True Love Never Forgets, Right?

A/N: Hey! It's me again. Long time no see. Its been a while since I last saw you all, but I just felt like revisiting this fan-fic. It was always one of my favorite, and I finally decided how I want to approach things. It took me a long time to figure out exactly how to approach this chapter. I almost wished I had made Mayumi a doctor instead of a lawyer, but It's too late to change that now. Anyhow I hope you enjoy!
Disclaimer: No I still do not own Fruits basket or its chars. I almost own Mayumi, Anishi, and Losan, but not quite, and for my returning fans, No, I do not own my toothbrush, but since the dogs (yes there are two now) have destroyed the toothbrush, they do not own it either anymore… the trash can does.
A/N #2: I just wish to apologize again for the long wait. I almost do not wish to say anything more, but I feel I owe it to my loyal fans to say that I cannot guarantee when my next chapter will come out. I am doing my best since I have gotten into writing again, but with work and school my extra time is fading into some distant memory. I apologize if the chars seem a little off, I am becoming reacquainted with them. Thank you again for being patient. Just so you know I am starting the next chapter right after I upload this one.
Chapter Two: Help
She had three hours before her flight left for Japan. Losan and Anishi had already left for work and would not be back for another six hours. By then she would be on the plane. She already told them she would be home late and to not wait up for her, so they probably wouldn't even start to worry about her until the morning. She pulled out her two suitcases from the back of her closet. She stared around her room one final time running through a mental checklist of everything. Nodding to herself, she walked out of her room, rolling her two suitcases behind her. She closed the door and looked sadly at the doors that led to her friends' rooms. She contemplated one final time if she should leave them a note, but shook her head. No. They were safer if she just disappeared.
Mayumi yawned as she plopped herself onto the couch of her new apartment. It was nice to be back in Japan. Lucky for her she never closed her bank account here or transferred the funds to her account in the States. She was certain Mitch didn't know about this one as she drew from her American account before and used this one more as a savings.
She sighed as she stretched out on the couch. She was ready for a nice long nap before starting to unpack.
She suddenly sat up as she heard the front door open. Her eyes widened as they met a pair of black eyes.
"Hello Mayumi." The man smiled and closed the door behind him. His typically shiny, slicked back hair seemed unkempt and a little longer then was his normal style, and it fell forward into his eyes. He brushed it back temporarily from his eyes, and as he did Mayumi caught sight of a symbol on his forehead: the Roman numeral 2, the sign of the Gemini.
Mayumi forced a smile. "Hello Jared. What? No housewarming present?"
Jared smiled a cold smile. "Oh don't worry. I have one right here." He pulled out a pocket knife from the front pocket of his jeans and opened it.
Mayumi stood suddenly and backed away from the door, tripping over one of her unpacked suitcases.
"Now now, Mayumi. It is rude to refuse a gift."
Jared walked over to Mayumi who was trying to find her feet again and untangle herself from the suitcases. He smiled coldly at her again as he grabbed her by the front of her shirt and tossed her back onto the couch. He then climbed atop her, straddling her waist and sitting down on her thighs to keep her where she was. He held the pocket knife before her eyes. Without thinking Mayumi swung hard and hit him across the face. Jared's head snapped to the side and his nose began to trickle blood. He smiled and looked back at her.
"Oh, good, I was hoping you'd put up a fight."
Mayumi was terrified. Jared could tell by her wide eyes and the slight tremble he felt coming from the body beneath him. He came at her with the knife; she managed to deflect the knife with her arms, earning many cuts along her arms. She grabbed his wrist and tried to wrestle the knife away, but he was stronger and she ended up getting a deep gash under her left eye.
"Why are you doing this Jared?" Mayumi cried out
"I'm trying to help you!" Jared spat back at her as smacked her hard across the left side of her face and stopped trying to assault her with the knife.
Mayumi looked up at him confused, tears pouring from her eyes and her left eye beginning to swell "Help me?"
"I'm helping the only way I can." Jared leaned down to whisper in her ear. "Mitch sent me here to kill you. It will take years for him to become suspicious. But he will come looking for you again when no new Cancer is born. I'm buying you time, for whatever good it will do in the long run."
"Why? Jared I don't understand."
Jared lifted his face from her ear so that he could smile at her, a kind smile. "Because you were happy here, May."
May didn't know how she knew it, but she knew Jared wasn't telling her the whole truth. "Jared, what aren't you- Ahg!" She screamed as Jared stabbed the knife into her right side.
Jared whispered in her ear as he held the knife in her side. "I shouldn't have hit any vital organs. If you put pressure on the wound and drive quickly, you should get to him before you bleed to death. He should be able to save you." He sat up and pulled the knife from her side. He got off of her and punched her in the stomach, knocking the wind out of her.
When she caught her breath she saw that he had tossed her some towels and a jacket, and he was walking out the door. She knew it was pointless to go after him or even note where he was going. The symbol on his forehead meant that he was the twin body of the Gemini, and when transformed back to his normal self the twin body would just disappear.
Mayumi grabbed the towels, folded them and pressed them against her side. She then tied the jacket around her waist as tight as she could. She then grabbed the keys to the rental she was using. She stumbled to and out the door, unconsciously closing the door behind her as she stumbled to the car. She got in the driver seat and started the car. She hurried to Shigure's place. She couldn't get to Hatori's place, and she didn't know if he would be at his office right know, it was late. Shigure was her best chance to live.
She pulled up to his place, honked the horn as she was getting out and stumbled to the door, not even bothering to turn off the car or close the door. Mayumi could barely see her vision was so blurred. Sleep sounded so good right now, but no...safety first. She was sweating, her pulse was racing and she was breathing fast as she stumbled toward the front door. She couldn't believe her body hadn't transformed from the stress. As she reached the door Shigure was opening it. He seemed ready to say something when he took in her state.
"Help me…..please." she managed to get out before she began to collapse and….
*poof!*
…then her world went dark.
