Is forever too much to ask? Chapter 4.
I hope you didn't have to wait as long for this update as you usually do, I wil be trying to get my chapters out faster as well as making them longer. I know all of you AsuCaga fans don't like Meyrin very much but you'll have to deal with quite a bit more AsuMey before this story gets to the AsuCaga.
Thank you to everybody who reviewed, I'm glad I surprised you all with my little plot twist but 'Things will get worse before they get better' - Quote Athrun Zala, Chapter 2, last line.
Many of you were glad to find out that Athrun had not intentionally cheated on Cagalli but some of you seem to be a bit confused as to how his memory loss came about. I hope this chapter will shed some light on that little piece of information.
Thank you to everybody who reviewed. And in reply to the comment about the Extended (You know who you are) You may just be onto something!
So without further ado, lets get on with the chapter!
Cagalli's POV
Cagalli walked through the doors of the large reception area of the hospital. It was a nice day and the sun was shining brightly, she though nothng could ruin her bad mood until she heard screaming from the man desk.
"If you don't tell me where Athrun Zala is then I swear I will get you fired!" A woman with redish pink hair -whom she recognised to be Meyrin Hawke- screamed at the woman on duty.
Just like that, her good mood went down the drain.
Pulling Cathryn along by the hand, she approached the angered woman. "Meyrin... I assume?" She said, tapping her on the shoulder.
Said woman pivoted round so fast she looked a little dizzy and narrowed her eyes at Cagalli. "Do I know you?!" she spat.
Cagalli rolled her eyes, "the names Cagalli, Would you like me to show where Athrun is?" she asked, trying to remain polite.
Immediatly Meyrin straightened a little and nodded at the blond woman. "Please," she said, almost pleading. Cagalli nodded at began to walk in the direction of Athrun's room, Cathryn following obediantly behind.
The walk was silent, the air not quite tense but not quite comfortable either. Stopping in front of the door labelled '2361 - Zala Athrun' Cagalli motioned for Meyrin to enter ahead of her.
Athrun's POV
He had been sitting and thinking quietly to himself when Meyrin entered the room, the peaceful silence that had previously engulfed the room immediatly shattered.
"ATHRUN! I'm so glad your okay! I was so worried when you disappeared from the reception and didn't call me." the red headed woman shouted, running over to the young man and throwing her arms around him.
Winded from the sudded attack, Athrun leant back and caught sight of something in his peripheral vision. A woman was leaning against the door watching the scene unfold, her eyes turned down and her mouth moving to form silent words.
He glanced down to see whom or what she was talking to and spotting a young child with blue hair beside her.
'Cagalli, Cathryn...' the thought was simple but Athrun thought he might have a heart attack upon spotting the woman and child. Meyrin was also present meaning that if she saw the child then he would have a lot of explaining to do... only he didn't even know how to explain the situation to himself yet.
He needn't have worried though because just seconds later the woman looked up, her gold eyes meeting his emerald ones and then turned and walked away from the room, the soft tap of leather shoes on linolium the only proof that she was ever there.
He turned his attention back to Meyrin, shaking his head lightly to try and dispell the images of the blond woman that had invaded his thoughts.
"I'm sorry I worried you, It's just been kind'a hectic these past few days and I guess I was just overwhelmed by it," He said and it wasn't a total lie, he just wasn't willing to discuss the sepcific events that had made the past few days hectic with his red headed wife.
It would hardly be good idea to bring up the fact that he had a five year old daughter with another woman and had never mentioned it before. Meyrin wasn't the best person at dealing with jealousy or rivalry.
Meyrin smiled softly, "Don't worry about it, I'm just glad that you're okay and nothing bad happened to you," she replied, sitting on the edge of the bed.
Cagalli's POV
Coming to the hospital had been a bad idea, only made worse by the fact that Meyrin had been there.
The only reason that she had gone in the first place was that Cathryn had been asking to see Athrun again. It made her heart break to keep denying her daughter the chance to see the father she never knew.
