Hello all and welcome to chapter 19 of 'Darkness of the Night' and this chapter will be a very interesting chapter. All I will say about it is that it starts off with a game of chess between Elphaba and Fiyero, who has Ares by his side. Yes, Ares makes an appearance after missing from two chapters. From the beginning of the first chapter till now about a year or so has passed. So Ares will be bigger and will be talking better along with his fatherly bond with Fiyero has grown. As I said in the last chapter there will be a special appearance by a character but you will have to read to find out who it is. I will stop talking and let you read on. So read and enjoy!

Chapter 19

Elphaba purses her lips while she taps her bottom lip with her finger in thought. She is staring at a chess board, thinking about what move to make. Fiyero is sitting across from her with his head resting on the palm of his head while he is waiting patiently for her to make a move. It has to be at least ten minutes he has been waiting for her to make a move. It just made him think on why he agreed to play her when she always kicks his ass in chess. Finally green fingers reach forward and move the knight to its new space.

"Son of a bitch." Fiyero whispers to himself when Elphaba effectively puts a stop to his strategy by taking his rook away. With a smirk the green woman sets his piece on her side. She saw that a mile away. He knows has to try better than that.

"Nice try." Elphaba says as she plucks some grass from the ground to which she watches the wind blow the blades of grass off the palm of her hand. The Winkie prince sticks his tongue out at her with good nature.

"I'll beat you one day." Fiyero replies to the smug witch while he rubs his chin to think of what move he should do next. The blonde blinks his eyes when he see an orange and block strip colored tail snake over the board to wrap around the queen to move it to the left to knock the white knight off the board. It then sets the queen down in its new space. Elphaba's eyes widen before looking to the growing Tiger cub that is by the prince's side. Ares is sitting next to Fiyero and already he is half a foot taller than the Winkie prince. The Tiger has been growing like a weed lately. It's ridiculous really. So to even call him a cub anymore is not the proper term for the growing Tiger. Though she can't think about that very much because this young Animal is throwing her off her game right now and it's not fair that Ares is helping Fiyero out.

"Hey! That's cheating." She protests while she watches Fiyero pick up the knight to put it on his side. It's not his fault that the green woman didn't say that Ares couldn't play with them. The young Animal gives a loud purr when Fiyero affectionately rubs his head.

"Good boy."

"Thank you, dad." Ares replies with a deeper voice. It's still weird to hear that timber voice coming out of his mouth for she is so use to hear it being a higher pitch mixed in random cuteness. She can see that it makes the prince's heart warm up to hear being called dad from the young Animal. Their bond has really grown since the day he held him in his arms while the Gale Force attacked the compound. She watches as Ares rubs his head under his foster father's neck with love. Elphaba tries not to smile at the cuteness before her because Ares is messing up her winning streak against the Winkie Prince... Fiyero wraps his arm around the Tiger's thick body while looking at her with a smirk.

"It's not cheating. You didn't say he could help me." He shots back with his blue eyes sparkling in laughter at the situation that just happened. The green woman gives a huff as she looks at the board to rethink her strategy since the Tiger can play now too. A light bulb goes off in her head. She thought of something to do to mess with him.

"You know Rain had a massive crush on you." She says casually before moving a pawn forward. Fiyero nearly knocks over one of his pieces when he hears this. He clears his throat while tugging at his shirt. That thought never crossed his mind when he was around the Wolf. Ares sees his distraction and moves a piece for him. The Tiger is enjoying this very much because he is spending time with Fiyero and Elphaba

"I…uh…she did?" The Winkie prince asks with a stutter in his voice. Elphaba gives a slight frown because Ares is still playing for him. Tiger has picked up on the game fast in the few times he's watched the two of them play

"You haven't noticed? She has been drooling over you since she got here." The green woman as she makes her next move. The Winkie prince twists his lips in thought and taps his finger on his knee. The two of them have been getting along very well but he hasn't notice if she has shown interest in him. He thinks of her as a very good friend and always enjoyed having her around. He also feels very protective of her just like he is with Elphaba, Glinda, and Ares. Somebody has to make sure all of them will be safe.

"I…uh...did not."

He takes another white piece off the board with a silent curse coming from Elphaba. Her strategy isn't working but she isn't surprised he hasn't notice that Rain is interested in him. The prince can be so thick headed sometimes.

"Well, you two would have made a cute couple." The green woman continues to speak while making her next move. Ares reaches over the board, with his tail, to help his adoptive father out. He gives a laugh when he hears a frustrated sigh coming from the woman across the board. Ares is really enjoying this. Fiyero scratches the back of his head when he hears this while his cheeks redden slightly. He hasn't thought about the she Wolf in that way.

"Thanks." He mumbles before the three of them lapse into a comfortable silence. They continue to play with Ares occasionally helping Fiyero out.

"Elphie!"

The raven haired beauty picks up her head with a smile when she hears the melodic voice of her wife that comes with the wind. She gives a laugh as she leans forward when she feels a weight come on her back with arms wrapping around her neck in a loving way. Goosebumps break out on her skin when a warm breath hits her ear. Suddenly chess isn't on her mind anymore.

"Ares, Fiyero…mind if I borrow Elphaba for a while?" Glinda asks while resting her head on the green woman's shoulder. Fiyero looks up with a smile while Ares moves one of his pieces for him.

"You can because I think we just won." He replies as he looks down at the board with a smirk. Ares puffs out his chest as Elphaba looks down to see if it's true. She gives a grumble before knocking over her king when she sees that it is indeed checkmate Glinda gives a soft coo and kisses her cheek for comfort. Elphaba rarely loses at chess so this loss must really sting for her.

