Chapter 5: When All Else Fails… Run
Bonnie rushed around the kitchen like a mad woman trying to get dinner ready. She was happy that Damon left to get the things he needed for dessert because it gave her time to think clearly. Bonnie felt so mixed up about her feelings for Damon. The whole time that she has known him she hated him to the point of wanting him dead. Lately, she felt a real connection to him that went beyond lust and a sexual desire for him. Something real was happening between them and she was afraid to explore it. Forcing her brain off Bonnie went back to cooking and planning dinner. Bonnie decided to cook the last meal that her grandmother taught her. She was making chicken broccoli alfredo, homemade garlic bread, and salad.
"Yum smells good," Damon said coming out of nowhere and causing a small scream to come from Bonnie.
"Well I hope you are ready to eat Damon because dinner will be ready in five minutes, and will be served on the back patio." Bonnie suddenly felt uncomfortable and nervous about eating dinner with Damon. So did not like how at ease and comfortable they were with each other. She did not want to let another person into her life who could not stay. She knew how much he loved Elena and she did not want to get involved in that triangle.
"Great I am going to go wash up and I will be down in a few minutes. Damon quickly left the room leaving Bonnie alone with her awkward feelings. She walked to the back patio and enjoyed the smell of the salty ocean as she brought out dinner. The table setup was simply with small white candles decorating the center of the table on top of a sky blue tablecloth.
"Wow Bonnie you make me long for my human days with the smell of this food," Damon said smiling as he took his seat next to Bonnie.
"Thanks, this was the last recipe that Grams taught me and it's one of her favorites," Bonnie whispered with a sad and distant look in her eyes.
Dinner went well but they mainly sat in an uncomfortable silence. It felt as if they both wanted to say something but both lacked the courage.
"This is amazing Bonnie I did not know you could cook this well. Please feel free to cook for me anytime you want, he said with a smile. Bonnie, I noticed that you wear that simple silver heart ring on your right hand. Did a secret admirer give it to you?"
Bonnie eyes instantly fell to her ring and a sadness ran through her body. My mom gave me the ring when I was six years old before she left me and my dad. I kept it all these years because it makes me feel close to her. This ring is the only thing I have left from my mom and I cherish it so much because it reminds me of happy days," Bonnie tried to keep the tears from spilling from her eyes as she talked about her mother. Damon quickly grabbed her hand and stared deeply into her eyes.
"Bonnie your mom was a fool to leave you. She missed watching you grow into the beautiful young women you are today." Bonnie was left speechless by his sincerity as she wrapped her hands around his face and kissed him with all the passion inside of her. He kissed her back and dinner was quickly forgotten. Damon pushed his tongue into Bonnie's mouth and their tongues moved slowly causing a moan to escape Bonnie's mouth. Damon pushed all the food and dishes off the table and laid Bonnie on top of it. Damon was all over Bonnie like a man possessed as he placed kisses all over her neck as his hands roamed her body.
"Bonnie we have to stop this isn't what I want," Damon said getting off top of Bonnie and helping her sit up. Bonnie rubbed her hand through her hair and felt self-conscience like she was not good enough for Damon or she did something wrong.
"Damon I am sorry I shouldn't have done that," Bonnie said shyly refusing to look him in the eye.
"Look at me Bonnie," Damon said as he tenderly touched her cheek making her look at him. "Don't apologize I was the one who acted like a barbarian and threw everything off the table. I do want to be with you again just not like this. You deserve so much more than hot sex on a table. Also remember we still have dessert and I don't want you to ruin your appetite," Damon said with a mischievous grin on his handsome face.
"Well since dinner is clearly done we can move on to the next course," Bonnie said curiously wondering what he could have planned.
"I need some time to get ready but there is something waiting for you upstairs in the bedroom." Bonnie quickly left Damon to go upstairs her heart beating wildly as she opened the door to Damon's bedroom. Bonnie could not breathe as she stepped inside and noticed a large white box with a beautiful purple and silver bow on top of his bed. Nervous to open the box Bonnie opened the small envelope that was next to the box.
Dear Bonnie,
I wanted our last night at the beach house to be magical so I got a small present for you. Please don't be afraid this is all a part of my dessert plan. I really have enjoyed getting to know you better these past few days. I feel as if I am seeing you with brand new eyes and I hope we can continue this new friendship. Also thank you for last night it was special for me and I will never forget it.
