Happy holidays! This is the last chapter. I may write a sequel, haven't decided yet, but here you go for now. :)

The moment the TARDIS landed Rose was the out the door. The Doctor knew she was worried about Violet. Mother and daughter had been apart for too long. He smiled to himself as he replayed those words in his mind. Mother and daughter. My daughter and Rose is her mum.

"So," Jack said, hovering near the console. "I guess this is goodbye then."

The Doctor caught his gaze. The impossible man. He gave Jack a smile.

"Not forever."

"Better not be," Jack replied, returning his smile. "Better not be another…" he eyed the Time Lord. "How long's it been for you?"

"Too long." The Doctor stepped toward him. "Awww, come here you."

He pulled Jack into a hug. Jack released him after a minute, resting his hands on the Doctor's shoulders.

"You're still too skinny."

"What'd you mean too skinny?"

He straightened his suit.

"And I still think the bowtie's a little weird."

The Doctor straightened his bowtie.

"Bowties are cool."

Jack laughed.

"Whatever you say, Doc."

"And don't you forget it."

Rose stepped back into the TARDIS, drawing the Doctor's attention. He hurried over to them with a smile plastered across his face. He couldn't help it. A family. A proper family and they were all his.

"She's sleeping," Rose said, giving him a smile and for the first time since he found her, she looked truly happy, more than that, content.

"Ah, well, they do that," he replied, gazing down at his daughter.

"You're not going to leave without saying goodbye, are you Rosie?" Jack asked, stepping closer.

The Doctor stepped back to give them room. He watched her give Jack a smile.

"You know me better than that Jack Harkness," she teased. "And this isn't goodbye. We'll be back, won't we, Doctor?"

She glanced at him, a bit of uncertainty creeping into her hazel eyes and he wanted nothing more than to banish that uncertainty forever.

"Anytime you like," he replied, giving her a smile.

She grinned, making his smile broaden at the way her eyes lit up.

"There now, see?" she asked, turning back to Jack.

The Doctor turned, while they talked, and headed toward the corridor. There was something he wanted to bring out of storage before he left. Something, he hoped, Rose would like.

Rose watched the Doctor disappear down the corridor. She knew he was giving her time to say goodbye to Jack, but not the forever sort of goodbye. She needed her friends, now more than ever. There was a bit of darkness inside of her, not as much as the Doctor had, but a bit and it scared her. She banished those thoughts and gave Jack a smile.

"We'll be back, but I'll miss you until then," she said.

"I'm just glad your okay," Jack replied. "I hated leaving you like that."

"You did what I wanted you to do. You saved her Jack and I'll never be able to repay you for that."

"You know I'd do anything for you, Rosie."

She smiled.

"I know."

He pulled her into a hug, careful not to wake Violet. When he pulled back he smiled down at her daughter.

"She's so beautiful, Rosie."

She glanced at her daughter.

"She is, isn't she?"

"Good thing she got her mother's looks."

"The Doctor's not bad."

"Not this one or the one before, but that first one I met-"

She slapped his arm.

"Oi!"

He laughed.

"What? He had those ears-"

"Jack Harkness, you can just shut it," she snapped, but she knew he was teasing so she gave him a smile.

"Take care of her and him," he nodded over his shoulder at the Doctor who had returned from the corridor.

The Time Lord was on the other side of the console, bent down over something that she couldn't quite make out.

"I will," she promised.

"And you," Jack said, gazing across the room at the Doctor who turned toward Jack's voice. "You better take care of them."

"I will."

"You better because TARDIS or no TARDIS you'll have me to answer to."

The Doctor smiled.

"I have no doubt about that."

Jack turned back to Rose and smiled.

"I love you, you know that don't you?" he asked.

"I know and I love you too, Jack," she said, smiling.

He bent down and kissed her forehead.

"Oi!" the Doctor yelled, hurrying towards them. "I saw that Jack Harkness. That was kissing. There's no kissing!"

"No kissing?" Jack asked, raising his brow.

"No kissing inside the TARDIS. It's a…rule."

"A rule?"

"Yes."

"You never told me that," Rose said.

"Yes…well…"

"And we kissed inside the TARDIS."

"Well, that…that was different."

