Ok…ok…I know I said I would update on Monday for this chapter but I thought it would be cruel for you all to wait one more day for this chapter. Sooo yeah, here it is…chapter 16 of 'Darkness of the Night'. It continues on with Glinda finding out that Silver has a daughter. *Cue the cheesy soap opera music* Anyways, I will let you read on and enjoy!

Chapter 16

"Lady Glinda, you finally came." The female Wolf finally speaks in a soft tone as she pads her way towards the wide eyed Glinda. The blonde's mouth opens and closes like a fish. She can't believe she found her. Tears spring to her eyes if only Silver could be here for this moment.

"My mother never gave up hope on my father saving me." She keeps on talking, making the good witch pause at hearing the words 'my mother'. This isn't Silver's mate but his daughter. She leans in closer to see her chest, underbelly, and paws are the same silver color as her father's fur color while the rest of her is jet black. Her eye color is the same emerald green as Silver. It makes her heart hurt so much at the reminder of her friend.

"Of course, I would but we will talk about it later. There is a fight going on." Glinda replies as she tries to stand up but her body screams in protest. She is about to go down in fatigue but the female Wolf quickly goes by her side and presses her side against the blonde for support.

"I'm Rain by the way."

The battle was hard fought and everybody fought with all of their strength but they conquered the camp. The captured Animals were free from their hell. It will take time for the Animals to regain their speech but they got their freedom and that is a start. Of course there were injuries but thankfully none were fatal. Fiyero will have a new scar on his chest when one of the soldiers used a sword in battle. Elphaba will have one of her right cheek from a bullet grazing her face. That soldier didn't survive the fight, Glinda made sure of that but she made sure nobody saw what she has done. The biggest surprise was finding out that Silver had a daughter. A beautiful black and silver Wolf named Rain. She was born in the camp and with what speech she had left her mother taught her how to speak in secret. It seems her mother never gave up the hope they would be rescued until the day she died by the Gale Force's hand.

Glinda gives a hiss of pain before giving a hard look to Elphaba, who is busy cleaning up the wound on the blonde's side. She received it by protecting a Lioness.

"If you would stop squirming it wouldn't hurt so much." Elphaba chides gently as she continues to wipe the six inch long wound with a cloth dipped in a cleaning alcohol. The blonde sticks her tongue out at her lover before looking forward only to have a frown appear on her face. Not too far from the two witches is Rain, sitting somberly before Silver's grave. It was hard to tell the Wolf that her father has died. Glinda couldn't bear looking at Rain because she looked so heart broken when she realized that she will never meet her father. So when they returned back to the compound did the good witch show her where her father laid. She has been watching over her in a protective way. She will make sure that the Wizard will never lay a hand on her again. Since Glinda has refused to go inside to get her injury taken care of the green woman has taken upon herself to do the duty of dressing her lover's wound.

"Maybe if it didn't burn so much I wouldn't be squirming." The good witch replies with a slight smirk on her face. She closes her eyes when the raven haired beauty leans in and places an affectionate kiss on her cheek. It makes the pain fade away a bit.

"It just means its working." Elphaba whispers into her ear before kissing her cheek again. The pale cheeks redden slightly and a small smile graces the pink lips. She knows the green lover is trying to cheer her up. She knows Glinda is feeling bad that Rain will never know Silver because he died protecting her. Elphaba starts to hum softly while she starts to dress the wound. She is trying to keep that smile on the good witch's face. She watches her lover's body slowly start to relax the longer she continues to hum. That is a good sign. The green woman gently finishes up covering the wound before pulling down the black shirt Glinda is wearing. Elphaba leans over and places a loving kiss on the blonde's shoulder.

"All done." She whispers as Glinda turns towards her then lifts up the head of her lover until she leans in for a kiss. The two women kiss for a couple of seconds until there is a soft clearing of the throat. They both give a blush and pull away with Elphaba scratching the back of her head. Rain is standing in front of them with her green eyes looking on with much amusement.

"Sorry, did I interrupt?" The Wolf asks with her tail swishing behind her. The blonde clears her throat before shaking her head no.

"Uh…no, you weren't. How are you doing?" Glinda asks while casting a side glance to the green woman, who shifts slightly away from her to ease any awkwardness there is. Rain sniffles and wipes her nose with her paw. She's sad that she will never know her father but she will honor his memory by helping the Animal Resistance.

