Sorry for not posting a chapter in a really long time! School got the best of us all.
The chapter before this, btw, is written by Foxbracken. The current one is written my me. Firekit's writer should be finishing up her chapter soon, so don't worry about it!
Clouds stretched across the blue sky. Some were darker than the others, signing that there would be rain pretty soon. And that didn't bother the cats of FrostClan to much - most of them sunbathed when rain came. Some were even scolded by the medicine cat because she didn't want any kitten coughs or colds coming in her den.
And oh, Rainykit was guilty of all those and more. The adopted kitten to Thrushtail and Dogtooth was a troublemaker. She loved jumping around and causing messes for others to clean up. Sometimes it resulted in getting herself hurt, so she would go to Whistlingbird. Of course, she would get scolded.
But the medic would then on ask about her day and comment how Rainykit was her favorite out of all her frequent patients. Can you believe that? An orphan, the medicine cat's favorite!? Rainykit found it hard to believe as well. But even if this was true, the diluted tortie wouldn't take the chance of being the next medicine cat.
I mean, a whole life time without learning how to fight and kill? Without love and hate? Without the chance to be a mother? Sure, it was all to much to think of now. But she knew she didn't want to go down that path. And if she was asked, she would have to not spare her friend's feelings and say no.
At the moment, little Rainykit was watching the skies, wanting to watch the first drop land. She listened to Thrushtail lecture Tawnykit and Owlkit, the identical twins, about not running in the rain. She gave up on lecturing Rainy because, no matter how many times she was told not to, she still ran and played with everyone else. She ended up building somewhat of an immune system towards that.
There it was! The first drop of the storm! Rainy raced out of the den and caught it just as it touched the ground. Then another fell, and another fell! Sooner or later, there was a rain storm pouring on them all.
"Woohoo!" Rainykit called as she ran and tumbled into an already growing mud puddle, splashing Volepaw.
"Hey!" Volepaw laughed, turning away from his conversation with Mousepaw and flicking his tail. He scooped up some mud and aimed it at the kitten, catching her side with a playful grin.
"Watch out!" The kitten squealed as she wound up another mud ball, but Volepaw ducked and it hit Mousepaw square in the face. Both toms laughed and continued to play. It was easy to see that many cats had accepted Rainykit into the Clan.
Though, there were a few cats that still didn't approve of Rainykit. One was Cloudchaser, the deputy. Scarredears, an elder, was skeptical of her as well. Last of all, her own adopted father wasn't happy with her. Dogtooth himself. And whenever she got the courage to ask why to any of them, they either refused to answer or said that 'accepting someone outside of the Clan is not a usual thing to do'. But that's all they said. No details.
And speak of the toms now. As Rainykit ran off, she splashed into Dogtooth, who was hiding from the rain with Cloudchaser. When she heard their subtle growl, she stood and looked at the ground in shame.
"Rainykit! You have to be more careful!" Dogtooth snapped. Cloudchaser just turned away. Rainykit assumed that he was listening to the old saying, 'if you have nothing good to say, say nothing at all.'
"Yes, Dogtooth." Rainykit murmured in her surprisingly quiet voice. She stood up and turned away, walking to the nursery with her head hanging.
"Idiot kit." She heard Cloudchaser's rough voice as she entered the nursery with a slop slop, due to her paws being incredibly muddy already. She stayed by the entrance and waited for Thrushtail to call her over, which, luckily, the queen did.
"Rainy, you're so muddy! I might just change your name to Muddykit!" Her adopted mother joked with a small smile, that caused Rainykit to laugh a bit. She allowed the queen to thoroughly clean her, then layed down between the twins and slept the rest of the storm away.
