Hello all! Welcome to chapter 14 of 'The Darkness of the Night' it's the continuation from the shocking ending from chapter 13 that ended in the death of Silver. It was hard writing my first character death especially when I usually bring them back to life somehow but not this one. His death does play a part in this entire story. He was one of my favorite characters to write and to kill him off was very hard to do. Anyways, enough with my rambling about Silver, here is the conclusion of finding out Silver's death. Read and enjoy!

Chapter 14

Glinda's hands are shaking to a high degree while she continues to stare at Silver's unmoving body. She is still replaying the scene over and over in her head. She had turned around to come face to face with a Gale Force soldier's gun. She didn't know where Silver come from but when the gun went off he suddenly leapt out of nowhere and took the bullet to his chest. He was limp the second he hit the ground. The blonde used her magic to force the soldier into a tree hard, effectively knocking him out. Glinda has surprised herself that she didn't outright kill him because she usually does that when somebody she loves is hurt by the enemy. A part of her must know that he is a valuable resource if he is alive.

She tried putting pressure on the wound try to help stop the bleeding but his soul already left his body. The good witch knew there would be casualties but she didn't think Silver would be one of them.

"Silver…come on, wake up." Glinda says with her voice breaking with grief while she strokes his soft, silver muzzle. She is willing the Wolf to just start moving or give a twitch to show he is still alive. Silver still doesn't move at her touch. The blonde sniffles slightly and looks up when she hears footsteps coming towards her. She doesn't know if she can defend herself if it's another soldier coming to attack her, truth be told. The good witch doesn't care if the battle is still going on. She just feels numb to everything.

"Elphie…" Glinda whispers when she notices Elphaba kneeling down next to her with dark, burn streaks going down her cheeks as she silently cries for the death of Silver. His cheerful disposition and positive attitude will be sorely missed. Elphaba puts a comforting hand on her lover's shoulder. She doesn't know what to say that could make Glinda feel better but hopes her presence helps her at all. The blonde launches herself into the lanky body and buries her face into her green lover's chest.

"It's all my fault. I wasn't paying attention and he saved me." She whimpers into the black fabric. She will never forgive herself for causing the death of her dear friend.

"It's not your fault." Elphaba whispers as she holds her close to her body. It's true it's not her fault. She didn't shoot him. The Gale Force soldier did it. The green woman closes her eyes and gently rocks her crying lover, hoping her presence soothes the grief Glinda is feeling. The blonde leans back before looking over the green woman's shoulder. Her eyebrows twitch when she sees the guard, who shot Silver, starting to stir. Suddenly her anger spreads through her body like wild fire. Her grief is taking a back seat to her hatred for the Wizard and all the evil he has done. Elphaba is right. Silver's death is not her fault.

"You're right, Elphaba. It's not my fault. It's the Wizard's." Glinda hisses through her teeth as she pulls herself away from the confused green woman and makes her way to the recovering soldier. It's time to plot a counter-attack. All she has to do is make him talk. Elphaba watches with worry in her eyes. She has never seen such an intense anger coming off the good witch. She usually is level headed and keeps calm. It helps balance out her fiery personality. It seems the roles have reversed between the two of them.

"Get up." Glinda growls as she grabs the soldier by the uniform and with great strength picks him up to slam his back into a nearby tree. The green woman's eyes widen in shock at what is unfolding before her. She has never known the blonde to be violent in any kind of way. She would never physically harm somebody no matter how mad she got. Has her experiences Glinda has gone through recently mixed with Silver's death changed that side of her lover?

"Glinda!"

Her calling out to the good witch falls on deaf ears as all Glinda sees is red. She wants information from the soldier so she can strike back at the Wizard, show him a clear message. She is a force to be reckoned with and she is coming for him. Her lithe fingers wrap tightly around the slim neck of the terrified soldier. Tears are glistening in his eyes and his whole body is trembling like a leaf in the wind. He is just following orders because if he doesn't he will disappear like everybody else who doesn't follow directions.

"I…I'm sorry, Lady Glinda." He whispers with a sincere apology. The soldier didn't want to kill anybody. He aimed the gun so it wouldn't have hit any vital areas on her body but the Wolf jumped in at the wrong time. Glinda grits her teeth as her fingers grips the neck even tighter but making sure he can still breathe for now.

"Shut up. Now be a good by and tell me the location of the Animal holding camp where you brought a black female Wolf." The blonde hisses through her teeth. She is doing this for Silver, fulfilling the promise to rescue his mate. It's the least she can do in the memory of her friend. Then when she is done with that camp she is going for the Wizard and kill him to end his reign of destruction.