"I'll make it up to you later. How about that?" The blonde says huskily while Fiyero covers up Ares's ears with a look. The green skin darkens to a deep emerald at hearing those words. Maybe she should lose more often.

"There is a child present." The prince states with his hands still covering the oblivious Tiger, who is just smiling innocently at all three of them... The good witch gives a soft laugh and helps Elphaba up into the standing position.

"He isn't a cub anymore, Fiyero. Good luck when you have to give him the talk." She replies as she grabs one of the green hands to tug her green lover away. Fiyero watches Ares wave goodbye to the retreating witches before removing his hands from his ears. He looks at his foster son with a soft smile.

"I hope you find somebody to love like those two love each other, Ares" Fiyero says to the Tiger.

The two witches walk hand in hand down a beaten path that is within the protection bubble. There are no words passed between them as they are enjoying each other's company. Elphaba gives a happy sigh before bringing a pale hand up to place a loving kiss on it. Glinda's checks go to a deep red and let's loose a giddy giggle. The green woman still makes her feel like that young girl at Shiz when she does a sweet gesture like that.

"I love you, Elphaba." The blonde says while looking to her lover with sparkling eyes. Elphaba slows her footsteps down and tugs on the hand to tell Glinda to stop walking. The good witch walks back with a confused look on her face. She wonders what is happening to make them stop walking.

"Elphie?"
Her head does a flip when the raven haired beauty suddenly gets down on one knee and holds up a ring with a pink diamond set in it. They never had a proper engagement when they were younger. Elphaba thought it is long overdue especially now they've been together for nearly a year now and it has been quiet on the Wizard's side. So she had Fiyero get her a ring when he went out to get the ingredients for the potion to take away her water allergy.

"Glinda, I want to do this right this time especially now I have you back in my life. We were young and naïve before but this time is different. Will you do the honor of marrying me again?" Elphaba asks with hope in her eyes that Glinda will say yes just like before. She thinks they deserve a do over with their marriage when she abandoned the blonde not soon after they were married in that chapel in the Emerald City. Tears start to roll down Glinda's cheeks while she is staring at the ring. She can't believe this is happening again. This time she knows Elphaba won't leave her alone when they are working together to take down the Wizard. The good witch doesn't need to think about her answer.

"Yes."

The green woman can feel her own tears running down her face and for the first time it doesn't burn her. She sniffles as she slides the ring on Glinda's left ring finger, right in front of the golden band. She gets to her feet before kissing her lover with much love. Glinda closes her eyes before cupping the back of the green woman's neck. Elphaba wraps her arms around the lithe waist to pull her lover closer to her body. It's time she set things right with their broken marriage.

"My, my, my…what a touching display of love."

The two women break their kiss at the sound of the voice nearby. Two sets of eyes widen in shock at who is standing a few feet from them.

"Madam Morrible." Glinda says with trepidation in her voice. A bad feeling has set like a stone in her stomach. This can't be good with Madam Morrible is right in front of them She takes a step forward to have Elphaba behind her in a protective way. She won't let their former headmistress hurt her wife.

"Hello girls." Morrible says cheerfully before she puts a hand up and taps the space before her. She gives a soft hmmm when the force field, Glinda has erected, ripples from where it has been touched. The good witch swallows hard. Morrible is one of the most powerful witches in all of Oz who probably could take down the field in a blink of an eye. Her only concern is to get Elphaba away from the former headmistress with no care about her safety.

"My, this is very good spell you put up, Glinda." Morrible praises slightly as she casts her eyes onto the good witch with an evil smirk on her face. Elphaba stares her down with harden, brown eyes. The raven haired beauty takes a step forward. She is showing that she isn't intimidated by Morrible.

"What do you want?" She demands as her blonde lover pushes her back with a shush. There is no need to escalate this encounter if all Morrible wants to do is talk. Morrible locks eyes with the green woman with a deep chuckle.

"I'm here to speed up the plan." She answers as she puts a hand against the force field then the palm of her hand glows. The field shatters like glass and it sparkles as it falls to the ground after Morrible easily destroys the spell Glinda put up. Anxiety fills up the blonde's body the second the protection spell fell. The Compound and every inhabitant living there is vulnerable to an attack.

"Elphaba, run. Inform Fiyero of what has happened. Get everybody prepared for a potential attack." The blonde tries to speak as fast as she can as the right hand woman to the Wizard is slowly walking towards them. The green woman doesn't budge because she will not leave her wife's side to do battle with Morrible.

"That won't be necessary. I came here for one thing." Morrible responds while folding her hands in front of her when she stops a few feet in front of the on guard witches. What does that mean? Glinda gives a shout of surprise when she feels her feet leave the ground and goes flying backwards. Stars come bursting from her eyes when her head finally connects with the ground. She gives a groan of pain while the blonde is still lying on the ground. She is slowly recovering from the spell Morrible just used on her.

"Glinda!"

Elphaba's voice seems to fade away from her. The blonde holds her head while she forces herself to sit up. Her heart stops beating when she sees Morrible taking her wife away from her. She must be using a spell to capture the green woman.

"Elphaba!"

Glinda struggles to get to her feet but stumbles to her knees not soon after she tried running after the retreating figure. The good witch holds her hand out with tears streaming down her face with her heart shattering into tiny pieces. The two women are getting smaller and smaller by the second. She can't believe her worst fears are coming true.

"ELPHABA!"

Thus endeth the chapter. Poor Glinda, she just got proposed to by Elphaba only for Elphaba to be taken away by Madam Morrible. I wonder why she has done that when she could have taken the two of them. What plans does the Wizard have for the green woman? What will Glinda do now that Elphaba is in the hands of the Wizard? Well…you will have until Thursday for the answer for those questions! Haha! Until then my faithful readers.
