I had a lot of writer's block with this chapter for a while.
While I was writing this I was sick and while I was typing this I was sicker, so let me know if you notice any mistakes.
This is the last chapter.
Gray stared at the Pokemon. "The Guardian…."
Mew giggled and disappeared. It reappeared behind Gray, wrapped the end of its tail around his ankle, and yanked, tripping him. Gray grabbed the Pokemon's tail.
"I've been after you for far too long…"
Mew stared at him flatly, uninterested. It zapped him with an electric attack. Mew floated away from him and waved at Lance and Yellow, who stared at it, surprised. Mew frowned when they didn't wave back. It glared at Gray as he stood up and slapped him.
Yellow looked at Lance. "So Shinx is really the Guardian?"
"I don't know…." It did make sense with a lot of its behaviors.
Gray got a Pokeball out. "Let's see you defeat this." He sent out a Houndoom. It immediately began to glow.
Lance became tense, gritting his teeth. "No…."
Yellow turned her head to one side, puzzled. "I didn't know Houndoom could evolve."
"It's Mega Evolving."
A more savage Pokemon took Houndoom's place. Its horns were much longer. Spikes came from its bone collar. A dark sphere appeared in front of its mouth, powering it, and fired it. Mew materialized its force field. The Shadow Ball nearly broke it. Mew frantically signaled to Latios and Latias before disappearing. The two Dragon/Psychic-types flew forward, darting between the trees, terrifying their riders in the process. The Pokemon began to slow as they came to a cliff face. Waterfalls supplied a nearby pond. Lance looked around. "This is…." It was where he had been captured….
"Lance?" Yellow looked over at him. "Gray is coming here. Is there a way to defeat Pokemon that are Mega Evolved?"
"Either you knock them out or the Trainer recalls them. You can only Mega Evolve your Pokemon a few times a day because the stone you hold to Mega Evolve your Pokemon needs to recharge." Lance looked away. "Gray would have to wait awhile before he can Mega Evolve Houndoom again."
"We can have a Pokemon use Roar." She smiled. "That would work, right?"
"Do you have a Pokemon that can use Roar?"
"No."
Latias drifted over to Latios, glancing around. Latios stared ahead, watching. It crossed its arms and a blue-green dome appeared over them. Flames covered the force-field, gradually becoming stronger. The flames soon died out, leaving the dome singed before it dropped. Across from them stood Gray and Mega Houndoom.
"Mew will come out if its friends are threatened. Don't bother trying to run away again." Gray turned to his Pokemon. "Mega Houndoom will be able to track you no matter where you go." His Pokemon took a step forward, growling. Latias hid behind Latios.
"Where's Horsea?" Lance asked. He glanced behind him as Yellow climbed onto Latios, Latias nudging her along before the female dragon vanished.
Gray repeatedly tossed a Pokeball into the air. "I need it in exchange for me to keep the Mega Stone and Mega Ring. The one who gave it to me made it very clear he wants your Horsea."
Lance narrowed his eyes. "If it would be that simple you would have given Horsea to him already. There's something else you need, isn't there?"
Gray stared at him, surprised. "You know who he is?"
"He wouldn't give up something he's been after for this long so easily." He frowned. "You were told to take me to him, weren't you?"
Gray and Mega Houndoom looked at each other and back at Lance.
"That's it, isn't it?"
"He agreed that if I did I would be one of the people he would save and would help me take revenge on Giovanni. …. In reverse order."
Yellow looked up at Lance. "What….?"
"I'll explain later." He looked back, focusing on the Pokeball. While it was still in midair it vanished was replaced with a rock, apparently one that was a lot heavier than it looked. Gray's arm jerked down and he looked as if he were struggling with it. The Pokeball reappeared in front of Lance and Mew slowly materialized. It winked, smiling, and gave it to him. It turned back to face Gray, puffing itself up in attempt to look bigger.
"Fire Fang!"
Mega Houndoom ran forward, its mouth engulfed in flame. Mew darted out of the way, leading the Pokemon towards the pond. It stopped a short distance away and watched as the other Pokemon ran towards it. Mew waited patiently and floated out of the way as a blast of water came out of the pond, letting the water hit the other Pokemon in the face. Latias reappeared as she flew out of the pond and went back to Latios. Mew looked back at Mega Houndoom, smiling. Electricity crackled between its paws. Mega Houndoom slowly backed away and began powering a Shadow Ball. Mew blinked, watching. It materialized a stronger force-field, bored, allowing the Shadow Ball to come and bounce back at the Pokemon. Mega Houndoom looked back at Gray, annoyed.