"I…ugh...I..." The soldier tries to speak up but the iron grip around his neck is making it difficult to speak. Elphaba exhales shakily at the seeing unfolding before her. She will not let the good witch kill even though he works for the Wizard. She doesn't want Glinda to go down that dark path where she might never return.

"Glinda, stop it!" The raven haired beauty shouts as she rushes over to her lover's side and grabs hold of the hand on the soldier's neck. Blue eyes twitch at the attempts to free him but it only makes her hold get tighter.

"Tell me you fucking bastard." Glinda says as tears roll down her face. His lips start to turn a light blue and his body is slowly going limp. She wants the information now, she doesn't care if he lives or dies. Elphaba is getting scared because she is afraid she won't be able to stop this. A part of her is frightened for she has never seen such anger and intense hatred in those blue eyes. She has to try harder.

"I said stop!" The green woman shouts as she manages to rip the hand away from the neck and twirls the good witch towards her. The soldier collapse to the ground while holding his throat and coughing hard. That was really close. The blonde is breathing heavily as she looks up to her concern green lover.

"Why did you stop me?" Glinda questions with venom in her voice. Elphaba barely flinches when a fist hits her on the shoulder. She knows the good witch is extremely upset and won't let her affect her. She will be by her side forever. Nothing will change that.

"Why did you? Why? Why?!"

The green woman lets Glinda continue to hit her with each punctuation before grabbing hold of each arm and stares deeply into the tears stained face before pulling her lover into her body for a back breaking hug. The blonde breaks down the second she is in the protective yet loving embrace. Elphaba rests her head on top of her lover's and ignores her own pain while she tries to rid Glinda of her own.

The battle has been over for a mere couple of hours and it was a hard fought one but the Animals had won out in the end. There were casualties on both sides but none greater than the death of Silver, who died protecting Glinda from a soldier's bullet. The good witch has been taking his death the hardest. She is blaming herself for causing his death.

Elphaba is watching from a short distance as Glinda sobs overs the fresh grave where Silver's body has been buried. Tears burn down the green cheeks while she watches the grief filled scene before her. Nothing she has said before really brought her lover any type of comfort. So here she is watching vigilantly, in case the Gale Force try to back track and attack again, while Glinda is laying Silver lilies on the grave.

"I'm so sorry my friend." The blonde whispers as she sets the flowers on the mound of dirt before putting her hands onto her lap. Her jaw clenches tightly as she swallows hard. She will make sure his death will not be in vain. The blonde will have her revenge eventually. Glinda sniffles as she wipes away her tears but new ones just replace them. The guilt weighs heavily on her shoulders. If she was just more aware of her surroundings Silver wouldn't have had to sacrifice himself to save her. Her blue eyes stare at the gravesite and sniffles some more. There is one thing she has to do before they head to the Emerald City and take care of the Wizard permanently. The good witch gives a jump when something tightly wraps around her body with cloves filling her nose.

"Elphie." Glinda whispers with her voice wavering greatly when she realizes it's her lover holding her in her arms. Elphaba removes one of her hands from the lithe body and moves it up to the chin area. She cups the chin and turns the blonde's face towards her.

"Don't" Glinda says weakly when she sees the green woman about to use her finger to wipe away her tears. She has caused enough pain already. The blonde turns around until her face is mere inches from Elphaba's face. Her eyes catch the burn marks marring the beautiful, emerald skin. She watches the corner of the eye twitch ever so slightly in pain when fresh tears slowly move down the slopes of the raven haired beauty's face. The guilt in her intensifies in the good witch because she has been so wrapped up in her own world she has forgotten about everybody who is grieving just like she is. Glinda reaches forward to gently wipes away the tears to stop the water burning her lover. She makes a mental note to have Fiyero get the rest of the ingredients to finish that potion. She then cups Elphaba's face and looks deeply in the soulful, brown eyes to see the pain embedded in them. Her thumbs caress the green flesh before leaning in and pressing her lips onto the waiting, green lips. The green woman closes her eyes and uses her arms to pull the blonde close to her body as possible as she can. This is a small step in the road of recovery. After a few seconds the two women pull apart but Elphaba puts her forehead on Glinda's.

"You're not alone, Glin. You do not have to grieve by yourself. I'm here for you. Fiyero is here for you and every Animal is too." The raven haired beauty says softly before kissing the forehead. The blonde closes her eyes then buries her face into her lover's chest for comfort. Elphaba rests her head on the golden mane and closes her eyes. Where ever Silver is she hopes he is watching over them.

Thus endeth the chapter. Another sad chapter I know but it will get happier for a little bit I swear before it goes down again. There is a hint in this chapter on what is going to happen in the next chapter. Though it is kind of obvious. Lol. The next chapter will be up in a couple of days. Until then!
