Chapter Fifteen
A few more days passed. Both Venus and Kunzite spent the first half of their day with the advisers and captains and such in the back of the castle. The second half of their days, they would spend together. After lunch, they would chat a bit, and then head to the sparring area and put on a show for those around. Venus' theory was it was to keep in good practice, however it was more for fun. There wasn't often anyone that would spar with her, and when they did, she felt like they held back. Or, it was one of her sisters, and she knew them too well. Kunzite was not holding back, and it was exciting.
Normally, there was an audience, but today, they were the only two in the area.
Clang! Clang! Tiny sparks flew from the swords as they danced around the ring.
"Today," Venus blocked a strike, "I will be the victor!"
Kunzite blocked her attack and smirked before coming back around for another strike. "We shall see about that."
The match went on for what seemed like forever. Every time Venus thought she had him, he'd surprise her. She'd tried the past few days to learn his style, but his style, it turned out, was one that lacked much predictability. She couldn't anticipate what his next move was. It was frustrating and exhilarating at the same time. Her desire to figure it out was much less about the figuring out the puzzle than it was about winning. She wanted to win. She had to win. She was going to win.
At least, that's what she had planned. Somehow, he had managed to knock her sword from her hand, then threw his down and got into a defensive stance. "You ready for this?" he asked while wiping the sweat from his brow. She smirked and threw the first punch. He may have been bigger and stronger, but she was quicker. She tried to launch a surprise attack on him, but he anticipated it and grabbed her, the two of them tumbling to the ground.
Kunzite looked down on her with a smirk on his face. "I think, perhaps I am the victor once more?"
She smirked and tried to wiggle herself free. It was useless though. He had her pinned, and there was no getting loose. "So it would seem."
The features on his face softened, and he leaned in, taking her lips into his. A shiver went down her body. This was the first time in a very long time since she had been kissed on the lips. Far too long, she thought to herself as she felt his hands let go of her arms to explore the rest of her body, and her hands began to caress his.
Venus awoke the next morning in an unfamiliar bed, in an unfamiliar room. She knew where she was, it had been dark the night before, however. But there was no mistaking it. Her memories of the night prior were clear. She was in his room, in his bed, laying next to him. Naked.
She looked over to find Kunzite looking at her. She smiled and rubber her eyes. "How long have you been awake?"
"A while." He grinned.
"It's rude to stare, you know."
He leaned over and kissed her forehead. "Good morning." Then, he got up to get dressed.
Venus rolled to her side and watched him. There was a moment of silence before she spoke. Her tone was soft, and somewhat sad. "I have to leave tomorrow."
"Oh?"
"Mhm."
He pulled his shirt over his head and nodded. "Ah, that is right. The ball is the following day."
She nodded back. "You are still coming, right?"
He smiled as he buttoned his shirt. "Only if you promise to join me and not work the entire night. I would like to actually see my date."
"I think I can do that."
He smoothed his hair down and sat next to her on the bed. "Then, I think we're set." They spent a moment smiling at each other. Taking in where this had led them, and how happy they both were. Then, he placed a gentle kiss on her lips. "I think we should head to breakfast before anyone takes notice that you weren't in your room last night."
Venus felt her cheeks flush. "Right."
A/N: Sorry for the less than brilliant fighting scene and the lackluster conclusion. I know I've said it before, I'm just not the best at descriptive writing. I'll work on it. Just not on this project.
