I woke up with the sun on my face, I was lying in bed covered with thin sheets. Realizing I was lying on my back, I flipped over to my left side to find the Doctor lying in bed next to me. I looked around and noticed we were in my room. What were we doing back? Last time I remember we were in the TARDIS with Marissa, speaking of which, where was she? I shook the Doctor to wake him up.
"Doctor, why are we back home? Last thing I remember was that we were back in the TARDIS." I asked as I stretched and did my infamous obnoxious yawn. The Doctor rubbed his eyes and stretched as well. He was in his colorful stripped pajamas.
"Well good morning love." He said with a smile. He acted like he had no idea what I was talking about.
"What's a TARDIS?" The Doctor asked.
"Are you kidding me Doctor?" I didn't know what was going on either.
"Why are you keep calling me Doctor? My name is John remember?" The Doctor asked. What was going on? The Doctor stripped the bed covers off and stood.
"Time to get Renee up!" He said cheerfully.
"Who's Renee?" I asked as I sat up and stared at the clock.
"Seriously? She's our daughter. How many drinks did you have last night love?" The Doctor asked as he walked out. My mind was going out of control, what's happening? I walked to the door and watched the Doctor walk over to my brother's room. He opened the door and had a huge smile on his face.
"Rise and shine sweetie!" He said cheerfully.
"Dad really? I'm fifteen you know? I can get up myself." A young female voice called in the room. The Doctor closed the door again and walked back over with a huge grin. He got changed into the brown suit that he usually wore. He gave me a kiss on the cheek and went downstairs. Standing there confused, I decided to try and contact the Doctor with my mind. I called his name over and over again, so far there was no answer.
"Darling?" The Doctor's voice echoed in my head. I told him everything that was going on.
"That's weird because you're here with us in the TARDIS, but you're sleeping. You just collapsed when we were leaving New York." The Doctor explained. It sounded like he was going to panic. Suddenly, the girl who was supposedly my daughter came in. She had the Doctor's brown hair and my hazel eyes. Her cheeks were perfectly round. Her shoulder length hair was going all over the place and she looked like a zombie with circles under her eyes. She was wearing light blue silk pajamas that had yellow and white stars all over. Those were the exact same pajamas that I wore.
"Dad wants to know what you want for breakfast." Renee asked with her high pitched voice distorted. You could tell that she had a little bit of the Doctor's British accent.
"An egg sandwich?" I answered. Renee shrugged her shoulders and yelled down to the Doctor. I went back into trying to contact the other Doctor, There was no reply. Giving up, I decided to go downstairs and join them. The kitchen was the same as my old house. The only thing is that my parents weren't there, nor was my dog. Renee sat in the chair that I would normally sit in and the Doctor was at the stove cooking up some eggs, the sizzling from the pan echoed through the house. I didn't feel like getting changed and decided to sit on the couch after I ate the delicious eggs. I closed my eyes and when I opened them, I was back inside the TARDIS. The Doctor had one hand behind my head as in place of a pillow. Marissa was on the opposite side of me looking worried. Her hair was pulled back into a high ponytail. I looked around the control room and swayed as if I was drunk. I observed what I was wearing, I was no longer in those comfortable pajamas. I was wearing my skinny jeans, a grey t-shirt and a hat. On my feet, I was wearing my black high top converse instead of nothing. I blinked a few times to adjust my sight. The Doctor lifted me a little bit so that I was sitting.
"Are you alright love?" He asked as he rubbed my shoulders. I was so confused at the moment. I observed the TARDIS again and realized that it was dark and cold. The power was out for I could feel the cold air from space drifting in.
"What happened while I was out?" I asked as I tried to stand.
"Well the TARDIS shut down by itself and we don't know why." Marissa answered. The Doctor pulled me close and held me tightly.
"I thought something bad happened to you." The Doctor whispered in my ear. I hugged him back. The three of us stood there for a while. The Doctor left for a few minutes and grabbed two blankets. One was solid green and the other was plaid navy blue. He handed the green one to Marissa and wrapped the other one around my shoulders. With his arms and the blanket there was no way I could freeze. We decided to sit under the controls and wait it out, to see if the power would come back. After for what seemed like hours, a strange man appeared. He had a round belly and was almost as short as me. The Doctor stood up and stood in front of Marissa and me protectively.
