Haruka Tanaka stood outside of UA the day of the entrance exam. She didn't tell anyone in her family that she applied to UA. She didn't know what they would think. They gave mixed opinions on heroes, so she usually kept quiet about her thoughts on them. She had a unique quirk. One she knew she could help people with. She couldn't wait to show the school what she had to offer. She wanted nothing but to help people. As she started to go in, she noticed some people talking to each other. As she got closer to the door, she heard her name.
"Hey Haruka, wait up." A girl with short black hair and silver streaks in it ran up to her. "Ena, Asuga and I didn't know you applied to try and get into UA too."
"Sunako, I didn't tell anyone about wanting to come to UA. My parents aren't exactly Pro Hero. In fact, I don't know what they are. They always say that heroes are basically villains in disguise. Whatever that means, so for all I know they could be Pro Villain or even villains themselves."
"Maybe your parents are just-"
"Crazy. Yea, welcome to the club. At least you don't live with them."
"You know it isn't nice to call people that disagree with you crazy. People are allowed to have different opinions then you."
"Asuga Iida has entered the UA grounds everyone." The two girls laughed as a girl as a girl with dark blue hair walked over to them. "I never said I wasn't okay with people disagreeing with me. All I said was they think we are going to be paid villains in disguise. I don't know after the whole league of villains and hero killer things got weird in my house."
A girl with brown hair with purple streaks walked up to them. Ena Nishi who had a strong quirk. Natural disasters. It could be dangerous yet helpful. Asuga had engines like her brothers. Sunako's quirk was the undead. She could talk to them or bring them alive for a short period of time. There was soon an announcement from Present Mic telling everyone where to go. When they entered the room, the girls looked around. Ena gasped at the size of the room and how many people had come. Present Mic explained the exam to everyone. He explained how there would be something to ignore, and you would know when they saw it. When they got to the gates Haruka took a deep breath and tried to mentally prepare herself. The four girls wished each other luck before they entered. The UA Staff watched as the children started their exam. Haruka was the first to drop robots. Everyone stopped and stared at her for a minute before they continued. Present Mic stared at the screen in disbelief.
"How did she do that? I don't have siblings or children. That's my Quirk."
"Calm yourself Hizashi. It is her Quirk. It is quite a unique one in my opinion," Nezu informed him.
She touched the robots and went to find more. She let a group surround her before she stuck both her hands on the ground. She took a deep breath before they were shocked or covered in ice. She touched each robot before she heard the time limit. As larger robots approached her, she turned into an Asian black bear before she made herself larger than the robots. She started to tear the robots apart. There was soon an explosion, then screams. She didn't know what was wrong but if her friends were hurt, she had to help them. When she got to the area where the explosion had been there were Pro Heroes standing there with shirts that said villains on them. There were a few that had a shirt that said civilian on their shirts. She recognized all of them. She didn't see her friends. She wouldn't be able to fight them herself.
'Guys I need help over here. Big Villain situation going on. We are going to need more than the usual group.'
She loved her quirk it helped her out so much. The Pro Heroes in villain shirts stared at her. She created clones of herself, hoping the clones would distract them long enough. Red Riot went after one of her clones but when she tried to have it blast fire at him it burned up. She made a face and knew that she was showing her flaws. She was going to have one of her clones shock Uravity but it shocked itself and a few more. She just kept trying every quirk she could think of until she had herself and five clones left. She figured she was good at shape shifting so she would do that with herself. She went to shapeshift into a spotted leopard and turned into a mouse instead. She stared at the ground when she heard muffled laughter.
"So that is her flaw? When she is scared, or emotions get in the way she can't control her quirk. That is a pretty big obstacle for someone to work on."
"Indeed Shota, but it is an obstacle we all faced and still face."
Haruka covered her ears and started to cry. She ran out of ideas. She was going to fail her entrance exam. She soon felt someone pull her tail, holding her up. She soon felt her feet on someone's hand.
"You look absolutely ridiculous like that. How are you going to fight shaped like a mouse. C'mon I brought some friends."
"Sunako, I don't know if I'm cut out to be a hero. This is just the entrance exam and I messed up when it came to real people."
"Nonsense, you're one of the few people I know that are truly built to go Pro. Now let's go."
