It had been a long day of defeating creatures and saving lives, but it was over now, and it was time to rest.

Rory and Amelia had already gone to bed, leaving river and the Doctor by the TARDIS' controls to chat.

They talked about the usual things, what has happened that day, made jokes, but River brought up a new, normally untouched subject.

It came rather unexpectedly, after laughter and a short pause. River braced herself before saying,

"Susan Foreman, your granddaughter"

There was a short, uncomfortable pause before the Doctor finally said,

"Yeah, she's gone now... dead, with the rest of them... Why are you bringing her up?"

"Well," River began to explain "You had a family... back on Gallifrey before... the incident."

"Yeah," the Doctor began "and years after the... incident... I have a new one." He smiled as River Song grinned.

They stayed like that for a moment, gazing into each other's eyes, as their lips got closer and closer together, until finally, they merged.