"Aw, isn't that sweet?" The man asked. He had a very husky voice that sounded eerie.
"Did you enjoy it sweetheart? Did you like the family I gave you?" The man asked smiling. The Doctor walked towards the man suspiciously and observed him. Suddenly, the man grabbed the Doctor's neck and started to tighten his grip as the Doctor struggled to get free. The weird man calmed the Doctor down by patting his head.
"Now, now. This doesn't have to end badly. I want to make a deal, or a bargain." The weird man said. I looked at Marissa with worry.
"If one of you come with me, I'll gladly let the Doctor go, if not, I'll kill him with just one crack of the neck." The man laughed as the Doctor tried to get free. I turned to Marissa again and stared at her for a long time. She turned back to the weird man. The Doctor's arms were flailing everywhere.
"Why do you want my girls?" The Doctor asked. The weird man turned to me.
"There's one I want in particular, you." He pointed at me and I winced.
"She's mine, you can't have her, you can't have any of them!" The Doctor threatened. He still couldn't get free.
"Fine then, I'll make another deal. I'm like this dream lord if you say. That's how I put 'you're' girl in this other world. Anyway, lets say I put you two in the other world, you would have to guess which is real, this one or that one." The dream lord offered. The Doctor stopped struggling.
"If we get it correctly, would you let us go?" Marissa asked. I could tell that her body was tense. I turned to the Doctor who was still in the dream lord's grasp. The dream lord had a devious grin.
"Maybe." With that, the Doctor's eyes closed and the dream lord let the Doctor plop to the ground like a rag doll. I ran over to the Doctor as fast as I could but before I could reach him, my eyes closed and I fell onto something soft. I opened my eyes and found myself on my bed. The lights were off and everything was quiet.
"Doctor?" I called as I sat up on my bed. I observed myself and noticed I was wearing a brown sweater with blue jeans and brown boots that had fur on them. My hair was apparently straightened. I walked downstairs to the kitchen and found Renee drawing something in her sketchbook.
"Renee, where's your father?" I asked. She looked up from her drawing and smiled.
"He's at work right now, but I believe he should be home soon. Why what's wrong?" She cocked her head to the side, her now perfectly straight hair moved slightly.
"Oh nothing's wrong, I was just curious." I walked over to the stove clock and noticed that it was three in the afternoon. I then sat at the small brown table next to Renee.
"Sweetie, did we ever tell you how the two of us met?" I asked while placing my hand on her shoulder.
"Hm. What I remember is you two met at a bar. You said that dad drank too much and he plopped in front of you on your way to the door. You offered him a ride home and you two have been together since I believe." It was similar to how we met in real life, Renee nodded and went back to her masterpiece. It seemed to be the drawing a pocket watch with a weird symbol on it. It looked like the watch the Doctor used when he turned human!
"That's really good Renee, what made you think of that?" I asked as I looked over her shoulder. Suddenly, the Doctor came tumbling down the stairs with one of his hands over his forehead. He was still wearing the blue suit from before.
"Oh, I thought you were at work dad!" Renee said surprised. The Doctor walked over to me and placed his hand on my shoulder. He noticed the drawing.
"That's really good, uh" the Doctor looked at me.
"Renee" I whispered.
"Renee. Say, what made you wanting to draw that?" He asked as he politely took the sketchpad from Renee.
"You too? Well I guess it came to me in a dream." She said a little confused. The Doctor gave it back to her and looked at me with a determined look. He grabbed my arm and pulled me into the front room and we stood in front of the small square, black tv.
"Who is that?" He asked softly.
"She's apparently our daughter." I whispered back. The Doctor looked at me with shock, mesmerized and worried filled eyes.
"Our daughter?" He asked as he paced back and forth.
"She's beautiful." He gasped. I smiled and grabbed his cheeks.
"I know right? Can you imagine if we actually had a daughter and that's what she would look like?" I asked. His eyes turned to sadness as he grabbed my hands and took them off his cheeks.
"That would never happen. Even though I desperately want to mate, I just won't have the time to raise a family." He said sadly. I placed my right hand back onto his right cheek and stroke it.
