Chapter 6
Ryo clenched his hands tight...to the point that he could have drawn blood.
As the anger coursed through his veins,his vision was faintly tinted with the red of his rage.
From his spot behind the window,Ryo watched Kaori as she and Lei made way into the building...
All his years of training ,practice and experience had him become cool and collected in no time.
His anger and rage would only harm his of plans of saving Kaori,...
The plan was simple.
Save Kaori.
Kill Lei Akumu.
But whatever happened,Kaori was his one and only priority.
He could hear the faint sounds of footsteps outside the apartment.
Ryo seated himself casually on the couch and faced the opening door with a stoic and cold expression...
My heart stopped as I walked with Akumu to the apartment I shared with Ryo...My heart just refused to beat.
Why was he bringing me here?
What was he doing?
What ever his intentions were,I prayed Ryo would out smart him...Oh Ryo...
"Kaori love,open the door",snickered Lei.
And my body obeyed.
As I opened the door,my stomach knotted into balls and my heart leaped to my throat.
Ryo was there...sitting...just staring ahead at me...his eyes..Oh God..his eyes..they were so cold..I swear I would have frozen in place if my body had been under my will and control.
"Kaori?",Ryo asked casually but I could easily make out the caution in his voice...
I felt Lei wrap his arms around my waist as he pulled me closer and placed a kiss on my cheek in an act of dominance..
All the while my eyes were on Ryo...his eyes widened ever so lightly before becoming cold once again...
Kill him Ryo!Just Kill Him!...I screamed in my thoughts.
"Saeba Ryo,It is an honour",said Lei Akumu as he thrust his right hand forward in a handshake..with his left hand still holding me to him.
What was he thinking?How could he think Ryo would leave him alive after coming near me again?Did he dare underestimate The City Hunt-...
My world silently collapsed at my feet,as I saw Ryo shake his hand and nod in acknowledgement.
"And you are?",Ryo asked as he gestured Lei to sit down across from him..Lei did so,dragging me along with him so that I was seated right next to him.
"Rae Aki,I am a old friend of Kaori's..",offered Lei Akumu.
What was he saying?He was Lei Akumu!..the man who haunted my nightmares forever once before...and still had later...Why was he calling him self someone else?
Then it hit me...Lei Akumu had changed himself.
No,no..He was still the filthy trash of a human but his appearance had changed...
Gone were the piercings near his eyebrows.
Gone was his awful red-dyed shabby hair.
Gone were his baggy gangster clothes.
Dressed in an elegant clean cut suit and his slicked back black hair...He looked like ..I dare say...a gentleman.
But no amount of disguise could make me not recognize the man who I hated to the core of my entire being...
But how could Ryo not recognize him?Ryo was not the one to be fooled so easily by a mere change of appearance...yet he was acting otherwise he talked ever so casually with Lei...How could he not see?
True. he had not seen through my City Cinderella disguise...but that was different right?
I felt tears sting my eyes but none fell...
"Kaori,be a good host and get Rae-san something to drink?",Ryo said oh-so-ever-casually.
My patience wilted...Ryo!You damn fool!Save me already!..I screamed telepathically.
I remained unmoved not that it suprised me any more...Lei,I mean Rae..did control me after all.
"Kaori love,I will have a glass of water please",Lei cooed...it seemed to me as though he was snorting,I swore I saw Ryo's eyebrows rise for a minute there as I walked without a word of protest to the kitchen and what seemed like a perfect symphony of robotic movements I came back to the living room with the glass of water
Ryo was studying Lei with an expression that was unreadable.
I placed the water down on the coffee table and turned around and sat down next to Lei without a word being said.
Lei crushed me against his side as he grabbed my left hand and faced Ryo with a look I can describe only as sardonic.
"Saeba-san I thank you with all my heart for taking care of Kaori all these years",Lei said,"You see Kaori and I are engaged."And raised my left hand up to show the heavy diamond ring he had slipped on to my hand outside the apartment...
I felt my world collapse for a second time that night...
And the horror I felt overwhelmed me as I saw from the corner of my eyes,the disbelief flash across Ryo's face.
What I would not give at this moment to talk..to curse at Lei Akumu for his absurdity to think that I would marry him in this or the yet to come life times...to jump into the safety of Ryo's arms..and...and to hear Ryo declare that I was his.
What I would not give indeed.
Engaged?
It took every control in his every fiber of his body not to pound Lei Akumu..or Rae Aki..as he posed to be...into the solid ground and walk on him for even daring to touch his Kaori in front of him..
Ryo could easily see something was wrong with Kaori...she seemed..so distant?
She kept on smiling but for some one who had lived for her smiles at a time,he could see the it was fake...it was as though she was not really smiling,merely being forced to do so.
Her bright eyes had been overshadowed by what he perssumed to be as pain by the way she looked at him...
It did not escape him that she moved and did exactly had Lei had told her to do only...
His anger...if it was even possible...was increasing by the minute...He could not bare to see Kaori anywhere near this man...
She was his and only his.
" Mine",Ryo growled under his breath.
"Pardon Saeba-san?",Lei's voice interrupted my thoughts of distress as I looked up to find Ryo walking towards us.
Before I could even process my thoughts about what was happening,Ryo snatched me up from Lei's grasp and crushed me against his chest briefly before crushing his lips against mine...
And then he kissed me.