"You have the type advantage. Use it."
Mew looked at Gray and shrugged, using Transform to turn into Mega Houndoom. Both Pokemon glared at each other, growling. They ran at each other, barking and biting. They ran back and forth, exchanging attacks. No matter what move Gray ordered both Pokemon used it, making it almost impossible to tell which was which.
"Mega Houndoom, use Roar!" One of the Pokemon stared at him, shocked. The other gave him a very evil smile. It looked back and used the attack, sending Mega Houndoom back to its Pokeball. Gray stared at it and looked back up to see Mew floating in front of him, keeping its evil smile. Gray backed away a few steps and fled, Mew chasing him a short distance before stopping and nodding, pleased. It waved at Latios and Latias. Latios let the Trainers off, gave a nod to each, and left with Latias.
Yellow looked at Lance. "Shouldn't we go after Gray?"
Mew floated up in between them. "You don't have to worry about him. I have a fried that needs to show him how annoyed she is." It giggled.
Gray stopped running, leaning against a tree to rest. "It doesn't matter. I'll just recapture them tonight when they least expect it."
"Chu."
He turned, looking down at a Pichu that glared at him. That was the same one that fought Houndoom….
"CHU!" Pichu leaped at him, enveloped in electricity.
Lance stared at Mew. "You mean you're the one that gave Gray the idea to use you to take revenge on Giovanni?"
"The two of you had to get together somehow. You're a cute couple." Mew nodded.
"Why a Shinx?"
"What other Pokemon are there that are blue, cute, small?"
"You let me capture you..."
"You were going to let me go anyway. I planned for the Pokeball to break. Sorry about nearly drowning you two. Anyway…. I'll drop you off at home now. Is Blackthorn City okay?" Without waiting for a reply, it teleported them to the Blackthorn City Gym's entrance. "Stay here for a little while. I'll come back for you when Gray and his followers are gone. Bye!" It waved and disappeared.
Yellow looked up at Lance. "So we just wait…?"
"If Mew doesn't come back in three days Aerodactyl can take us back." He led her inside. "Clair is already expecting me." He took her through a hallway that led to part of the Gym that was more like a house. "This is where the Gym Leader and his or her Trainers stay until they retire. Clair has the Gym Trainers on a vacation for the next few weeks."
Yellow looked around. "What was Gray talking about earlier?"
He looked ahead. "I know someone that's trying to wipe out humanity. He's allowing only those that are with him to live."
Yellow frowned. "Wait…."
"….I wanted to accomplish it first." He gave a nod in greeting to Clair, who was closing a door that led to the Gym.
She stared at him. "You're a day early… and you brought Yellow because….?"
"Gray."
Clair nodded in understanding and left as a doorbell rang.
Lance led Yellow to a room with a few couches and televisions that were showing various Pokemon battles. "The Trainers study here." Lance sat down after Yellow. "They would do a lot better if Clair allowed them to relax."
"What are you going to do now?"
"Got to the Kalos region to stop my—" he hesitated awkwardly, making a face as he corrected himself. "Someone I know from making the same mistake I almost made." He looked up as Clair walked past with a small box and narrowed his eyes.
Clair noticed. "It just came in the mail. Lance, glaring at it isn't going to get rid of it. It was cute when you were seven when you thought by glaring hard enough at something you could make it explode, but you know better now."
Lance got up and left the room. Yellow looked back at Clair, puzzled, and got up to see what had upset Lance.
"It's addressed to him…." She smiled. "It's the new Holo Caster. Directly from the company."
Clair nodded, looking down at it. "Exactly."
Lance stood in front of a glass wall that was one of the walls of a large fish tank. Various Dragon-type and –like that lived in the water Pokemon swam around, including his own. He set a hand on the wall.
He still couldn't hear their thoughts….
He saw Yellow's reflection and turned to her.
"Lance? Are you all right?"
"Yeah." He looked back to watch his Pokemon. "I only get mail from someone that I don't get along with. It just annoyed me he sent something he knows I don't like."
Horsea floated past and "smiled" at him.
Yellow looked up at him. "Horsea says she agrees with Mew that we're a cute couple."
The end is the best I could come up with after a bunch of rewrites.
Now before anyone starts pointing out I never really said anything further about the Holo Caster or who Lance knows, I can't do that. Not in this fanfiction, anyway…. ;)
