Across The Sea

Chapter 4

A/N: Hey Guys! I have a craving to write so I thought I'd give you a little update. Also, please leave any ideas for new stories in a review. Thank you and I'll see you guys at the bottom.

The Very Next Morning…

On the day of their first us TV appearance, George woke up still feeling awful. However, they hadn't come to America for nothing and he really didn't want to let his mates down. There was a knock on his door and he found it was Louise and Brian, checking up on him.

"How are you feeling?" Brian asked gently.

"Much better," George lied as convincingly as he could.

"You don't look any better," his sister said in concern.

"I agree, I'm going to take your temperature.

They found it to be resting at 102, which was still very high.

"George, I do not want you to lie about your health just for the show," Brian said sternly. "How are you really feeling?"

"Not very well," he admitted sheepishly. "But I really want to play the show later.

"George, you're still very ill," Brian replied soothingly. "I would love for you to be well and play the show but if that fever doesn't go down and your throat's swelling doesn't go down any, then you'll have to sit out for it."

"He's right, George," Louise said. "It's going to be awfully hard for you to sing with that throat,"

"But it's only the-"George was interrupted by a fit of croupy coughing-" Backing vocals," he finished weakly.

"Backing or lead, it doesn't matter," Brian said. "After what we just heard I'm not sure if you'll be able to play."

"I'm calling the doctor," Brian continued. "For now you just need to rest and don't worry about the show." With that he and Louise left the room to dispatch the doctor.

A few minutes later the other three boys entered the show.

"How are you doing George," Paul asked.

George sat up and struggled to answer through a coughing fit.

"Brian says, I might not be able to play tonight," he finally got out." " I'm really sorry guys,"

"How sick are you?" John asked with concern.

He walked over and felt George's forehead. "Your fever hasn't gone down," he commented sadly.

"No," George rasped. "Neither had the swelling in me throat," "But if I can get those down, I can play tonight."

"Geo, don't worry about the show," Ringo said, concern in his droopy blue eyes

"The doctor should be here soon," George said. "Hopefully he'll make it so I can play tonight.

The three boys bid him farewell and left the room to make room for the doctor.

"What do you think Doc," Brian inquired. "The boys have rehearsal in an hour and a half; will he be able to play?"

"I'm sorry," answered the doctor. "But he's just not well enough.

George just coughed sadly.

"What about the show tonight?" Brian asked.

"I don't know," The doctor replied…

Because there was still a chance he might be able to play, Brian had to call Neill Aspinall to fill in for him at rehearsal and explain everything to the boys.

"What do you mean he can't play," John said angrily. "This is the most important day of our lives.

Paul put an arm around John's shoulders and tried to calm him down.

"He's just too ill," Brian replied. "Neill Aspinall will fill in for him at the rehearsals and there is a small possibility he will be able to make the show tonight.

As John, Paul and Ringo went off with Neill to the rehearsals, it just felt weird. They didn't want to play without him…

A/N: Alright guys, next chapter is the big answer: Will George play or not? Please review.