"She's not our real daughter Jade, we shouldn't get too caught up in this fantasy. That dream lord or whatever his name was, he wants us to think of which reality is real. It's definitely not this one." He spoke so coldly. How could he say that about Renee? She looked like us. Who cares if she wasn't our real daughter? I'll treat her like she is. After calming down, the two of us went back to our fake daughter. I shouldn't call her fake, it didn't seem right, even if she was a figment of our imagination. The Doctor placed his arm around my shoulder as we walked back to the kitchen. We saw Renee looking out the big window.
"Mom, dad. What are those things outside our house?" She asked pointing to the window. All three of us walked towards it. The Doctor gasped and pushed Renee and I away so that we weren't in plain view of the window. I peeked over the edge and saw a Dalek and some other weird creature wearing a blue suit of armor. It's head was round and the color looked like rotting skin. The Doctor held us protectively in his arms. Even though Renee wasn't our real daughter, he still had the need to protect her as if she was our real daughter. I was glad but didn't get why his mood suddenly changed.
"I'm going to distract them and you guys better run out to the field you hear me? Don't look back." The Doctor said while holding our hands. I couldn't leave my Doctor, not to save my own life. With that he kissed both of us and turned to Renee.
"You listen to your mother you here?" He asked. Renee was crying out of control.
"I love you dad please don't go, stay with us!" She cried. The Doctor turned to me.
"If you die in this world, what will happen to you in the other one?" I asked almost crying.
"Even though I said this reality was fake, I'm not entirely sure. So how do we even know this is the real one?" He asked and with that, the Doctor stood up and yelled at us to go. I heard gun fire as I tried to open the door as fast as I could. I turned to see the Doctor fall to the ground. He turned in time to see me, his eyes squinting, trying to stay open. I turned to Renee.
"I'm going back to get your father, you run to the field as fast as you can you hear me? We'll be right behind you." I kissed my daughter's forehead and ran back to the Doctor. He was closer to the ground this time. I helped him sit up but then quickly pushed him down as the Dalek's laser came through the window. The Doctor was panting out of control, I looked to see the left side of his blue suit soaked with his blood and a piece of glass sticking out. I started to panic not knowing what to do.
"Go without me, protect our daughter!" He shouted. Disobeying him, I wrapped his arm around my shoulders and dragged him along.
"I thought you didn't think of her as our daughter?" I asked. He didn't answer, he was probably preoccupied with the wound that was causing so much pain. Thankfully, the monster's aiming was really bad and missed us every time, long enough so we could reach the glass door. I could see Renee in the field, running towards the neighborhood across the field. In this world, there was no pool and no fence which made it easier to escape.
"Renee!" I screamed at the top of my lungs. The Doctor was getting too heavy and I found myself falling to the ground with exhaustion. The Doctor was still breathing heavily. I heard footsteps coming towards us and saw our daughter running. The Doctor lifted himself up.
"Listen to me. You are to run as you have never ran before." The Doctor panted. Behind us I could hear the Dalek saying "exterminate." I knew what the Doctor was going to do. I hugged him as tight as I could.
"I'll see you in a little while." I whispered in his ear. I slowly unwrapped my arms around him and grabbed Renee's hand. The two of us ran to these bushes far enough where the monsters couldn't see us, but we were able to see what was going on. The Doctor struggled to stand, multiple times he fell to the ground because of the pain that was overwhelming him. The Dalek was coming closer to him. The Doctor was finally able to stand and stared at the Dalek. Everything was silent accept for Renee crying out of control.
"Why are these monsters after dad? What did he do?" Renee asked gasping. I continued to watch the love of my life standing in front of the one thing that was determined to kill him. Suddenly, a flash of light flashed and I heard the Doctor scream in pain. I never heard him scream like that before. With that, the Dalek decided to roll away as if nothing happened. When it was clear, I ran to the Doctor, hopefully in time. I could tell by the look on his face that he was angry at me for coming back. The laser didn't make a wound but I could tell that it did some damage. The other wound was still huge, was this the end of my time lord?
"Dad, why do these monsters want to kill you?" Renee asked. The Doctor smiled and stroke her cheek.
