Hello all! Welcome to the next chapter of 'Darkness of the Night'. It is the next day after defeating the Wizard. It is an Elphaba and Glinda scene. Some things with be answered. I'm sorry that this chapter will be kind of short this time around. I'll try and make it up to you with the next chapter. Anyways, read and enjoy this chapter!

Chapter 26

Elphaba is resting very peacefully in the queen sized bed of Glinda's old room. She has never fallen asleep so fast in her life for the bed was as soft and light as feathers. One of her eyes shot open when a creak is heard in the room. From all the years being a fugitive Elphaba has learned to be always aware of her surroundings even when she is sleeping. There is an intruder in the room. The green woman quickly sits up with her body ready to fight whoever is in the room. She knew what that soldier said was a lie. Somebody is here to murder them when their guard is down.

Creak

Brown eyes turn towards the noise to see, with much relief, Glinda sitting on the stool in front of the vanity mirror. She watches her wife lean back with another creek and flips her blonde hair behind her shoulder. Thank Oz it's just the blonde making all the noise. Elphaba pulls the blanket off of her and swings her legs over the edge. Glinda turns around at hearing movement behind her.

"I'm sorry, Elphie. Did I wake you?" The good witch asks guilty as she watches her wife give a big stretch before standing up. Elphaba looks to her with a smile and a shake of the head. She is wondering what Glinda is doing up before her. It's a far cry to the young woman at Shiz who would almost oversleep her classes if Elphaba hadn't always woken her up.

"What are you doing?"

The blonde looks at the letters in her hand with a slight sigh. She had a stack of these waiting for her. Some of them are from Tidus, some from the Governors of the regions in Oz, and some are from the editors of the press. Word has spread like wild fire apparently. She should have expected this.

"Reading letters. Tidus reports that Madam Morrible has fled the Emerald City or that's what they think because she wasn't in the palace when they searched for her. Also, the power stripping potion worked on Oscar. So we don't have to worry about him escaping with magic. Oh! Nessa wrote you a letter." Glinda answers as she picks up a letter to show her wife. Elphaba cocks her head slightly at hearing her sister wrote to her. She bets that the blonde is wondering why Nessa would write to her. She has to tell her what happened before the fight and how the two sisters are on their way to rekindle their sistership. Though she will have to read it later. The good witch puts it down before putting a hand to her forehead. This is still too overwhelming for her plus the guilt she has bearing for the secrets she has withheld from her wife is getting to be unbearable.

"Glinda?"
Glinda cocks her head to the side slightly as she comes back to reality. She didn't realize she spaced out on Elphaba for the past couple of minutes.

"Whats up?" The green woman asks as she sits down on the foot of the bed. She watches the blonde fidget in her seat before looking to her with slight smile then she looks down at her hands like she is ashamed of something.

"I'm sorry."
Elphaba's eyebrows twitch slightly at the vague apology but she has a feeling where this is going. She inhales slightly with her hands tightening up. The raven haired beauty has to have an understanding mind set because the two of them could get into an argument which is something she doesn't want to happen not after what they've just been through.

"For what?"
Glinda gives her that look that says you know what I'm talking about. She puts a hand on her bandage throat. She hopes they can talk it all out before her voice starts to give out on her.

"For not telling you about the potion and not telling you Oscar is your father." She replies as she lets her hand drop away from her neck. Elphaba flinches slightly at the thought of the Wizard being her real father. She hoped that Glinda just said that to throw him off his guard but it seems that her wife is very certain about this. The green woman shifts uncomfortably on the bed.

"Why didn't you tell me? Why did I have to learn second hand?" Elphaba questions while trying not to let the hurt creep in her voice. It does hurt her that the good witch didn't come to her right away when she finally learned of this knowledge. It's something that shouldn't be swept under the rug. Blue eyes dart to the left in guilt. She rubs her hands slightly. She had a whole speech planned out in her head but now that she actually is talking to her wife she can't remember it.

"I didn't know how to approach you about it. It's not exactly dinner conversation plus I didn't know how you'd react." Glinda admits as she looks back to her hard to read wife. Green lips twist in thought after hearing this. Then a soft sigh escapes the lips as Elphaba runs her fingers through her messy, raven locks. She wished she had gotten a shower before they started to talk.

"You never game me a chance. What? Did you think I would join him the instant I knew?"

"No!"

Elphaba blinks her eyes slightly at hearing the forceful answer followed by a painful wince. Glinda puts a hand back to her throat. She didn't mean to yell like that.

"No, I didn't. I just…I didn't know how to say that our enemy is your father." The blonde replies while she lowers her voice with a clearing of the throat. Elphaba purses her lips in thought after hearing that. She can see how difficult it must have been for her wife to say.

"I probably wouldn't have reacted very well. I still can't believe it." The green woman replies truthfully. It's just so mind boggling that he man she first idolize then it turned into disgust and hatred for all that he has done is her true father. Boy, it is a downgrade from Frexspar.

"And he never knew until you said something?"
Glinda shakes her head no. From his reaction it was made clear that he didn't know at all.

"From what his reaction was it was clear that he didn't know." The blonde answers. The two women fall into a comfortable silence as the two digest what has spoken between the two of them. Brown eyes look to a thoughtful Glinda. She wonders what is going through her mind. A part of her doesn't like it especially since she use to read her wife's emotions like a book. Glinda has perfected how to mask what she is feeling over the years and that's how she couldn't tell that Glinda has been hiding these secrets

"Why didn't you tell me about what you did to the potion?" The raven haired beauty asks the other burning question that is on her mind. Glinda's lips twitch at this. She is glad that she did what she did and she will not apologize for what she did.

"You would have disagreed with it the second I would have brought it up." She answers as she stands up from her stool. When she does that Elphaba gets to her feet as well. There is a slight tension in the air now.

"You didn't even bring it up for us to discuss. You just did it." Elphaba retorts with her hands on her hips. The blonde licks her lips. Nothing her wife can say will change her mind.

"And I'm glad I did. You would still be dead and gods know where we all would be. Not here for damn sure." The blonde pauses as her throat tightens up in pain and emotions. All those nightmares of Elphaba dying by Oscar's hand are coming to the surface.

"I couldn't lose you again. I-I have to go." She whispers before she quickly walks out of the room with tears pushing up.

"Glinda…wait." The green woman replies as she starts to follow her wife so they could keep talking but Glinda is much quicker so the door slams in her face. Elphaba gives a frustrated sigh before she puts her forehead onto the cool wood. What a great start to what is supposed to be a good day now that the Wizard is gone. She will have to find her wife so the two of them can make up. The green woman pulls away to look at herself. She will have to look presentable next time around. So with a heavy heart she walks to the bathroom to clean up. After that it's time to start to search for the good witch.

I know I said that there really wouldn't be angst in the rest of the story but I couldn't resist because the two of them had that unresolved issues of the couple of secrets that Glinda withheld from Elphaba. Of course, the two of them will have their issues resolved in the next chapter. It will be a fluffy chapter maybe Ares will make an appearance with Fiyero. We will see. I will update on Friday for you all. Until then!
