Hello my faithful readers! I bring you chapter 13 of 'Darkness of the Night' and I will tell you it is a doozy! Shit goes down in the chapter, to just put it frankly. It starts off with Glinda telling Elphaba about something important. Will she tell Elphaba that the Wizard is her father or is it something else? Well, you will have to read on to see. Lol I don't want to let you be held in suspense so I will let you read on! This is a very long chapter. I couldn't split it into two chapters cause I wanted you to get the whole thing without me holding you in suspense. Also I would love to thank Varia, Fae the Queen, LuciferOfTheSouthPole, and ComingAndGoingByBubble thank you so much for reviewing the chapters. It means so much that you take the time to review and tell me what you think of the story. Thank you so much. I do this for you! Anyways…read and enjoy!

Chapter 13

Elphaba is curled up in a plush chair in the library of the Animal Resistance. She has in her hands a book about how the Animal Resistance first started. For being a target by the Wizard they amassed a nice collection of books to read. She has some down time so she decided to see what is all in the library and maybe find a book of her interest. The book in her hand slowly moves down until brown eyes are peering over the edges of it when the sound of scratching starts to pique her curiosity. A few feet from her is Glinda sitting at a wooden table looking over her glasses as she is busy scribbling down something on scrolls. The green woman admits that the blonde seems to be really efficient now with her left hand. Though she is more curious about what Glinda is writing about.

"It's not nice to start at people, Elphaba."

Elphaba gives a jump and the book stumbles out of her hand onto her lap with a soft bang. The blonde gives a giggle as she observes her bumbling lover pick up her book while putting her feet back onto the floor with a clearing of the throat. Elphaba usually is a subtle person with her actions but the good witch could feel eyes staring at her and the green woman is the only room with her. Unless Silver is spying on the two of them again, the nosy Wolf he has become since the two witches started back into a relationship.

"I was just wondering what you're writing about." Elphaba replies as she shifts into a more comfortable position in her chair. Glinda bites her bottom lip slightly in thought. She is debating on whether it is the perfect time to tell her the theory about the Wizard being her father or tell her about something else. There is something she would like to discuss with her lover. The latter seems like a better option right now. The good witch pulls off her glasses and sets it down on the table before turning her chair to face Elphaba. She folds her hands then lays them on her lap.

"I was writing down ingredients for a potion so Fiyero can pick them up for me." Glinda responds as she locks eyes with her. The green witch cocks her head to the side in curiosity. Her lover really never has been one for potion making. She actually makes potions explode more then not. So what is Glinda concocting?

"A potion for?"

Blue eyes move back and forth before a soft smile appears on the blonde's face. She hopes Elphaba will like what she is about to say.

"A potion that will remove your water allergy." She answers while gripping her hands tightly. The raven haired beauty hears the words but is still processing what she has been told. If what Glinda says is true then she will no longer be allergic to water. She could finally feel the cool, crisp water without it burning her. The green woman could do all the things she has dreamed about. She could take a shower or bath with Glinda. She could go swimming in a lake or actually learn how to swim. When it rains she can finally kiss Glinda in it.

"Elphie?"

Elphaba blinks her eyes and her sight comes back into focus. Her cheeks darken in embarrassment at spacing out on her lover. She scratches the back of her head. She wants to talk but she is still lost for words. Glinda gives a giggle as she pushes off the chair and walks over to her unusually quiet lover. It's defiantly a sight to see for sure. The blonde reaches forward and affectionately tucks some of the raven locks behind the green ear when she gets close enough to her.

"It's true, Elphie. I'm going to have Fiyero get the necessary ingredients, if you want it that is." Glinda says as she sits on the raven haired beauty's lap. She gives a squeak of surprise when strong arms wrap around her waist and a bruising kiss is planted on her lips. She melts into the lanky body to eagerly returns the kiss. The good witch is left breathless when her green lover finally pulls away. Elphaba kisses her forehead before looking down at Glinda with a big smile. She didn't need to think about this to know her answer.

"I would definitely want that potion." She replies with her brown eyes sparkling at the thought of water never burning her again. The good witch is bursting at the seams with happiness at hearing this answer. She will get that list to Fiyero as soon as possible. Glinda bites her bottom lip at the look on Elphaba's face. Maybe they should celebrate first. The two lovers move their heads closer until their lips brush together but they couldn't go no further. Suddenly there is loud shouting and footsteps start running outside the library. Dark eyebrows nit together as Elphaba looks over Glinda's head to see what is going on.

"What in Oz is going on out there?" Glinda wonders out loud a she gets off her lover's lap and starts to walk towards the door to see what is happening to make the sudden uproar. The green woman gets to her feet when the door opens with a loud bang. The good witch jumps back in shock when Silver nearly runs into her.

