Naruto ran at full speed towards his comrades, sensing them to be very low on energy and with two unfamiliar energy signatures. As he ran, he thought of the conversation that he had with Katsumi shortly after defeating her. She had definitely left him a lot to think about.
"A shinobi, huh?"
Katsumi let out a hacking cough before continuing.
"As in a ninja?"
Naruto nodded.
"Yet, you use magic," she pointed out, her chest rising and falling unevenly as she drew ragged breaths.
"I learned magic after my shinobi training." Naruto lied smoothly. Inwardly, he was weeping at his moment of stupidity. 'Dammit! It sounded so cool ending the fight like that! Why'd I let her know I was a shinobi in the first place?'
Another hacking cough.
"I see."
There was a moment of silence.
"Why are you helping to enslave this town? You don't seem bad," he finally asked her, curious where he true motivations lay. After the battle with Nagato, Naruto felt he had truly begun excelling in looking underneath the underneath for the reasons why people did things the way they did them.
Katsumi looked at him, confused.
"I do not understand," she said simply, watching as Naruto scratched his chin in response, seemingly gathering his thoughts.
"Well, I'm not sure how to describe it, but you don't seem like the usual bad guy."
Katsumi blinked as she turned her head to stare at him.
"You'll have to elaborate, I'm afraid."
"Well, let's see. You're really calm, but most evil people I've dealt with that have your attitude usually go insane in a fight, or have some sort of mental deficiency. Like ranting about how their lords are invincible or some random bullshit like that," he said, his thoughts immediately going to Gaara and the Sound ninjas that he had dealt with over the years. Particularly Kabuto; that guy had more than a few screws loose.
Katsumi, despite her current injuries and position, couldn't help but sweatdrop. 'His logic is...most interesting.'
"Also, you don't look like a very evil person. So I was just wondering why you're helping those guys. There's also the fact that you powered down your last attack so I wouldn't have died upon contact," he pointed out casually, causing Katsumi's eyes to widen slightly. She had not expected him to noticed that at all.
"So you noticed that?"
He nodded.
"Yeah, I did. But barely though. So why don't you explain your story?" Naruto said, sitting down cross-legged, making himself comfortable despite the ruined landscape around them. Katsumi sighed, but began talking nonetheless.
"I was born in Rosemary Village. At the age of 8, I was abducted by dark mages and was forced to work as a slave, trying to build the R-system, in the hopes that it would one day bring back the Dark Mage, Zeref," she began. "After six years of being forced to work there, I finally managed to escape with a large number of the other slaves. I was filled with pain and hate for Dark Guilds and all those who are evil. So, I swore to hunt down every Dark Guild in existence, even if it cost me my life."
Naruto's eyes widened. He didn't really know what, or who Zeref was, but hearing that she was in fact a 'good guy' was slightly surprising.
"Wait, but I don't understand. Why are you in your guild?"
Katsumi looked at him for a second, as if deciding if he was trustworthy or not.
"You defeated me, but you seem honourable. I'm a fool for even considering this, much less going through with it. To answer your question, the reason I am still in this Dark Guild is because of this."
She sat up painfully, Naruto helping her when it appeared she would collapse. Once upright, she turned slightly so her back was angled towards him, before dropping the top half of her kimono. Naruto's eyes widened, not because of embarrassment, but rather because of what she had just showed him.
On her back, pulsing a blood red colour, was a seal. The shocking thing was that it was an exact copy of the Hyuuga's Caged Bird Seal.
'Impossible! My mind has to be playing tricks on me.'
He cautiously asked her.
"And how did you get it?"
Katsumi turned to face him, her kimono now back in place.
"It was placed on me by the leader of the Dark Guild I am in, Hyuuga Kasai.'
Naruto narrowed his eyes as remembered the guild master's supposed name. 'This is some really messed up shit. How the hell did a freaking Hyuuga get here? When? No matter what happens, I need to hunt him down and find out exactly how he got here. Cause if he did, then what's stopping Madara?'
Nearing the location of his team mates, Naruto pulled out a kunai in case he was forced to fight off more enemies. Arriving, he saw Gray and Cana lying on the ground, sleeping, but otherwise unharmed. Standing in front of them were two mages. One was a female with blazing red hair and piercing eyes, wearing a breastplate and a long, blue skirt. The other, a man with dark eyes, wearing a dark blue cloak, the visible parts of his arms and legs covered with bandages. His face was fully clothed, other than this eyes. The feature that definitely set him apart was the headband that was on his headgear. Upon closer inspection however, he noticed that it was completely blank, and most likely a fashion statement.