Yours truly,
Damon
Slowly opening the box Bonnie wanted to faint as she looked at the gorgeous pink and black lace trim baby doll lingerie outfit. It also had a matching pink robe that went with it. Bonnie instantly became nervous because she had never worn anything so sexy. Bonnie wondered if Damon actually had dessert planned or if she was the main course. Suddenly throwing caution to the wind Bonnie found the courage to put on the lingerie. Staring at herself in the mirror she liked what she saw and she felt very sensual and beautiful. To complete her look Bonnie put her hair in loose flowing curls. Putting her robe and black high heels on she walked slowly down the stairs. As soon as Bonnie got close to the kitchen the sweet smell of chocolate filled the air. Damon was so busy working at the stove mixing chocolate that he did not notice Bonnie standing behind him.
"Thank you for the gift Damon," Bonnie said softly. Turning around Damon thought his eyes were going to fall out. Damon already knew that the pink and black would like great on Bonnie when he saw it at the mall. But the way the short pink robe hit her caramel skin made him made feel alive and excited.
"Bonnie, you look incredible I hope you are okay wearing that I just wanted something special for you," Damon said nervously. Bonnie could not help but smile at Damon appearing to be unsure about his decision. He was the king of confidence and now he looked lost for words.
"Damon, it's perfect I love it and I want to look good for you. So is dessert ready or did you have something else in mind?" Bonnie said as she lightly touched Damon's arm in a flirty way.
"Well beautiful you can sit in the living room in front of the fire and I will bring it out. Bonnie walked over nervously and sat on the couch in front of the fire place. As Bonnie watched the flames she became lost in her own thoughts as she questioned what her life will be like back in Mystic Falls without her Grams. Loneliness flooded her and she tried to shut that part of her mind off because tonight was all about Damon and the surprising connection they shared.
Bonnie was pulled away from her thoughts as she noticed Damon walking in carrying a tray of fruits, pretzels, and melted chocolate. Damon carefully sat next to Bonnie and laid the tray down on a nearby table.
"I hope you like chocolate because I melted milk, dark, and white chocolate for us to dip the fruit and pretzels in," Damon said while taking a strawberry and slowly dipping it in the dark chocolate. He carefully brought the strawberry to Bonnie's mouth as Bonnie took a bite of the strawberry while some of the juice ran down her face. Damon leaned forward and licked all the strawberry juice off her chin and lips. Bonnie tried to keep calm as her body felt hot and turned on from Damon's gently lick.
"Strawberry is now officially my favorite fruit as long as I can enjoy it off you," Damon said with a huge smile on his face. Bonnie quickly blushed and went for a piece of banana and dipped it in the white chocolate.
"Okay your turn Damon open up," Bonnie said as he seductively ate the banana not taking his eyes off Bonnie. Bonnie's stomach flipped as they continued to feed each other.
"I think I am in the mood for something sweeter than chocolate," Damon whispered in a low voice as he placed the chocolate back on the tray. Without speaking Damon lifted Bonnie off the couch and carried her upstairs to his room. Damon was caught up with desire as he slowly laid Bonnie down on his bed and removed her robe. Bonnie noticed that his beautiful blue eyes went dark and lustful as he looked over her body barely covered in the lingerie. Damon's hands were gentle as he removed the dress and admired Bonnie's naked body as the moonlight streamed into the room.
"You are the most beautiful person I have ever seen," Damon whispered as he carefully kissed her lips. Damon had no idea what came over him as he tenderly made love to Bonnie. It was slow and passionate and he worshiped every part of her body till exhaustion gripped them both.
Sleep did not conquer Bonnie as easily as it did Damon. Her body was satisfied but her heart was broken. Without her Grams how could she return to Mystic Falls and play the role of the towns savior? Bonnie knew that her job was to protect everyone but now she had no one who truly understood her or could take care of her. Bonnie's eyes found Damon's sleeping handsome face in the dark. He looked so peaceful and she would do anything if they could stay like this and be away from all the pain and chaos. Over the weekend Bonnie had seen many sides of Damon and she knew she could never go back to hating him. Deep down in her heart she wanted to explore their connection more, but she knew he only had feelings for Elena and she would be setting herself up for heartache. All Bonnie wanted was something real and tangible that was truly hers. All the people she cared about were gone or too busy to care about her needs, and she was done with the painful cycle.
An idea sprung into Bonnie's mind she knew it would hurt all her friends but it was her only escape. Bonnie quietly left the bed and said one of the first spells her Grams taught her. It was a sleeping spell and it would knock Damon out cold for the next 72 hours. Once Bonnie was sure the spell worked she looked at Damon for a long moment trying to memorize his beautiful sleeping face. Bonnie quickly packed her things, grabbed Damon's car keys, and left a note for him. Bonnie did not know where she was going she just drove Damon's car till she exhausted. She was able to find a small cheap hotel for the night so she could plan her next move. She did not have a plan all she knew was that she wanted to be free from the pain and that meant running from Mystic falls as fast as she could.
