Beta's Note: Sorry, technical problems.
It had been almost a week since the audition; Bella knew that these things take time, but it she was desperate to hear any kind of news. Why was Alice taking so long? At the end of class Bella confronted her, "Hey, Mrs Cullen…"
"It's still 'Miss' Cullen." She smiled sweetly when she saw the source of the voice was Bella, "What can I help you with, Bella?"
"Oh… I was just wondering if you knew when… when we get to see the cast list?"
"Well I'm glad to see you're so excited… but it's kind of tough call still for a couple of parts…" Bella looked down. "Tell you what; I'll try to have one up tomorrow."
"Thank you Miss Cullen." Bella beamed at her as she walked out of the class room. She had done very poorly in her audition, but was still holding out hope. At this point having any lines would be wonderful, but Bella was secretly hoping for the lead role; Adelaide. She had been listening to the Broadway cast for as long as she could remember, and she'd been singing along for nearly that long. Dear reader, it is not common for someone to achieve a childhood dream, but for one to achieve such a feat while one is still in their childhood (Albeit the end of their childhood)is a rare and wonderful thing; and as Bella walked out of that room she felt an air of optimism overwhelm her. She knew she would get something. Maybe not her dream role, but definitely something.
"So, how was school today?" Charlie asked Bella from the other side of his newspaper.
"Oh, you know, same old." Bella wasn't in a very talkative mood, instead opting to eat her dinner at a heightened pace. "I still don't know if I'm in the play though."
"Oh well, you'll find out soon enough."
"Mrs Cullen said it'd probably be tomorrow." She swallowed the last of the casserole and jumped down from the table.
"Aren't you forgetting something, little lady?" Charlie looked at her with an indefatigable resolve.
Bella almost subconsciously rolled her eyes, "May I be excused?"
Her father smiled. "Yes, you may." Bella did an awkward curtsy and departed. Charlie's eyes followed her for a moment before he ultimately returned them to his newspaper. He had been attempting to instil a concept of chivalry into his oft ill-mannered daughter because, as he often thought, there is no substitute for etiquette.
Bella was sitting at her makeshift desk. She had a small amount of math homework to complete and she would not let it ruin more of her evening than it already had. Bella had never really had a good head for numbers, but she knew enough to get her through the evening. After that she had been tasked with completing another drawing for Alice's art class. "Draw the first thing that pops into your head when you think of love in the style of Picasso." Bella was almost afraid of this assignment; she had been deliberately avoiding it for fear of messing it up. You see, dear reader, Bella had never felt love before. She had been loved, by her parents, by her friends, but never had she felt love. She hadn't held someone's hand and thought that in this moment nothing else mattered. Indeed, the closest thing that she had ever had to a 'boyfriend' before was her best friend from the third grade. Jacob… She thought that was his name although, to be fair, it had been a long time ago. He had taken her behind the school house and kissed her, but being a very young girl at the time she did want to kiss this young man. Instead she had moved her head out of the way just in the nick of time, causing him to kiss her cheek instead. To this day Bella hadn't had her first kiss; let alone her first anything else.
Bella had been staring at her blank sheet of paper for almost fifteen minutes now; why was it that nothing came to mind? Could she turn in a blank paper and tell Alice that she had never been in love? Would she accept it, or would she look at her with disappointment and say "You know you can do much better." No… Bella would need to try. She started drawing, but didn't know what it was yet.
After a few moments she realized what she was drawing, a violin. Then, almost like magic, the music started again. Almost every night since she had moved here Bella had heard the music, but tonight it was different. More beautiful? No. More lively? Yes… that was it. Tonight the music was far more energetic… Bella was drawn to it now, enchanted by it. She walked out onto the awning and climbed down to the ground, walking ever closer and closer to the source. This time she was sure of it, the sound was coming from the abandoned chapel tower.
Bella ran barefoot through the wet grass to the decaying building, the sound of the violin growing louder and louder in her ears until finally she was standing at the white picket fence that surrounded the building. Sure enough, she could see the silhouette of a young man playing the violin at the top of the tower. Bella didn't say anything, she just watched him. She couldn't see who it was, but somehow his silhouette seemed familiar. Then, all of a sudden the music stopped. The boy in the tower had seen her. In a moment of panic Bella jumped the fence and attempted to reach him. She threw the doors open just in time to see the young man run around a corner and out the back door. Bella ran to the door and saw him disappearing across the tree line into the depths of the woods. Just as she was about to give up all hope she noticed that he had dropped something; the bow of his violin.