"Different?" she asked, raising her brow.

"That was before the rule."

"Does that mean you two can't kiss inside the TARDIS?" Jack asked.

"Yes…I mean no…I mean…it's a…human rule."

"Sorry?" Rose asked.

"It only applies to humans."

"Is it just kissing or…" Jack wiggled his eyebrows.

"Oh, shut up Jack!" The Doctor snapped. "Weren't you leaving?"

"I was and then you started talking about kissing and now I'm debating on whether I want to stay or not. I do have some vacation-"

The Doctor grabbed Jack and shoved him out the door.

"Goodbye, Jack," he said, closing the door before the impossible man could step back inside.

Rose laughed and suddenly she felt a bit lighter. Maybe, just maybe she could get through this.

"He only kissed me on the forehead."

The Doctor turned around, after bolting the door.

"Yes, well, that's where it starts and with him there's no telling where he'd end it."

"So you don't want him kissing me."

"Him or anyone else."

"Anyone else?" she asked, raising her brow.

"Well," he caught her eye and straightened his bowtie. "There may be one exception." She smiled. "Anyway there was something I wanted to show you."

"What is it?" she asked.

"Come and have a look," he said, hurrying across the control room.

She followed him to the console and that's when she saw what he'd been bending over. It was cradle. A very old, wooden cradle with a mobile above it. Stars hung down from the mobile.

"It's a cradle," she said.

"It's not just any old cradle."

She glanced at him and then she knew.

"Was it yours?"

"It was."

"So, it's from-"

"Gallifrey," he finished.

He was smiling like an idiot and she knew she mirror his smile.

"May I?" he asked, reaching for their daughter.

"Of course," she said, smiling.

She allowed him to take Violet and he carefully laid her in the cradle. Words appeared on the back of the cradle. Violet, but not Tyler. Instead another name appeared.

"Can you read it?" he asked.

"Yes, but…" She caught his gaze. "Is that-"

He grinned.

"Yes." He took her hands and gazed into her eyes. "Thank you."

"You're welcome," she said, slowly, not entirely sure what he was thanking her for.

"Rose," he said, cupping her cheeks in his hands. "Oh, Rose, you wonderful, brilliant, gorgeous woman, don't you know what you've done?" She didn't, but she liked his line of thinking. "You've given me the one thing I never thought I'd have again." He pulled her close, leaning his forehead against hers. She could feel him. Feel how happy he was and it made her smile. He pulled back and gazed into her eyes. "You've given me a family and now, I'm sorry to say, but you're stuck."

Wait. What?

"Sorry?" she asked, searching his eyes for a meaning.

"There's something I have to ask you and it may be the most important question anyone has ever asked you in your entire life. It is, by far, the most important question I have ever asked anyone in my entire life and seeing as how that spans over a thousand years that's saying something, but it's different than any other question I've ever asked, do you know why?"

She was struck nearly silent and could only manage a whispered, "No."

"Because it is so important that, for all I know, the existence of this universe and all universes may hang in the balance. My life, your life, Jack's life may hang in the balance, but I absolutely, positively have to ask…"

She held her breath as he gazed into her eyes with such intensity. What sort of question could hold that much power?

"You, Rose Tyler, are the most brilliant, wonderful, gorgeous woman in any universe and I have to ask…will you marry me?"

She blinked.

"What?"

He blinked.

"I've just asked you to marry me and you answer with a question?"

"No, I mean-"

"No?" His entire face fell. "No?"

"No, I wasn't saying no…"

"Then you will? I mean, you said no, but you didn't mean no, so you meant yes, right?"

The Doctor, the actual proper Doctor was asking her to marry him? Her mind couldn't wrap around the idea. She traveled with him for years and dreamed he'd ask her, but now when he was actually, properly asking him, she just stared at him. Of course she wanted to and not because of Violet. She wanted to marry him because she loved him, had always loved him and always would love him.

"Yes," she said.

"Yes?" he asked.

She smiled.

"Yes, you mad alien, I will marry you."

He pulled her into a hug. She wrapped her arms around him. The Doctor. Her Doctor. She knew there were still things for her to work through. There was still that bit of darkness, but with him and Violet and Jack maybe she could she could have her happy ending.