Sunako placed Haruka on the ground, and she turned back to herself. She changed her ears so she could make sure she heard what she thought she did. There was soon a shock a few feet away from the group and Invisible Girl dropped to the ground. Asuga ran towards Ingenium. Hurka laughed when she heard Asuga taunt her brother about who the better Iida was. Hurka froze a section in front of them and the civilians. Asuga still distracted Ingenium. She created a clone of herself before she teleported herself to the edge of the ice and shapeshifted into Eraser Head. As she walked out Ena created a small tornado to pick up the civilians. A boy created a mirage that made it appear that they never left.
"I can't believe you call yourselves Pro Heroes, you can't even beat a bunch of kids. You're giving yourselves, the school and me a bad name. Especially the son of the number one hero."
"Eraser Head, you're right but these are some tough kids with tough quirks." Shoto voiced.
"No excuse, do better. There are no excuses out there... You know I didn't think that would work but it sure fooled you guys. You think you'd know Eraser Head by now." Haruka turned back to herself, and Asuga ran in front of her. She used ice to freeze Ingeniums legs and engines. "Hey Tenya, I think you should cool down a bit."
Tenya slammed his head on the ground. Ena ran up to them and informed them that the hostages were safe. Haruka nodded at the boy, and he took his illusion away. She melted the ice to show the 'villain' group that they already saved the hostages. Sunako had the group surrounded by the undead. Another boy was slowly sneaking his way around and slowly touching the group's arms. There was soon an announcement from Present Mic saying that the time was up. Haruka sighed as she looked up. Tenya started to yell at her to unfreeze his Engines. She smiled as she melted the ice from his engines. The Pro Heroes told the group how well they did. The two boys introduced themselves to the girls. The boy who could create illusions was Daiki. The boy who had touched the 'villain' group's arms was Kanji. His quirk was time and for some parts of his quirk he had to touch the object. Everyone turned to her to see what her quirk was. She could tell she had clearly impressed people. The UA staff that didn't see her application stared at the screen to find out her quirk.
"Oh, umm I can use any quirk that is known. It is easier for me to use if I have seen it. I can also manipulate it to make it different than the original hero who uses the quirk. I can even use more than one at a time. I could demonstrate sometime."
Nezu turned to the other UA staff as they were talking about her quirk. That type of quirk was unheard of. It would be a huge benefit to have someone like Haruka attend UA. With all the negative press the school got during the war. People claimed that it never cared about its students. For a bit less applications came in. Some of the staff agreed that it would help to know how the young girl's quirk worked better. Nezu watched as the group started to leave. He along with the other UA staff left the observation room and went to look for them before they left. They were almost at the gate when Nezu yelled after them.
"Miss. Tanaka I was wondering if you would be so kind to demonstrate your quirk a bit more for us. We also have class 1A that previously graduated. Miss. Iida's brother was in that class. I hope you don't mind. Your friends may join the observation."
Haruka stared at the staff and wondered why they wanted to see more of her quirk. She looked down at the ground but looked up when she felt someone bump her. She turned to see Sunako nod in the direction of the staff. Asuga smiled while Ena gave her a thumbs up. She felt someone give her a slight nudge to see Kanji trying to get her to move her forward. Daiki told her to go for it. She looked at the hero Miss. Teleport as she smiled and nodded at her. She looked at the ground one final time before she nodded at Nezu. He showed how happy he was before he took the children to the arena, they usually held the UA games in. Haruka stood in the center while her friends went into the stands with everyone else. Haruka wasn't really a showoff, so she didn't know how she was going to do this. She made a list of all the quirks she wasn't good at in her head before she started. She started to form ice around her and float. When she floated out of the column, she covered the top and landed. She looked down at the ground before she placed her feet at the edge of the ice before she did a flip and teleported to the ground. She opened her mouth, but no one saw anything come out. They tilted their heads until they saw the ice shattered. She cloned herself soon, smashing the chunks of ice. Asuga turned to look at her brother's former classmates when she heard them talking. Stun Gun stood up and shocked everyone that didn't know what he was going to say with what he did say.
"If you're so good use Dark Shadow. That was a hard quirk for even Tsukuyomi to handle."
Asuga turned forward to see Haruka fall on her face. She made a face before she turned to her brother. The two started to quietly argue about what could happen. That he knew she wasn't good at every quirk. Tenya informed his sister that Haruka was a talented girl for someone who never went to school to train to be a hero. He thought she would make a great hero. Haruka turned to her friends and gave them an uncomfortable look. She heard a few more people shout Dark Shadow. She had made plans with quirks that would backfire on her but that doesn't mean she wanted to use them. She took a deep breath before she used Dark Shadow. A large shadow appeared behind her, and a slightly bigger shadow appeared in front of her. The two shadows combined in front of her. She looked up at the giant shadow as everyone gasped.
