Sorry it took me so long to update this, I present to you a filler chapter. Sort of. I couldn't really think of stuff to write, but I know what comes next. And for those who are waiting for my other fanfics who have stumbled upon this, I have a special note for you as well: Yeah, I'm gonna continue everything. I'm just super lazy. And I know I have to work especially on my Penderwicks fanfics, I'd like to assure that I will work on them and hopefully have quicker updates. Like I said before, I'm incredibly lazy. If laziness were an Olympic sport, I would win because I would be too busy procrastinating (or planning to procrastinate later, but never really getting around to it...) to show up. Enough of my pitiful excuses and excessive rambling. Let's get on with the story.
Glinda, no matter how she tried, was almost always a loud crier. It was just lucky that only Shaila and Kirrily had heard her, even though Kirrily didn't know why exactly Glinda was crying. When Kirrily cried, she was absolutely silent, for fear that someone would hear her.
Let's take this moment to pause once again. You may have noticed that Kirrily knows about her parents. Shaila had told her the year before. Kirrily had seemed very calm and nonchalant when Shaila was talking, yet when she was finally alone, she was capable of nothing other than lying face-down on her bed and sobbing uncontrollably. Which is exactly what happened on that one birthday we've been focusing on. Let's hit play and continue.
The breaths came quickly, without thought, in between sobs. Kirrily wondered why she hadn't forgotten to take a breath. Has that even happened before? she thought. Has anyone ever died from simply not taking in a breath?
A knock on her bedroom door burst in on her miserable thoughts. "Kirrily?" Shaila's sweet voice floated into the room on a breeze of its own. "Come out, dear. I have a present for you!"
In her best what-no-I-haven't-been-crying-after-all-it's-my-birthday-why-would-I-be-crying voice, Kirrily responded, telling Shaila that she would be right out. She peered into the mirror, grabbing a cloth and wiping her eyes. She watched her nose until it was no longer red (luckily, her eyes were not red). Then she pasted on a smile and strolled out of her room, bouncing a little.
Shaila was waiting outside with a small wrapped gift. She grinned as she handed the present to her daughter. Kirrily's grin turned genuine. No matter how bad a day you've had, your mum can always make it better. Especially if it's your birthday and she has a nice little present for you. Kirrily neatly tore off the paper so it all came off in one piece and her heart raced as her eyes laid upon the little black box resting in her hand. Shaila bounced a little bit in anticipation as Kirrily pulled the top off of the box, revealing a beautiful necklace.
A small piece of rounded green glass sat on a silver chain. And it was Kirrily's, all Kirrily's. Finally something green that Kirrily could be proud of wearing. It was one of the best gifts she'd ever received. Shaila grinned and helped Kirrily put the necklace on.
This happy moment was interrupted by the sound of breaking glass and a scream of anguish that sounded very much like Glinda's.
