Disclaimer: Don't own the boys. But the angst chart on my wall, that's all mine. (I had to make a whole new one after this latest episode. Gosh.)

Spoilers: Season 8 spoilers (boy does that feel good to type)

Dean's not the only one keeping secrets. Surprise surprise. Double drabble because I just couldn't help myself.

These Things I'll Never Say

"You want some dinner?" Sam asked, holding a match against the pilot light and waiting for it to ignite. He hadn't been here in months, so it came as no surprise that the thing had blown out. They hadn't exactly picked Rufus' cabin for its appliances.

"Pass," came Dean's predictable response. Sam knew his brother could barely stand to be in the same room as him right now – was surprised Dean hadn't stormed out hours ago – and Sam couldn't blame him. He wouldn't be winning any sibling-of-the-year awards for his earlier performance.

(Welcome back, Dean. Has it been a year already? Boy, time sure does fly when you're having fun. But hey, good to see you're alive and all.)

He sighed, fingers absently tugging at his sleeve, a nervous habit he'd have to keep under wraps now that Dean was back.

Just tell him. He's your brother after all. He'll understand.

(Like hell he will.)

As much as Sam hated keeping secrets from Dean, he was taking this one to the grave. Better to have his brother think he never searched at all than the alternative.

He'll understand, the devil whispered again from the corner.

(No, Dean can never know.)