"Foolish girl, you learned nothing from our last encounter. This time I'll make sure you remember the lesson."
The shadow slammed into her and the two slammed into a wall. Asuga started yelling at Tenya as Haruka tried not to give into the shadow. Haruka made the two float as the shadow creeped up her arms. She sent a strong electric shock through her arms, hoping to push the shadow back a bit. She used jets to throw the two to the ground. The shadow soon moved up her legs, so she was having difficulty moving. She had to think of something fast or she would run into the same problem as last time. She teleported into the air and began to talk to herself. The shadow laughed at her, and she wondered if her idea would work. Erasure. The Dark Shadow disappeared, and she started to fall towards the ground. She closed her eyes as she fell. She had no energy left to try and use a different quirk. Miss. Teleport teleported up to her and safely got them back down. Asuga started to yell at Tenya, making everyone turn to watch.
"Tenya, you stupid idiot. Wait until mom and dad find out what you and your friends did to poor Haruka. I'm telling them as soon as I get home and I can't wait to see what they tell you at dinner tonight. You knew she couldn't control every quirk. She has the possibility to use them all. You knew what happened the last time she used some of the quirks from your class. You call yourself a hero, but no hero would let her go through that. I'm so disappointed in you."
"Shesh Tenya, your sister can be brutal," Ochaco voiced.
Tenya watched as his sister and her friends went to check on Haruka. He wondered if she was right. Haruka had all been strong but if she used a certain quirk she failed. Tenya knew Haruka had the potential to make it to the top ten before her thirties. Sunako and Asuga helped Haruka up as the three laughed. The children were informed they would get their letters that informed them if they made it or not within the next couple of days. Haruka nodded at the staff, but she knew the truth. She either messed up her chance or she had to intercept that letter. Chieko Okamoto, also known as Miss. Teleport, stared at Haruka as she left. Haruka turned when she felt someone staring at her. She turned to see Miss. Teleport staring at her. The Pro Hero smiled at her and gave her a small wave. She waved back before she turned around and tripped. She laughed a bit as she stood. Chieko jumped when Hizashi jumped in front of her. She shook her head a bit before she turned to look at the other staff. They would be making the video acceptance letters or rejection letters within the next day or so.
One Week Later
Haruka was starting to get discouraged about her acceptance into UA. She figured after her demonstration she had screwed any chance she had of getting in. She was walking home when she bumped into Miss. Teleport. She wondered what business the hero had on her street. It didn't look like there was a problem that would require a hero. When Miss. Teleport turned around, she held a letter out towards Haruka. She grabbed the letter and stared at it. She heard congratulations, making her look up. When she didn't see Miss. Teleport, she looked around. She pulled her phone out, opening the group chat between her new friends and old ones.
Emergency meeting at Iida's house. NOW!
She shoved the letter in her bag and ran home. She shouted that she had a school project and that she would be at Iida's house. Her phone buzzed in her pocket the whole way to Asuga's house. When she knocked on the door Tensei opened it. When Haruka saw Asuga, she started waving her letter in the air. Asuga squealed as she showed her letter. Tensei opened the door when he heard another knock. Sunako and Ena held their letters out in front of them. Before Tensei could close the door, he opened it again. The girls turned to see Daiki and Kanji with their letters. Tensei jokingly asked if that was everyone before he wished everyone luck. They all went to the family area to open the letters. They turned to Asuga to see if she got in. She opened her letter, and it was a video of Principal Nezu telling her she had been accepted into class 1A. It said that she had been accepted for the rescue and robots. Sunako's acceptance to class 1A was a video from Eraser Head. He explained that even with her type of quirk she still found a way to use it in the situation. Ena was another accepted in 1A. Eraser Head said she was limited with her quirk especially with helping during the rescue, but she found a way to help. Daiki was also accepted into class 1A. Ectoplasm informed him that his illusions helped him in every situation. Kanji and Haruka looked at each other and wondered if they would be accepted into class 1A like their friends or even go to UA. Kanji opened his letter for Principal Nezu to tell him he would be attending UA in class 1A. Haruka congratulated everyone before she turned her attention to her letter. Miss. Teleport's congratulations still rang in her ear. She wondered if that meant she got into UA. That didn't mean she got into 1A though. She felt someone bump her arm, making her shake her head before she took her fingers across the top of the letter. She opened the letter to see a video of Miss. Teleport appear.