For the past few days all Cathryn had talked about was meeting her father. Ace on the other hand seemed to have become drawn and hardly spoke. She knew this was due to the fact that he could rememberhis father clearly and was upset, not only because he wasn't able to see his father but because he knew that the man wouldn't remember who he was.
As a child Ace had always been a daddys boy, following Athrun around and copying his every action to the point that he would cry when he had to go to work.
The bond they had shared had been strong and to have it suddenly ripped away from him had scarred him emotionally.
Just a year after Athrun had been cruelly torn away from them, he had realised that his father was not returning and stopped talking. It had scared Cagalli and she had tried getting him therapists but nothing had helped.
The loss of his father had affected him too greatly and all the doctors said was that Ace was purposefully locking away his words. He had to desire to speak if he could not speak to his father.
now, over four years later, he was still as silent as ever. He had learned to communicate with others in his own way.
Starting school had been difficult to him, because he didn't speak he wasn't able to communicate with the teachers or the other students. He had become more and more shy and introverted until finally his teacher had called her in to discuss it.
Since then, things had slowly improved but Ace was still shy and found it difficult to trust people that he had not grown up around.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Forever ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The drive home was silent and more than once, Cagalli glanced in the rearview mirror to see a sullen Cathryn looking blankly out of the window.
She had been looking forward to seeing her father.
"Cathryn sweetie, mommy will take you to see daddy tomorrow okay?" Cagalli asked quietly, not being able to stand the upset look on her daughters face.
The young girls expression brightened immeditaly, "Promise!?" she exclaimed. Cagalli smiled sweetly in response "Promise."
The rest of the journey home was more content as when they arrived at the house they were greeted by Myrna.
Walking into the entry way and gesturing for Cathryn to go and play, Cagalli turned to Myrna and asked, "How is he?" The smile fell from the housekeepers face, "Not so good, he hasn't eaten or drunk anything since the day before yesterday and now he's developed a slight fever so I've put him to bed."
Cagalli shook her head solemly, "I don't know what to do, I can't reveal any more that I already have to Athrun because heaven knows what they will do!" she shouted, leaning against the wall and wiping away the few tears that had managed to escape her eyes and begun to roll down her cheeks.
The housekeeper had nothing else to say and just watched as the young mother ascended the stairs towards her sick sons room.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Forever ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Seating herself at Ace's bedside, Cagalli put her hand to his forhead and sighed worriedly when she felt the heat emanating from it.
To think that things had gotten this out of hand in just a few days, before this she wouldn't have thought it possible.
'I can't help but wonder what our life would have been like if they hadn't interveened, would we have been a happy family? Would Ace have been a normal happy child who spoke all the time? and would Cathryn have grown up knowing the joys of having a full and loving family?' these where thoughts that plagued Cagalli's mind every hour of every day.
The what ifs tormented her to no end.
Ace had never been sick before and it worried her that his event had caused him to react in such a way. He had always been a physically healthy child despite his mental problems.
Though she was glad that she was able to meet with Athrun again, this was not the happy reunion that she had envisioned but still she was glad. She just wished that now he was in her life again, that he would be a part of their childrens lives also.
The thought that Athrun had been pumped with drugs and given therapy to ensure that he no longer had any memories of her, Ace or the baby she had been carrying at the time made her feel physically sick.
How could anybody do something so inhumane just to gain an extra soldier to fight a never ending war? It was pointless and it angered Cagalli that it had to be their lives that were rudely uprooted for the sake of power an vengance.
'I will find a way to make it work... I promise you thta day and I have no intentions of breaking that promise.'
Thank you for reading, please bear with me on the updates because I will be returning to school shortly and won't have as much time to update as usual.
Things to think about for this chapter:
How will Athrun break the news to Meyrin?
How will Ace react to seeing his father once again?
How will they react to Cagalli's disobediance?
With Cathryn becoming quickly attached, how will Cagalli stop Athrun from seeing her?
And thats about it for this chapter! Please leave me a review so that I know what you think.
Thank you also to anybody who has added my story to Follow/Fave.
