DragonShifter: Okay, Due to circumstances, I may be writing this story with both WordPad and Word 2010. Not that that is bad, for I am fine either way. Anyway, I thank you guys for your reviews and for your story suggestions. Adding a female to go with Holmes is a most excellent idea. However, I am not very good at romanticism, so that may not be an option. However, I just may include a female character to go with Holmes, but it may take a bit to set up, so please go along with me.
Sherlock Holmes had his ear pressed up against the wall in the dining room. The wall that separated the dining room from the parlor was thin. When Holmes found that out, he utilized it when Watson had guests and clients over. He did that from time to time, or rather had been doing it from time to time since he officially moved into Watson's home. It provided him of what was going on in the world from varying perspectives. Some of the cases that were brought to Watson were mildly amusing, and others somewhat intriguing. Of course, Holmes helped Watson when he asked for it, but that was not always the case. Holmes had found himself a job at a bookshop as a shelver, with the owner none the wiser about who Holmes really was. Holmes had gone the shop under disguise. It was a decent job, and Holmes found he liked it. Rather ordinary, compared to being a consulting detective.
Holmes was content with the job, for he still did some detecting with Watson. Which, lead him to listen in to the case that was brought to Watson from time to time. The case currently being presented was a rather intriguing one. A girl of Twenty-One had come to Watson asking if he would be willing to help her find a close friend that had disappeared some six months previous. She was worried something had happened to him. Watson agreed to help her, provided she provided him with details of her friend. It was silent for a few minutes, and then a very quiet whisper sounded. Watson came out of the room and knocked on the closet door. Holmes opened the door a crack and saw Watson holding up a picture. Holmes pushed the door open more and gasped as he saw the picture better. "Did the girl give a name?" Watson turned the picture over. There was a note on the back, addressed to a Winnifred Holmes. "Oh my" Holmes said in a Un-Holmes like hush. "Winnie….." Holmes went silent. Watson had to clear his throat for Holmes to look at him. "Who is she Holmes?"
"Well, you could say that she is a distant cousin, who happens to have been disowned by her family."
"And you know this how?"
"Well, I was there when she was disowned. It was my fault it happened. Her parents knew me, and considered my behavior most…. disturbing, and requested that I be most civilized and normal. Unfortunately, I saw that she was very intelligent, which got her in trouble at school. She learned more about me, her parents being none the wiser about it. I figured she was up to something, after a month of my stay. One night she said something at dinner, which made her parents aware of her activities concerning me. It took them a day to make their decision to disown her."
Watson gasped so little time he thought. "How old was she when this happened?"
"She was thirteen years old. When it happened, I felt responsible and took her under my wing. I provided for her the best I could and raised her to be a lady, yet a lady that knew of the world and knew how to use her mind."
"You mean how to use her mind like you do?"
"Not exactly, I told her that she needed to go to school, and in exchange, I would help her to harness her mind to be useful in any profession she wished."
"What profession did she choose?"
"She chose to be a spy."
"How apt, a relative of yours choose a blend of your profession and Mycroft's"
"Yes, very apt. However, since she had my picture, she at least suspects I did not die at the peace summit. I might as well go and see her."
"Is that wise, to show yourself to the girl you raised." Watson asked raising his eyebrow. "Even if I didn't show myself today, she would eventually figure out I am here. She is very bright. Either way, she will know that I am alive. So, I would show myself to her today, so as not to drag out the search for me." Watson sighed, and opened the door for Holmes. "Very well Holmes."
DragonShifter: The next chapter will have Holmes reunited with his cousin.