However, Naruto put himself at ease upon noticing the Fairy Tail mark on the woman's left upper arm. He was still careful with the man, but seeing that one of his apparent comrades had no problem with him made him think that he was also a member, or at least a temporary ally.
It appeared that they had not yet noticed him, at least until the man spoke.
"Who are you?" He asked, his back still turned.
Naruto's eyes widened in surprise.
'He sensed me? He must be a fairly strong mage to do so...Or a shinobi.' Naruto thought, still suspicious.
The woman turned towards him, eyes narrowing as she stared at the newcomer.
"Who are you? Another enemy to deal with?"
Naruto shook his head, showing them his Fairy Tail mark.
"Nah, I'm the third member of this team."
At the sight of his Fairy Tail mark and his words, the woman eased her guard, though she still appeared slightly wary.
"I see. I am Erza Scarlet, and this is Mystogan. We were sent by the Master to back you up due to a Dark Guild being in this area. The people we just defeated were members of this guild, which only confirms my suspicions."
Naruto eyes widened upon hearing the name Erza.
'So she's the mage that ordered something similar to kunai. I gotta say, she definitely seems strong.'
"I see. I'm Naruto, the guild's newest member. Pleased to meet you," he said, extending a hand. She took it, almost crushing his hand with her grip. Naruto almost winced at the casual display of strength, fighting back the urge to rub his hand. That one had surprised him.
Letting go, she looked around her before addressing him.
"Anyway, it turns out Black Fire did not ambush you, so we can gather the defeated members and head back to Fairy Tail," she ordered, before turning around to grab the bound members of Black Fire.
His eyes widened. 'Shit! Gotta find a way to go after the Dark Guild. But what...Wait! That's it!'
"Wait! We can't leave!" Naruto yelled at her.
Erza turned around to face him, her eyes glaring at him.
"And why's that?" she asked him, her eyes sharp. Naruto didn't falter in the face of her fierce gaze, instead matching it. His face showed nothing of his true intentions. Then again, faking concern for the reason he was about to give wasn't something he had to do; it was another one of his genuine fears. He just hoped the S-class mage before him listened.
"We can't leave because the guild is still there to cause harm to the town. What's to stop them from coming back again?" he stated, hoping she would see reason in his point.
Mystogan certainly did, nodding at the logic and speaking for the first time.
"He is right, Erza-san. It will be best if we dealt with them right here so they do not cause any more trouble."
Erza, seeing the reason in both their statements, nodded in agreement.
"Very well. What about Cana and Gray?" she asked as an afterthought.
"We can leave them here for now to rest after we make sure these other guys are properly bound. They look pretty tired from their fights," Mystogan replied, looking at the two. And he couldn't be more true. They both looked like absolutely crap, with various cuts and bruises across their bodies, Cana more so than Gray.
"I can use my magic to leave clones behind to watch over them. If anything happens, I'll know right away," Naruto supplied helpfully, earning a curious glance from both mages. However, any questions were held for later as Mystogan stood and began walking.
"Follow me. I've located their guild. Please leave those clones behind Naruto-san."
A quick handseal and application of chakra later, five grinning copies of Naruto stood guard around the two mages, giving thumbs up to their creator and his new temporary teammates.
After making sure that Benkei and Tetsuhiko were properly secured, as well as leaving a quick note for either Cana or Gray to read when they awoke, Naruto and Erza followed after the still walking Mystogan.
Feeling them beside him, he gave them a nod before sprinting, causing Naruto and Erza to do the same.
It took them very little time to arrive outside of the guild with them running at full pace after the two S-class mages noticed that Naruto was easily keeping pace with them. Looking at the building, he couldn't help but notice that the building had a very dark atmosphere around it, almost the same as around the town, only more potent. Not to mention it looked fairly large, much larger than Fairy Tail. It was as if the activities of the mages within the building had altered the surrounding environment. Even the trees were stripped bare of their leaves the closer they were to the dreadful building.
Naruto looked at the two mages. They were definitely strong from the way they carried themselves, though he wasn't sure exactly how strong.
"So, what's the plan?"
Erza glanced at him momentarily before staring at the building once more.
"Normally, I would make one. However, this Dark Guild, while known for vast numbers, is rather weak overall. Therefore, we will not need a strategy. Just keep your guard up."
Naruto sweat dropped, as Erza had pretty much just told them to screw strategy and charge in guns blazing. His sweatdrop only grew larger when Mystogan, the mage who seemed to be the more sensible of the two, actually agreed with the plan.
