The Jacket
"So you took the jacket?"
Kurt jumps and drops the jacket as he looks up to the doorway to see Puck. "What?"
"The jacket." Puck kicks his foot in Kurt's direction before propping himself up in the doorway. "Everyone thought that it was me, but it was you."
"Um." Kurt takes in a deep breath as he reaches up to dry his tears. "No. No it wasn't me."
"Then who?" Puck asks as he comes into the room.
Kurt watches from the floor as Puck moves slowly, his brown eyes taking in everything in Finn's room. He even hesitates before he sits down on the bed, his fingers spreading out on the top blanket and his bottom lip shaking. Kurt turns away as he holds out the jacket, expecting Puck to take it.
"I didn't take it."
"I know." Kurt turns to look at the boy who is staring off into the distance. "Not after you gave it to Santana. It's just something that's not in your personality."
"Yeah." Kurt agrees quietly before he brings the jacket back down to his body, hugging it to himself with one arm. "It was Mr. Schue. He . . . had gave it back to me last night. Well Miss Pillsbury made him. Or Mrs. Scheuster I think she is now. She said he just needed to say one last goodbye"
"Makes sense." Puck slowly nods before he looks down to Kurt. "You know Finn and I used to talk about you? A lot actually." He chuckles as he looks away and back into the distance. "He was always worried about you. So was I." He quickly adds with a quick glance to Kurt. "Especially when you decided to go off to New York. It was so hard because when he went to the army, I promised him that I'd look after you. If I'm being completely honest, I actually went to New York a few times to check in on you."
"You did?" Kurt mutters as he struggles to his feet and takes a hesitant seat at Puck's side. "Why didn't you ever . . . come say hi or anything?"
"I didn't want to ruin anything." Puck shrugs. "Finn was there for your break-up, and he told me to give you space. But you have that new guy in your life." Puck smiles. "I talked to him a few times. The dude thinks I'm a Nyada student." Puck laughs as he looks to Kurt and finds the boy smiling. "Finn liked him too. But . . . yeah. I showed up every few months. I saw your Winter Showcase thing, which was great by the way."
"Thank you." Kurt mutters shyly as he looks down to his lap. "I really do wish you would have let me know, though. I mean, I know we weren't the closest but it would have been nice to see you. Especially having to deal with girls all the time. They're so exhausting." Kurt groans.
Puck laughs, the atmosphere around them becoming lighter. "I'll make sure too next time. We'll have a guys night. Haven't really had one in awhile."
"Yeah." Kurt looks to Puck. "Do you think . . . that we could have one tonight? Before Mike goes home and . . . lets have everyone over. I need my family."
"Yeah." Puck readily agrees.
Kurt smiles before his smile breaks, his gaze returning to the jacket. He fiddles with it before handing it to Puck without looking at the boy. Puck sighs before taking the jacket, their fingers grazing and the jacket falling to the ground. It's unknown who started it, but they both find themselves hugging the other as the mourn their fallen brother . . . Finn Hudson.
So this is a scene that I felt was necessary to end Puck's arc and make Finn's brothers come together in a decent scene that didn't involve a lot of tension.
