Hello all! Welcome to the next chapter of 'Darkness of the Night'! It is officially Wednesday! This chapter will be a heavy Glinda/Elphaba stuff. Half of it is going to be in a dream like sequence and that will be in italics then rest will be in the normal lettering. You will see a small glimpse of their time at the Emerald City before they met the Wizard in the dream. That's all I will say about that. You have to read the rest! So I will be quiet and let you read on. Enjoy!
Chapter 17
Blue eyes are wide as an owl's eyes while Glinda takes in the wondrous, green sight that is the Emerald City. She has always heard the stories about how beautiful the city made of emerald is from her parents. This is her first time actually being in the magnificent city. Even Elphaba can't believe that. The blonde tuts her when the green woman brings up the disbelief that this her first visit to the Emerald City. She assumed this would been like the hundredth time the blonde has been here. It seems like it's the complete opposite. Elphaba detects a hidden sadness in the voice as the blonde spoke about her parents always visiting the glowing city. She can get the hint that Glinda's parents aren't around much. It clicked in her head that maybe that's why she is always boisterous and always surrounded by people. It's to mask her feeling of sadness mixed with loneness brought on from her absent parents. Come to think of it Elphaba realized she barely saw her lover's parents whenever she visited their house. The two of them are more alike than the green woman realized.
Elphaba is a few inches behind the in awe woman with a huge smile on her face. It is so good to see her lover genuinely happy and enjoying the sights all around her, like young children in a candy store.
"Elphie, this is amazing. Thank you for bringing me along. I'll never forget this."
The raven haired beauty looks towards the voice to see the blonde has stopped walking and turns towards her. Brown eyes soften as Elphaba walks towards her. There is nobody else she would have by her side when she meets the Wizard.
"I couldn't bear being away from you." The green woman replies as she stops in front of the blonde. A green had reaches forward and affectionately brushes her fingers against the pale cheek. Blue eyes close with pink lips stretching into a smile. Glinda is enjoying the comfortable silence with her green lover and her presence. It's very soothing to her.
"Let's get married."
Glinda snaps open her eyes in a second at hearing these words being uttered. That has to be run by her again. They haven't sunk in just yet. It sounded like the green woman just asked her to marry her.
"P-Pardon?" The blonde stammers in dumbfoundness. Elphaba has been staring at a jewelry store window when she notices a pair of golden wedding band sparking at her. It made her say what she said. The raven haired beauty looks back to her wide eyed lover with sparkling eyes.
"Marry me."

"Do you take Elphaba Thropp to be your wife?"
Glinda listens to the priest say these words in a tiny chapel the two women found that is willingly to do a quick wedding. She had said yes to the unexpected proposal and with her money bought the pair of wedding bands. Now she is here squirming in anticipation on the inside. She stares at the beautiful woman before her and her heart skips a beat. Soon she will be with this woman for the rest of her life. This has never felt more right in her life.
"I do." The blonde answers with confidence. Elphaba inhales deeply with tears coming to her eyes. This is the happiest moment in her life. Glinda watches green fingers delicately slide the cool band onto her left ring finger. Glinda inhales deeply when it fits perfectly on her finger.
"It's perfect." She whispers before looking up to view her wife. She gives a horrified gasp when a sword is suddenly thrust through Elphaba's chest.
"Elphaba?"
The green woman looks to her chest to view the bloody sword poking out from her chest before looking back towards a shock Glinda.
"Glinda…" She manages to say before she collapses to the ground.
"Elphaba!" The blonde shouts with tears running down her face. An evil laughter starts to echo in the empty chapel. The blonde watches as the Wizard materialize next to Elphaba's body to only bend over and cruelly yank out the sword from the unmoving body. He looks at her with a twisted smile on his face while Glinda watches on in horror.
"You can't save her from me. She will die by my hands." He says before he pulls back the sword and swings it towards Glinda's head.

The blonde juts up from her sleeping positing with a gasp along with her whole body being covered in sweat. Her chest is heaving in the terror from the dream she just had or really a nightmare. She bends over slightly while putting a hand over her eyes but that was a bad idea. The image of the sword being run through her wife's chest is there waiting for her in cruel anticipation.
"Fuck." Glinda curses softly while pulling her hand away from her face. Blue eyes quickly move to her left side to check on the sleeping Elphaba. A sense of relief washes over her when she can hear the soft breathing coming from the woman next to her.
"Thank Oz." She whispers as she leans over and touches her forehead against the cool green cheek. The nightmare is still very fresh in her mind. A chill goes down her spine making her flesh break out in goosebumps. Is it just a nightmare or something more than just a bad dream?