'What is with these mages. Don't they do anything with caution? Then again, neither did I until after fighting Nagato.'
Not at all waiting for Naruto or Mystogan, Erza charged towards the guild building, her body glowing a heavenly gold light. When it cleared, she was wearing her Knight Armour once more. She easily broke the door down, soon disappearing from sight.
Staring at her, Naruto's jaw dropped. 'What the hell was that?! It was like she summoned the armour, but she didn't use any seals or anything! I really gotta find out more about the different kinds of magic in this world.'
Turning to ask Mystogan, he found an empty space.
"Huh. They both went on without me. Oh well, I'll send a clone in my place, and find the guild master. Makes it easier for me, I guess."
Creating a clone that rushed towards the two S-class mages, Naruto himself took a more indirect route. Sitting down, he gathered his sage chakra. A minute later, he opened his eyes.
'Let's find us a Hyuuga.'
Closing his eyes, he stretched his senses. A lot were irrelevant to the true prize to him, being magic users. Blocking them out, Naruto searched specifically for users of chakra. Luckily, he found only one, located at the very opposite end of the building. Naruto got up, and ran towards the backside of the building. It took him little time to reach there, his speed and strength still amplified by Sage Mode.
Standing in front of where he sensed the supposed Hyuuga, Naruto held out his hand, a Rasengan already forming. "I dunno if he's actually a Hyuuga or not, but I gotta do this," he said, thinking back to Katsumi.
"I don't know who he is." Naruto said, though he was lying a little on his part. He did after all know he was a Hyuuga. "But, he is doing evil things that must be stopped. I swear, I WILL free you!"
"I barely know her...So why do I want to help her so bad?" Naruto asked himself, unable to come up with an answer. Shaking his head slightly, he stared at the wall, his hand ready. "I'll think later. But now I have a Hyuuga to beat the shit out of. Rasengan!"
The Rasengan slammed into the wood wall, easily breaking through it. Looking up, he was met with the gaze of two white eyes staring at him. That is until he was sent flying back with a well placed palm strike to the chest, slamming him into a tree.
Naruto stood up, coughing.
'That hurt. But looks like he didn't put any chakra behind that strike, cuz I can still feel my chakra flowing fine.'
Looking up at the Hyuuga, he noticed he was staring at him, looking like he had seen a ghost.
"M-Minato?!"
Erza had found herself in a large mess-like room, filled with a variety of tables, and, of course, members of the guild she was trying to take down. That made it easy for her, as she had not needed to move very far before coming across them gathered together.
"Guns Magic: Lightning Bullet!"
A voice yelled from behind Erza, forcing her out of her thoughts to dodge the bullet, before directing another one of her blades to take the mage down.
Her opponents, while extremely weak, were numerous, and thus the battle was not as easy as she had expected. Of course, it was still easy for the S-class mage, just not as much as she had expected.
Thought, at this rate, it was becoming plain troublesome. "Enough!" Erza yelled, spreading her arms out.
"Dance, my blades! Circle Sword!"
The blades levitated as one, becoming somewhat of a veritable cyclone of steel as they flew around the room, felling mages left and right as they succumbed to various injuries.
"Ice God's Bellow!"
Suddenly, a concentrated beam of ice broke through said cyclone, colliding with Erza a moment later, sending her flying into the stone wall behind her.
"My my, I didn't expect Titania Erza to be here. That makes things interesting," a sugary sweet voice said, dripping with a mixture of amusement and thinly veiled bloodlust.
"I'll enjoy breaking you, sweetheart."
"Where is-HURK!"
"I don't kno-ARGH!"
"What the fu-BAM!"
The various voices crying out had become a common occurrence in the room as the Black Fire members fell to Mystogan's might, one after the other as he dashed between their ranks, sowing mass confusion. He was fairly bored at the moment, using a fraction of his power; yet they were easily falling to him. While not normally a person to desire battle, even he grew bored of this one sided slaughter.
As if to relieve his boredom, a voice sounded through the room, causing nearly everyone in the room to still.
"Arc of Destruction: Annihilate."
And the room was engulfed in white light.
Erza cursed as she dodged more spears of ice, backpedaling as one got through. A quick slash of the sword in her hand later, it was not longer an issue
"What's wrong Erza-chan?! Not having fun?"
The deranged voice of her enemy called. Erza shivered. Her opponent was a tall man, dressed in heavy black clothing, none of his body visible. His face was hidden underneath a helmet, similar to the one worn by Bixlow, only his practically radiated bloodlust and pure, unadulterated insanity.
