Here we go! This was for the Lyric and Line Challenge, with the song "Make You Feel My Love" by Adele, the quote "The past has no power over the present moment." from Eckhart Tolle, and the prompts "crescent moon" and "betrayal". Enjoy!
When she was just a little girl, and he was just another big brother, he'd told her tales of moonlight and werewolves, tickling her to make her giggle under a crescent moon. She'd loved him then, the innocent free affection of a little girl to her family.
When she entered Hogwarts, he'd been there at Kings Cross Station, wrapping his arms around her in a hug and taking the opportunity to tickle her one more time. Her laughter rang out clear and free and she loved him, in the way one loves a friend.
And then in third year, home for Christmas, she saw him kissing Victoire under the mistletoe and she felt a pang of jealousy and betrayal; after all, he was her Teddy, not Victoire's. And she loved him then, the confused and heartbroken love of a young woman realizing her affections weren't reciprocated.
From then she changed, grew more distant, colder, putting up walls to protect herself. And yet, as she watched Teddy and Victoire, fighting more and more often as the days went on, she couldn't help but love him; red-gold-blue-grey hair and ever-changing eyes that haunted her dreams and whispered words of love for her and not her cousin.
She was entering her seventh year at Hogwarts when Teddy and Victoire had split up, in a hurricane of angry words and sobbed retaliations. And, despite the fact that she should be on Victoire's side (because she was family) she couldn't help but be happy. And still she loved him, when his world was falling apart.
It was a frozen night in late December, two years after his breakup, when things finally came to their head. She was sitting on a snow bank near the Burrow, looking out over the frozen river, the light of a crescent moon reflecting the ice into diamond flashes when he came for her, heavy boots crunching in the snow.
"What do I have to do?" She asked, "I've tried so hard, for all these years."
"Tried what?" He murmured in reply, settling himself beside her, lanky legs sprawling in the whiteness.
"Teddy….I love you. I would do anything for you, anything at all. I want nothing more than to be with you forever. I've been waiting for you to realize it. Is there any hope for us?" With her last words she burst into the silent tears she'd held onto since she was thirteen.
He pulled her close, held her as he had when she was a little girl and dried her tears gently with his gloves. "Hush now, it's alright. Hermione always says that "The past has no power over the present moment." It'll be alright. I love you too; I was just too afraid, too worried about the ages."
She gasped; feeling and happiness flooding her in an overwhelming wave. She pressed her lips to his, wrapping herself tight around him with a smile.
"I love you Teddy Lupin."
"And I love you, Lily Luna."