"Glin, what is it?" a sleepy voice whispers by her forehead. The sheets rustle while Elphaba rolls onto her back. Glinda backs up slightly to let her lover maneuver without her being in the way. The blonde is silently berating herself for even waking up her green lover from her peaceful night of sleep when she should have just gotten out of bed like she usually does when she can't sleep.
"Glinda?" The green woman asks with concern while she reaches up and cups a pale cheek. Her eyebrows draw together when her flesh starts to sting. She knows that sign of distress very well and the silence coming from Glinda is another sign. The blonde had a nightmare. She always had these symptoms ever since their time at Shiz.
"What did you see?" The raven haired beauty asks while she pushes off the bed to get into a sitting position. Glinda turns her head away with a sniffle with a finger rubbing her nose. It's now or never because Elphaba won't leave her alone until she talks.
"I was having a nice dream about our wedding." The good witch starts off as she twists the golden band around her left ring finger. Brown eyes dart away at hearing about their wedding being in the dream. She looks back at Glinda to hear the rest.
"You were killed by the Wizard after we said our vows. He said you will die by his hands and I can't save you from him." The blonde voice wavers greatly with tears slowly rolling down her cheeks. That last part was so hard to get out. She inhales deeply when strong, lanky arms wrap around her shaking body before pulling her into the warm body of her wife.
"It was just a dream. Nothing more." Elphaba says strongly while her fingers run through the sweaty, blonde locks. She inhales sharply when she feels her lover rips herself from her embrace and gets off the bed.
"It didn't feel like a dream, Elphaba." Glinda shoots back while she walks towards the lone window in the room with a soft wince coming from the green woman. It's never a good sign when she hears her full name. Brown eyes watch the good witch rub her forehead with a shaky exhale before putting her hands on the windowsill and leans forward.
"I can't lose you to the Wizard too." Glinda whispers before she hangs her head low with her hands turning into fists. She will be damned if the Wizard claims another life of somebody she loves.
"You won't." The sultry voice floats into her ear then a soft pressure comes onto her shoulder. The good witch lifts her head up to look at the starry night with a heavy heart. There are no guarantees that her green lover will be safe not until the Wizard is dealt with.
"How can you promise something like that?" She questions as she turns around to get a good view of Elphaba. Green lips twist while brown eyes cast away in thought, trying to think of something to respond to that question. Glinda crosses her arms while waiting for anything to come from her wife.
"That's what I thought." The blonde whispers with a soft sigh. This just seems like a pointless conversation they are having. Maybe it's better to just to end it now and go for a quiet walk by herself.
"Hey! Don't run away from me." The green woman exclaims as she grabs Glinda by the arm when she starts to push past her. At least this part of the good witch hasn't changed. She still runs away when she doesn't want to talk about something she doesn't want to. It oddly brings her comfort after seeing a different side of her lover during her time here.
"This conversation isn't over."
She gently pulls her back in front of her. Glinda swallows hard because she doesn't want to keep talking. It will just upset her even more.
"I know this dream has unsettled you but you can't walk away when it gets tough like you always do. I'm your lover, your wife damn it. I'm here for you now. Talk to me." Elphaba says as she affectionately caresses the pale cheek with the back of her hand. The good witch subconsciously closes her eyes at the familiar touch. It still makes her insides melt into a gooey mess of love and warmness. A part of her still feels a strangeness to have Elphaba back into her life after all these years of watching from afar. It's especially strange to be called a wife again.
"I just got you back in my life, Elphie. I'm just afraid you will be ripped from me again more now than ever because the Wizard will be targeting me now that Silver is dead." Glinda confesses with her voice thick with various emotions. Soulful, brown eyes move back and forth before green hands cup the blonde's face.
"You'll never lose me even if I die."
Glinda's bottom lip trembles at hearing this sentence. She doesn't want to think about that not after the nightmare she had.
"I'll always be in your heart but I'm here now and that all that matters." The green woman replies while using the pads of her thumbs to rub the tear stained cheeks with love, ignoring the pin pricks of her skin burning from the water. She leans down and places a deep kiss on the pink lips when they start to move to have words come out from them. There will be no more words exchanged between them.
"Shh…no more talking." Elphaba whispers against the lips before returning her lips on them. The good witch inhales deeply when she feels herself being pushed up against the wall along with the green lips move in a firmer way. There will be defiantly be no more talking between them. Elphaba ignores a sudden fire on the back of her neck when finger nails rake down her flesh. All that matters is that she will make Glinda forget her nightmares for one night.
Thus endeth the chapter. I hope you liked this Gelphie centered chapter. Poor Glinda for having that nightmare of the Wizard killing Elphaba or is it more then just a nightmare? At least Elphaba was there to make her feel better. The next chapter is going to have no angst in this one. It will have Fiyero, Rain, Glinda and Elphaba in it along with making appearances in that order too. The next chapter will be up on Saturday. Until then!