"Silver, where's the fire?" She asks with concern at seeing her out of breath companion. Elphaba walks next to her lover and puts a hand on Glinda's back while her eyes watch a flurry of Animals running about in a panic. Some of them are actually bumping into each other as they run about. What is going on? Silver finally gathers his bearings and takes a deep inhale of breath before looking up to the witches. He has to tell them the short version of what is happening before he has to organize everything.

"The Gale Force is attack. I don't know how they found us but they did. We already have casualties." The Wolf reveals what is going on in the compound. Glinda's heart stops beating at hearing this. She is suddenly short of breath as well. How could this have happened? How could have the Wizard found out about this place? Is there a mole among the Animals? Elphaba puts a steading hand on her wavering lover. She remains neutral on her face but her insides are quivering like jelly. All the Animals including Glinda can be harmed. She doesn't want to lose her again by their hands. The good witch inhales deeply as the shock has worn off. It's time for action. She won't let the Wizard win this one.

"Get all the mothers and babies to the safe area. We need to organize a counter strike immediately otherwise we will fall. Get some of our heavy hitters out there. They will slow them down while we get everybody else ready for battle." Glinda instructs on what they need to do to defend the compound. Silver nods his head in understanding but pauses in running off to give the orders. He is worried about the two witches' safety.

"What about you two?"

The blonde blinks her eyes at the question and casts a glance towards her lover. She always knew she would be on the front line helping her fellow Animals defend their home. She almost forgot that Elphaba is by her side. Glinda won't lose her to the Wizard.

"I'll be out there soon helping you fight. Elphaba will go with the mothers and babies in the safe area." The blonde answers as Elphaba's eyes go wide before she sharply looks to her fidgety lover at what she just heard and what she will be doing. Glinda ignores the daggers being thrown at her mentally as she motions the Wolf to get a move on. Silver just nods his head because he knows the two witches need to talk in private.

"You're seriously going to fight the Gale Force and leave me behind not knowing if you're going to live?" The green woman hisses when they are finally alone. Glinda rubs her forehead with a slightly frustrated sight. They don't have time to argue about this. Elphaba is going to the safe area and that is final.

"I'm not going to argue about this. You're going to the area going to the safe area and that is it." The blonde snaps back. She leans in and cups her lover's face for a deep kiss to convey her love also to keep her quiet for a couple of seconds. She can't waste any more time arguing the issue. She needs to go and play her part in the fight.

"I love you and I'm sorry." Glinda whispers before she runs out of the room. Elphaba exhales sharply before running towards the door frame to watch her lover disappear among the Animals.

"Glinda!"

The good witch shuts her eyes to try and ignore the anguished cry of her name while she runs towards where the battle is at. If she survives then she has a lot of making up to do to the green woman. She opens her eyes and sees Fiyero carrying a Tiger cub in his arms while guiding Animals away from the Gale Force. She needs to make a pit stop.
"Fiyero!"

The Winkie prince looks towards the shout and a look of relief appears on his face at seeing Glinda before him. It is good to see her among the chaos. He holds the Cub tightly in his arms as he runs towards her. The Cub gives a squeak and wraps its paws tightly around his neck while burying its face in his chest.

"Glinda, thank Oz you're ok." Fiyero says when he gets close enough. He heard the Gale Force is attacking and decided to help by getting the non-fighting Animals to safety. He rubs the fur of the Tiger Cub in his arms. That is why he has the baby Animals with him. He found it on the floor, crying in fear. The good witch smiles and nods her head. She is happy to see her friend is ok as well. She is hoping he wouldn't be one of the casualties that will happen with this fight.

"I am, Fiyero. I'm going to fight." She holds up her hand to stop him from talking her out of it. Nothing will convince her not to do it. This is her home and she intends to defend it. Fiyero frowns but he knows he won't convince her otherwise. So he will just listen to what she has to say.

"I left Elphaba in the library. I want you to get her to the safe area and don't let her leave there. Keep her safe." Glinda instructs what the Winkie prince needs to do while she is out fighting. He swallows hard at the job knowing Elphaba will be fighting him tooth and nail to be by her lover's side. He looks down to the frighten Cub and holds it closer to him. Maybe he can make her take care of the Cub to keep her preoccupied.

"O…ok. I will but you better come back." He replies with a wavering voice. He prays silently she will come back alive. Glinda smiles before getting on her tippy toes and Fiyero bends his knees to make it easier for her to reach. He blushes slightly when the good witch kisses his forehead for protection. No harm will come to him now.

"I'll see you later." She whispers. She looks at him and winks before running off to the battlefield.

Glinda gives a surprised yelp as the tree, she is taking shelter behind, gives a loud crack and wood goes flying everywhere when a bullet lodges itself in the tree.

