AN: I'm the worst person ever. I just realized that I never uploaded the final chapter. It's been sitting on my hard drive for almost a year now. Sorry guys!
Chapter Six
"Derek?" JJ's voice rang out through the otherwise silent apartment. "Babe, I'm home!"
"In the kitchen!" He called back, placing the bottle of wine he had been pouring onto the table. He heard her kick off her shoes and drop her bag next to the door.
"Did you make dinner? It smells fantastic. What -." She stopped mid-stride when she noticed the sight in front of her. "Der?"
"I was planning on waiting until after dinner but my God, Jay… I can't wait." He shook his head as he took in her appearance. Without her impossibly high heels, her dress pants were a mile too long, her blouse was already untucked, bits of her mascara had started to wipe off, her hair was in a mess of waves from her trying to loosen it up after being in a tight ponytail all day and in Derek's opinion, she was perfect. "I had a speech prepared and I had practiced it all day, but I honestly cannot remember a single word. Right now, all I can think about is how beautiful you are and how happy you make me." He admitted honestly. "You're the only one who can get through to me on my worst days. I actually look forward to coming home after work because I get to come home to you now. I was lost, nowhere bound and you gave me direction, you gave me a purpose. No one has ever loved me the way you love me, Jay, no one. You let me in and taught me how to love, how to be the man I am now. And you've been patient with me the entire time; you've been honest, trusting… You've never asked for anything, anything more than my hand to hold. Our lives are full of darkness and sadness, but when I'm with you, that all disappears. When I look at you, I see my life, my future, my forever. Honestly, it scares me but haven't you ever wanted something so badly that it scared the hell out of you? It absolutely terrifies me, I worry that I won't be enough for you, but I want this anyway. I want to spend forever with you." Reaching into his pocket, he pulled out a small black box before dropping to one knee and looking up into her blue eyes. "I love you, JJ, and I will always love you. Will you marry me?"
"Der…" JJ whispered after a moment of silence, her hands covering her mouth in shock. "I… I… Really?"
Stifling a laugh, Derek smirked. "Yes, Jay, really."
"I mean… Really really?"
"Jay, I've never been more sure of anything in my life."
"Then… yes. Absolutely, yes." She told him, dropping her still entwined hands in front of her, letting the first of many tears fall. "Absolutely."
"Yeah?" He asked, a smile slowly growing across his face as he climbed to his feet.
"Yeah!" She nodded, laughing as she watched him slide the white gold diamond ring on her finger, tears of happiness falling down her face, before pulling him down to meet her in their first kiss as an engaged couple.
When she steals my heart again and doesn't even know it,
Yeah I live for little moments like that.