"Die Erza-chan! Ice God's Ice Swallow Barrage!"
Erza grit her teeth, performing a series of backflips to create some distance between her and the surprisingly fast swallows of ice. All the while, she mentally commanded her swords to all charge in front of her. They managed to destroy the majority of the birds, and any that made it through were easily dodged or cut apart.
"Oh, Erza-chan, you managed to dodge that. Well, I'll just have to try harder, right?"
The man giggled, which sounded even more deranged than a grown man giggling normally would sound.
"Ice God's Scythe!"
A scythe made of ice swung in an arc towards Erza, smashing into her right side and sending her flying into the wall. Standing up, Erza noticed her Knight Armour was mostly destroyed, barely hanging off of her, though it thankfully covered anything she would rather her enemies not see. She frowned as she realized that had it not been for the natural magical shield provided by the armour, she would mostly likely be in two pieces.
"You know, Erza-chan, you're quite the looker. Maybe after I beat you, I'll have some fun with you?" The man said, chuckling as he leered at her.
Erza instantly froze, looking at the man, a dark shadow seemingly radiating from her. Her eyes seemed to give off a red, devilish tint.
"I'm sorry, but could you repeat that?"
Her voice was deathly quiet, radiating fury. Her opponent either didn't care, or was completely oblivious.
"Man, you must be really stupid, Erza-chan. I said I would have some fun with you later, you dumb wh-"
Before the man could say anything more, he was cut off by a fist buried deep into his stomach. Spittle flew through the slots of his helmet, normally used for breathing, as his body nearly folding in on itself. Erza was standing before the man, dressed in her Purgatory Armour.
Not giving him a chance to retaliate, Erza hammered away at his body using her mace, keeping pace after his body was sent flying after each hit. After five minutes, she finally allowed him to be sent away from her and straight into a wall, which his body promptly buried itself, in the form of a human-shaped hole.
The man, name still unknown, groaned heavily. His fingers gripped at the edge of his hole, arms flexing as he pulled his abused body out. He fell like a sack of potatoes to the ground, though he managed to catch himself on one knee.
"That...was...good...Erza-chan...But now...you die," he said between ragged breaths. He shakily stood up using the assistance of makeshift ice crutches, which quickly literally raised him off the ground.
He drew a deep breath, gathering an absurd amount of magic. Thrusting his hands forward, he roared:
"Ice God's Judgement!"
A massive wave of black ice erupted from his hands, quickly engulfing the surprised Erza, who had not a moment to react as it took her. The attack carried forward to the other side of the room, collapsing a portion of the wall to allow sunlight into the rather dim room.
When the ice finally stopped, Erza was nowhere to be seen, seemingly buried under the tons of ice.
"Shame, I was hoping to have some fun with-"
The man was cut off from a cry behind him.
"Photon Slicer!" Erza cried, a beam of energy shooting at the man. It collided with his chest a millisecond later, shooting him through his earlier attack as his face became a rather interesting ice breaker. He finally stopped when the energy imploded, sending him careening a few metres back before he was finally stopped by a tree. It groaned form the sudden pressure on its side, though it did not break.
The man fell forward, blood flowing freely from his head and his chest smoking from the remnants of the attack. Erza carefully moved to him, checking to see if he was unconscious. Seeing that he was, she made quick work of tying him up in case he woke too early, before moving to look for her errant teammates. Hearing a muffled explosion, she decided to follow it as her current source.
Mystogan eased himself off the ground, his eyes narrowed. Looking around the room, he noticed the Black Fire guild members from before were on the ground, either unconscious or dead, having been caught in the crossfire of their fellow guild member's attack. A particular anger bubbled inside him at the thought of a mage who did not care for the life of what was supposed to be their family.
'That last attack was strong. Who was behind it?'
"I see, so you survived," a deep, baritone voice said.
Mystogan focused his gaze forward to see a very tall man standing there, his arms crossed over his burly chest. He was dressed in baggy brown pants, his chest wrapped in bandages. He was bald, and had not facial hair to speak of- not even eyebrows. His eyes reminded Mystogan of an eagle as they stared him down.
"You knew your attack would hit your guild members," Mystogan said after a moment of staring. "Do you not care for them?"
"They were weak, and thus, they were not able to survive," the man said with a shrug, as if it was the most casual thing in the world. "Enough talk though, for you have an appointment with death."
A single finger was pointed at Mystogan.
"Arc of Destruction: Explode."