"I'm ok. I have stories from my mom about him and from everybody here who knew him. He lives on through me." The she Wolf replies with her eyes smiling. Glinda nods her head with a soft smile. It's true. She has Silver in her not just in the color of her eyes but in the soft tone in her voice and she always thinks before she speaks. It does alleviate some of the guilt the blonde is bearing because even though she didn't rescue his mate she did rescue the daughter he never knew.

"That's right. He lives on through you." Elphaba replies as she looks to Rain. The Wolf's ears go straight up and she gives a happy yip. Her ears twitch when they pick up the sound of many footsteps walking towards them. Both women turn their heads around to see who Rain is staring at. Fiyero gives a wave to all three of them with the Tiger cub hot on his heels.

"He's tall, handsome and great with kids."
Elphaba and Glinda slowly turn their eyes back towards Rain when they hear her voice speaking softly. The she Wolf's ears go flat against her head when she realizes she actually spoke her thoughts out loud.

"Uh…did I say that out loud?" Rain asks with a nervous chuckle. She looks away to regain her composure when Fiyero stands behind the two witches with a smile. The Tiger cub sits right by his side with a purr. The Tiger cub's parents were killed in the ambush by the Gale Force so Fiyero became his surrogate father figure and the two of them have quickly bonded. The Tiger Cub follows him around everywhere he goes.

"How are my ladies?" The Winkie prince asks as he looks towards the two witches and Rain. The she Wolf gives a soft giggle while awkwardly rubbing her head.

"I'm good." She answers first while Elphaba and Glinda stare at her with a bemused look. The green woman gives her lover a look before moving her eyes towards the black and silver Wolf to silently ask the blonde what her issues is. The blonde gently nudges her with a chuckle. It is clear Rain is already infatuated with him. Maybe she can play match maker here.

"Elphie just finished dressing up my wound." Glinda replies as she reaches over and affectionately caresses the wound on the right green cheek. Elphaba grabs hold of the hand to place a kiss on the open palm with love. Rain watches the obviously deeply in love women with a pan of jealously. She has been confined in a cage her whole life and never has had the chance to love somebody like how the two witches love each other. The she Wolf turns her head around to observe her father's grave site or have the love like her mom had for her father. Her ears twitch when Fiyero's timber voice enters them. She can feel her heart skip a beat when he speaks.

"I'm glad you're all patched up now. I helped make a banquet for our victory and in memory of all we lost." He says as he bends over with a slight wince and gently picks up the Tiger cub when he notice the cub put his paws up towards him. The Tiger cub gives a happy squeak before playfully batting Fiyero's hands when he wiggles his fingers in front of the golden eyes. The Winkie prince gives a deep chuckle with his blue eyes sparkling with much affection for the young Animal. Rain's tail swishes in thought. She will have to get to know him better because he has defiantly caught her eyes.

"Good, I'm starving." Glinda replies as she grabs the extended green hand and with a painful grunt stands up with assistance. She wipes away any debris clinging to her clothing then looks to Rain with a smile.

"You coming?"

Green eyes look to the three humans and the Tiger cub before looking to the Compound that is behind them. A smile appears on her face. She may have lost her parents but she has gain a new family. The thought of this makes her heart will with warmth. She is where she belongs now.

"I am!" She yips before running towards everybody with her tail high in the air. Glinda watches all of them walking back towards the Compound but she doesn't join them right away. There is something she needs to do first. The good witch looks back to the quiet forest before holding her hand out. She starts to mutter a spell under her breath. She is making sure the Wizard can't touch her home again by making a bubble over the Compound along with a few acres of forest. The Animals along with what few humans live here can come and go freely but people who wish to bring harm won't be able to breach the barrier.

"Glinda! Hurry up before Fiyero and Rain eat all of the food!" Elphaba calls out to her lover. The blonde turns around with a huge smile on her face. The green woman is standing near the open door with a hand on her hip. For the first time in her life Glinda feels like she belongs.

"Coming!" She yells before running towards the entrance to eat with her family.

Thus endeth the chapter. Only a tiny bit angst in this chapter because of Rain finding out her father is dead and will never get to know him. Overall, I think it was a nice little chapter. Rain already has the hots for Fiyero. Lol. That is one potential pairing for story. I'm still toying with that. The bubble protection spell I got it from Oz, the Great and Powerful with that Glinda putting one up to protect the citizens of Oz. The next update will be on Tuesday. Until then!
