenly, Amy's ears prick as she hears a vaguely familiar tune. That… That sounds like the Mystic Melody, but… wrong. Where's it coming from? Curious, she follows the sound, eventually ending up in an alleyway half a mile away, where she finds a ring of purple fire and electricity surrounding a maelstrom of colour. A Genesis Portal? Is this what the Melody was leading me to? I better report this to Nicole.

Before Amy can activate her communicator, a strong wind picks up, lifts Amy off her feet, and carries her straight into the Portal. An instant after she passes through, the Portal disappears with a loud pop, and the nearly‑finished milkshake hits the ground and rolls away.