"Miss. Tanaka, it is my pleasure to tell you that you have been accepted into class 1A at UA. The staff at UA believe you have the potential to make a great hero one day. You were a great leader in the rescue section of the exam. You were brave even as a mouse. Present Mic, Eraser Head and I know someone like that. You worked with other people well and you can handle your quirk. I as well as the other UA staff would like to welcome you."
"I... I got in. I didn't screw up my chance."
"Yea, but what are you going to do about your parents? Are they going to let you go?" Sunako asked.
Haruka turned to her friends. She didn't even think about that. Her parents weren't exactly Pro Hero so they most likely wouldn't be okay with her attending a hero course at UA. She tried to think of all the possibilities. Maybe they would still let her attend UA.
"You know I didn't think of that, but I guess I have to think about it. I'm sure the crazies won't go to the extreme, and they'll let me attend."
Sunako, Ena, and Haruka laughed as Asuga yelled at them. Daiki and Kanji started at the girls as they laughed. Mrs. Iida came to see what all the commotion was about. Everyone held up their acceptance letters. She congratulated the group, but Haruka didn't know if she should be celebrating quite yet. She still had to tell her parents she got into a hero course at UA. She didn't think she would be celebrating much of anything once she told them. She waved goodbye to everyone before she left. She held her acceptance letter tight as she walked home. She felt like someone was watching her but when she turned around no one was there. She was almost home when someone grabbed her bag. When the person pulled on her bag, she turned to pull back but saw her older brother.
"What the heck, Minato. You scared me half to death. I thought someone was trying to rob me or try to kidnap me."
"You don't have anything worth stealing and if someone did take you, they'd bring you back. You're too annoying to deal with even for a villain. Whatca got there? Let me see."
"Keep your hands off my stuff. It doesn't concern you anyway. It's between mom, dad, and I."
She pulled away from Minato and pulled her letter closer. She opened the door and yelled out for parents. When she didn't hear a response, she yelled out again. She heard her father's office door open before she heard a thud. The laundry room door slid open, and her mother appeared. They both appeared in the family room with her where she clenched the letter. Her mother, Kaida asked if she was okay. She felt her eyes burn before she turned and held the letter out towards them. They looked at the letter before they looked at her. They saw the UA symbol before they snatched the letter from her hand. Her father, Nao, opened the letter and the acceptance video appeared. When the video finished her father threw the letter to the ground. She heard a low growl, making her look up. She saw a set of paws coming towards her making her cover her face but before it could hit her, she heard a whimper. She looked up to see her sister, Kaiya had jumped in front of her. She noticed that she had turned into a bear. Before her sister started to growl, she told her to run. Haruka stared at Kaiya for a minute before what she said registered. She grabbed her bag and letter before she started to run. She opened the door, but Minato stood in front of her. He shifted into a clouded leopard. She knew he was going to play a game of cat and mouse, but this mouse wasn't going to get caught. He jumped towards her, but she teleported behind him before she started to run. He turned and started to chase her, and she tried to think of where to go. She screamed when she felt a sharp pain around her arm before she was yanked back. She sent an electric shock, but it hurt her just as much as it hurt Minato. She knew her only chance of surviving the fight was creating clones. She burned Minato's mouth making him let her go. She started to create clones as she ran. As Minato got closer, he started to take out clones. Just a few more blocks she told herself. She felt a sharp pain in her back before it started to feel wet. She soon heard a noise that a cat would make when it is in distress. She turned briefly to see her brother retreating towards their house. She turned the corner and knocked on the door. Asuga answered the door and started to ask her questions, but she didn't hear anything. She started to collapse but Asuga caught her.
"They freaked. They attacked me and Kaiya stepped in. I don't even know if she is alive. She told me to run, and I didn't know where to go. What if my sisters are dead?"
"Mom, Dad, call for an ambulance and the police! Tenya, we need Pro Heros at the Tanaka's house! It's okay Haruka. You're safe now. We got you."
(Author's Note: I wanted to write a story about a hero whose family was divided by their opinions on heroes. A story about a girl who wants to be a hero with a quirk that could be used for either evil or good. You'll see she does have more flaws than you think with her quirk, Final thing there is a reason Miss. Teleport is paying so much attention to her, and you'll find out in the coming chapters.
