Chapter 20

Cars and debris flew threw the air, a red and blue hue around them. Occasionally, the room flashed brightly, and a wall or pillar would explode on impact.

And Karkat was completely helpless.

He ran around multi sized cars, trying to find his way around the room safely to the robbers van.

He had hoped that it had everything they had stolen.

A small car crashed in front of Karkat. He rolled out of the way.

Looking back, he noticed that both Eridan and Sollux were a few feet in the air, hovering with their respective color hue.

Eridan launched another attack, flooding the room with a white light again.

Sollux avoided it, using a van to help.

He immediately shot the van towards Eridan, who had just dodged it.

They were equally matched.

Karkat continued his journey down the rows of cars.

Upon reaching the van, he moved around to a safer side, away from the ongoing battle.

Karkat pulled the side door open.

He was greeted with a kick to the stomach.

Falling onto the car behind him, a female troll landed in front of him, easing back on her left ankle.

"What the...?" Karkat rubbed his head, pushing himself off the car.

"Stay down." The female troll ordered.

A three pronged trident stabbed the car between Karkat's neck.

Karkat reached down for his gun, but found that it was missing.

The female troll limped around the side of the van and stared at the impending battle.

"ERIDAN!" She screeched. "We have to get out of here NOW!"

Eridan planted his feet on the ground and slightly turned his head, so he was looking at Feferi and Sollux at the same time.

"Wwe're out of gas, remember?!" He yelled back.

"Feferi!?" Sollux noticed her, veering his attention off of Eridan.

Seeing his chance, Eridan turned and blasted a shot at Sollux.

The room lit up again.

Feferi sheilded her eyes.

"AAARGH!"

The room dimmed out, and Sollux was lying on the ground, gripping his shoulder in pain.

Mustard blood splattered out onto the floor.

"SOLLUX!" Feferi screamed, hobbling as fast as she could to him.

"Fef! Stay back!" Eridan charged up another attack with his wand.

Feferi wasnt fast enough to get to Sollux with the searing pain in her heel.

Sollux stood himself up.

He knew he was done for.

"SOLLUX! GET OUT OF THE WAY!" Feferi screeched.

The room lit up with a white light again.

Silence fell over the building as the light dimmed out.

Feferi stood in front of Eridan.

A huge, gaping hole in her chest.

Eridan trembled at the realization.

"FEF!"

He caught her as she fell to the ground, dropping his wand.

Sollux's eyes widened.

He fell to his knees, continuing to grip his severly wounded shoulder.

"Fef..." Eridan sobbed, keeping her body close to his. "*sniff* Don't die on me..."

Feferi half smiled through dying lips.

"I'm... sorry..." She muttered, taking her last breath.

Eridans tears turned into rage.

Snatching his wand off the ground, he jolted up, preparing another large attack.

Raising his wand in the air, he grunted loudly.

Sollux growled back at him.

Eridans was then taken right out of his hands.

A large female troll stood next to him, gripping Eridans wand.

"Kanaya?!" Karkat yelled from across the room, trying to squeeze out from Feferi's trident.

Kanaya snapped the wand in half and threw it on the ground.

"I don't think so." She grumbled to Eridans frightened face.

Sollux came up behind Eridan and handcuffed him.

"Fuck." Eridan growled.

"Kanaya..." Sollux immediatly went back to gripping his shoulder. "What happened to the other two?"

"I took care of them." She panted. "I got some other cops to take care of them."

Kanaya noticed Karkat trying to shimmy out of his position.

"Sollux. You go take him down to the car. I'll get Karkat and be right there."

Sollux nodded. He used his good arm to shove Eridan in the direction of the elevator.

Suddenly, Eridan bolted of in a different direction.

"HEY!" Sollux yelled, pulling out his handgun. "HOLD IT!"

Eridan got to the very far side, where the wall opened up with a glassless window.

He quickly sat down on in and pushed himself out of the room...

And into a three story drop.

Sollux ran over and looked out onto the street where he was gonna land.

"Thhit." He muttered, running towards the elevator again.

Down at the street, Eridan landed in a pile of large pillows and a matress.

"OHMFF." He groaned.

"Are you alright there, Ampurra?"

"You could havve gotten somethin softer." Eridan sat up in the back of the truck.

"Where is Feferi?"

He lowered his head.

"Vvris and Gam wwere caught."

"Oh dear..."

Nepeta turned in her seat.

"Come on, Equius." She sighed. "We don't want the cops after us now."

Equius turned the truck on.

"Lets be off then!" Nepeta buckled her seatbelt as the truck rolled out of the street corner and onto the main road.

"In other news, police officers have caught two of the six robbers that have robbed every bank in the area. It has been claimed that one has been killed. This means that three others are still on the loose,

If you see one of these three people, conta-"

Sollux shut the tv off.

He sat alone in the hospital bed, staring at nothing but news for the last twenty-seven hours.

Still wondering how they could have gotten away.

The door opened.

"Hey there, Captain." Karkat peaked through the doorframe. "Feeling better?"

"Jutht a little." Sollux half smiled.

"The nurse said you would be back in action after about a week. And we still have a chance to find the other three."

"That'th good."

The room filled with silence.

"Do you ever wonder why we do thith?" Sollux asked.

"Our job? Because the city needs order-"

"Yeah, I know. But what if everyone jutht... thought about consequences and reprecussions."

Silence.

"Then we would have jobs now would we." Karkat smiled.

Sollux chuckled.

"I gueth not..."