Mystogan's danger senses went overboard, causing him to quickly jump to the side. He was not fast enough however, as his close proximity to the explosion nearly knocked him off balance as his eardrums protested against the pain from the loud noise.
Getting up, and shaking his head to clear it, Mystogan was given only a second of rest as the man appeared in front of him and punched him. Mystogan dodged by tilting his head to narrowly avoid it, though he certainly felt the wind from the force behind the punch. He immediately drew a stave, thrusting it hard into the man's stomach.
A brief grunt of pain was the only indication that the mage felt it before he quickly snatched the stave away from Mystogan. Leaning back in one fluid motion, a side kick sent Mystogan stumbling backwards. His stave was thrown at him like a javelin a moment later.
Mystogan snatched it out of the air, not appreciating that his weapon had almost been used against him, only to find another finger pointed at him.
"Arc of Destruction: Explode!"
Forced to witness the magic this time, Mystogan watched as an intricate, red magic seal burst into life on the surface of his stave. The spell activated moments later, sending him crashing to the ground. His opponent wasted no time, taking advantage of Mystogan's disoriented state to crush his head with an axe kick. Mystogan rolled away, just in time to avoid his opponents boot, head still spinning.
"Arc of Destruction: Explode!"
Another magic seal began forming, this time on his cloak. Wasting not even a second, Mystogan unclasped his cloak, throwing it at his pointing opponent. His eyes widened as his spell was turned against him, engulfing him in smoke. Mystogan took that time to dash behind an upturned table, planning his next move, while also allowing himself to breathe for a moment while the ringing in his head slowly dulled.
His eyes narrowed, as even after a few minutes, the room was extremely quiet. It was not possible that a man his size would not make a single noise while moving about.
Readying his magic, he carefully looked from the side of the table, only to feel an urge to sweatdrop. He didn't of course; Mystogan was far too dignified for that.
The reason for this urge was because his opponent was laying knocked out on the ground, some blood flowing from his head. It seemed that Mystogan's diversionary tactic had ended up winning him the battle, as his mysterious opponent had never taken his magic headfirst.
He sighed, a bit put off by the rather anticlimatic end. Not to mention, his cloak was destroyed. While he liked the flare of mystery the cloak added to him, he liked it more because it was very comfortable.
'At least I still have my headgear.'
He was interrupted from his musings as he heard Erza's voice call.
"Mystogan, what happened?"
He turned around to her, even more thankful for the head covering. He didn't think Erza was in the correct mental state to see his face just yet. Or at all.
"Nothing much. Though I believe we should check on our errant comrade to make sure he is alright."
"Indeed, let's go."
Quickly securing his defeated opponent in magic rope, Erza took off again down some random hallway, letting instinct guide her as Mystogan followed close behind.
"Who are you? And how do you know my dad?" Naruto asked. The mysterious Hyuuga's eyes widened once more.
"Dad? Then, you must be Naruto!" he said, a particularly excited twinkle in his eye. It was almost odd seeing a Hyuuga expressing emotion, considering how emotionless Neji had been.
Naruto's eyes narrowed, not trusting the stranger. "Tell me who you are and how you know me."
The Hyuuga blinked, before chuckling lightly. His hands raised in a non-threatening manner, a kind smile on his face.
"Ah, it would seem I'm making it more confusing. My name is Hyuuga Hizashi, and 13 years ago, I awoke to find myself in this odd world."
-End-
Mwahahahaha! I'm beginning to see why authors enjoy the evil cliffhanger jutsu so much. Now, I doubt any of you saw Hizashi coming, did you? And none of you could have seen it cause I thought of it on the fly. I was planning the whole evil Hyuuga hating Minato, trying to kill Naruto and using the Caged Bird Seal, but for some reason, I thought of this instead. I honestly have no idea where I'm going with this...So send me the ideas on what Hizashi should do!
I honestly don't know if you'll like it or not, so it was a bit of a risk on my part. If you have something against it, please don't flame. It is very annoying when people do that.
Moving on, I want to thank everyone who reviewed. I'm now at 50 reviews! Woot! Anyway, I hope you'll liked it.
HokagenoNaruto, out.
2/1/2017: Just finished edits to this chapter as well. I'm trying to get through a chapter a day in terms of edits. As I mentioned in the last chapter for anyone who bothered reading, this is super annoying, but it's making the story that much better. If you are a new reader, and don't see these edit notes in chapters past this, it means I haven't yet edited them, so please bare with the horrible writing. It gets slightly more amusing towards the end. Still pretty bad though. Ciao~