"Too close." She whispers to herself as she puts a hand on her chest. She can feel her heart pounding in adrenaline and fear. The blonde cautiously peaks outs from behind the tree to see if she can pick out the gunman aiming for her. She still doesn't know how the Wizard found out the location of the compound but the flying bullets along with the cries of Animals fighting doesn't provide a good thinking place. Glinda doesn't see her gunman but she witness one Gale Force soldier running away from a huge Grizzle Bear. She pictures him probably pissing his pants at such a huge creature trying to rip him to shreds. The good witch hopes Fiyero has kept Elphaba safe during the battle of defending their compound, their home. Glinda then notices a Cheetah getting backed into a corner with two Gale Force soldiers pointing their guns at the Animal. She sees its sides heaving in tiredness but still tries to inflict damage by swinging an unsheathed paw at them. The Cheetah is so weak that the soldiers just laugh at the pathetic attempt to hurt them.

"Say good night kitty." One laughs as they cock their guns. Glinda won't let the Animal die by their hands. Her eyes darken in fury as the fire erupts from her hands and it flies towards the soldiers. Their screams of agony fall on deaf ears while their flesh burn from the extreme heat. They drop their guns tp run off to find relief from the fire. The Cheetah collapses to the ground and it is there does the blonde see blood staining the fur on its belly area. That is why it hasn't been fighting at full capacity. She starts to go to the Cheetah to assets its wounds. She notices the golden eyes are looking past her and its trying to lift up one of its paws as if trying to point to something. Glinda has a feeling something bad is behind her. She slowly turns around to see her mystery gunman standing a couple of feet from her. The barrel of the gun is pointed straight at her chest. The gun is trembling slightly as the soldier hesitates to pull the trigger on the beloved figure that is Glinda the Good.

"I'm sorry Lady Glinda." The soldier apologizes as his finger squeezes the trigger all the way. The blonde inhales deeply while she is blinded by the flash of the gun shot that she has no time to react.

Elphaba is pacing back and forth in front of Fiyero with her arms crossed and her lips in a firm, thin line. She can't decide if she is more pissed at Glinda for running off to fight the Gale Force or more scared that she will never see her lover again while she is stuck in the safe area of the compound, listening to the faint action that is going on. Fiyero is watch her face while he cradles the Tiger Cub in his arms, the tiny Cub is laying on his back and his paws are twitching while he sleeps.

'Must have worn himself out.' He thinks to himself when he looks down to check on the Cub. He doesn't know where his parents are and he doesn't see any Tigers in the safe area. He hopes they aren't casualties of the fight. If that is true then he will take care of the Cub until he is an adult. The Winkie prince casts his eyes back on Elphaba with a soft sigh. She hasn't stopped pacing since she got here. He tricked her into going by guilt tripping her with the Tiger Cub saying how his parents are missing and needs the two of them to look after the Cub. Of course that is a lie because the Cub had passed out a couple minutes after they got here.

"I'm sure she is fine." Fiyero tries to reassure the green woman that Glinda will make it through the fight. He is trying to ignore his own doubt of his friend surviving. He can't let them both be negative nancies about the whole situation. Elphaba just shoots him an eye full of daggers. She rather be out there fighting then be standing around twiddling her thumbs while she waits for it to end.

"Don't give me that look, Elphaba. I'm trying to stay positive." He keeps his voice calm cause an argument will not help anything. The raven haired beauty opens her mouth to retort but a sudden wave of pain hits her heart. She bends over while clutching her chest with a painful gasp. Something has happened to Glinda.

"Elphaba, what is wrong?"

Elphaba squeezes her eyes tightly, trying to will the pain away. She has to get out of here. She needs to know that her lover is all right.

"Glinda." Is all she could say before she runs towards the door. She uses her magic to undo all the locks and gizmos that keep the door tightly shut. She prays that she won't find Glinda's dead body again. She won't be able to handle it if she did. Elphaba just follows her heart to where Glinda will be. Stone floor soon turns into grass. All she hears is blood pounding in her ears and nothing else. The green woman can't tell if it's just wind blowing by her or its bullets grazing by. At this point she doesn't really care. All she cares about is getting to her lover. Her feet start to slow down when her heart is telling her she is near. Tears go to her eyes and her hand goes to her mouth at what she sees before her. It can't be true. How could this have happened Before the green woman is Glinda kneeling down on the ground with her hands full of blood and tears running heavily down her face. She keeps on whispering over and over again

"No…No...no...this can't be."

Silver is lying on the ground in front of the shell shocked blond. His blood is staining the grass and his body is not moving. His lifeless, green eyes staring at Elphaba will be something she will never forget for the rest of her life.

*Sniffles* Silver has died and I'm teary eyed right now as I read this chapter over for proofreading. I was going to have him survive but there needed to be a catalyst to kind of push Glinda to the edge to really make her hate the Wizard now and set things in motion. It was hard to write but necessary to the plot of the story. The only good thing that came out of this chapter is Elphaba learned that she will not be allergic to water sometime soon. Anways, the next chapter will be up in a couple of days. Until then!