"Because your dad is a time lord. I could travel anywhere in time, I took your mother on amazing adventures didn't I sweetheart?" He asked smiling at me. He was gasping for air, I could tell that he wasn't going to last long. I nodded responding to his question.
"Survive this for me dad, so you can take me to the future!" Renee sobbed. I started to rub her shoulder. The Doctor smiled and winced once.
"You may not be my real daughter, but I'd be proud of you if you were." The Doctor gasped. He turned to me and smiled my favorite smile. With that, his eyes closed and Renee sobbed. This wasn't the real world, the Doctor wasn't in it. Renee continued to cry over her dad's dead body. I sat there with no emotion. I was going to see my time lord again, I knew I was. I closed my eyes and I was suddenly, back in the TARDIS. I turned to find the Doctor sleeping next to me, looking lifeless. Marissa was no where to be found. I shook the Doctor constantly but he didn't move, I was starting to panic. Suddenly, the Doctor's body started to move. His beautiful brown eyes slowly opened and he smiled. I placed my hand on his cheek. He slowly sat up and started to breathe heavily.
"I thought I lost you Doctor. When you didn't move at first I thought you were..."
"Darling, did you honestly think that would've killed me off? Please!" The Doctor chuckled. I gave him a big hug and felt protected in his big arms.
"Where's Marissa?" The Doctor asked. I shrugged my shoulders and looked around the control room. The Doctor stood up and grabbed my hand. He dragged me along the mysterious corridors of the TARDIS. Suddenly, I was by myself. I looked frantically around calling for the Doctor. In the distance I heard echoing laughter. The dream lord appeared with Marissa. Her hands were tied with ropes. She seemed to have bruises in her cheeks. Did he beat her?
"Doctor!" I shouted at the top of my lungs. The dream lord laughed.
"He can't hear you sweetheart." He chuckled as he pushed Marissa to the ground. I suddenly heard footsteps and the Doctor came around the corner. He stood right in front of me.
"Doctor help us! Marissa and I are right here!" I shouted. He continued to have a worried look in his face.
"Jade?" He called. He started to panic. I grabbed his face and tried to shake him.
"Doctor! I'm right here!" I called. He walked forward as if he didn't hear me.
"Darling where are you?" He shouted, it almost sounded like he was on the brink of tears. I turned to Marissa. She had a worried look too, what was going to happen to us now? I turned to the dream lord who seemed to be enjoying this.
"Jade, Marissa! Where are you girls?" He came back and stood in the middle of the hallway and placed his hand over his two hearts.
"I can feel you guys!" I said looking down at the metal floor. The Doctor turned to Marissa, he was looking right at her. She looked up at him too, with worried eyes. I looked at the dream lord.
"Alright, I had enough fun!" The dream lord waved his arm and the Doctor gasped at the sight of Marissa, did he notice the scars on her face? He kneeled down and hugged Marissa tightly.
"Are you alright?" He asked. Marissa nodded and turned to me, the Doctor did the same. His eye brows arched and he smiled. I ran to him and gave him and Marissa a group hug. There was a moment of silence.
"Why are you doing this to us? What did you to my girl Marissa?" The Doctor asked still holding on to us.
"I just messed around with her a little bit and I told her to keep her mouth shut if she wants you two to stay alive. For a reason, I wanted to see if you were worthy." The dream lord smiled.
"Worthy of what?" I asked. The dream lord still had a smile on his face.
"To see if you were worthy of being time travelers and don't worry, you all passed the test." The dream lord laughed. The Doctor stood up and pointed his finger at the dream lord.
"This isn't right, torturing us like that!" He said almost shouting. Marissa and I stared at him and the dream lord.
"We'll I can obviously see you would do anything for each other. I'm done with this Doctor. Maybe I'll see you again." With that, the dream lord vanished the three of us were left alone. The TARDIS' power was back on and the three of us sighed in relief. We all looked at each other and I bet we thought the same thing, this was one of the weirdest experience we ever had and that it was finally over. After settling down, I thought about the girl who represented our daughter and what future the three of us would have together. The Doctor said he wouldn't have time to raise a family but the three of us could've traveled together. Even though it was a family that would never be, I knew the Doctor would've loved it.
