Shizuo walked down the streets of Ikebukuro the street lights illuminating his path his mind wandering and his senses alive searching for traces of a certain informant.
He and Izaya hadn't been able to spend the day together as they had planned the morning they had had breakfast, so they weren't able to see each other for a while. It has been two weeks since the night he and Izaya had spent together and he had a million and one questions to ask his nemesis.
He had sent a message to the informant, through Celty and Shinra, to met up at the bar from new year's eve to talk which he gladly agreed to. So now here was a tall shaded blonde sitting alone in a booth at the bar waiting for Izaya to show up.
It was twenty minutes til midnight and the informant was no where to be seen, Shizuo was losing his patience now as he took another drag of his cigarette. His glass of Jack Daniel's on the rocks untouched, until now.
His mind was full of what ifs and speculations of his frienemy's intentions. 'What if the bastards playing me just to see how I react.' He thought lifting his glass to his lips.
'What if this is thanks to one of Shinra's fucked up experiments.' There were so many what ifs that Shizuo began thinking that at least one of the odd, yet somehow plausible, scenarios had to be right.
Shizuo was at the end of his cigarette and of his halfway through with his Jack when he heard the door open, and there in the doorway stood Izaya. He was a mess, his hair was a wind swept mess and his face had a red tint to it.
"I'm sorry Shizu-chan," he chuckled making his way to Shizuo. "I had some business to take care of with Celty at the last minute; I didn't keep you waiting too long did I?"
Shizuo put out the remnants of his cigarette in the ashtray at their table and looked out the window to his left, to see his friend simon handing out flyers to passer-bys. "Fuck yeah you did I've been here for at least a half hour damn flea."
Izaya smirked at the sharply dressed blonde and took his seat across from him. "Stop whining that's not even that long." He said waving over to the bar keep for his usual to be brought over. His traversed the dark room of the bar until they settled on Shizuo as he said, "So what did you want to talk to me about, Shizu-chan?"
Shizuo's brown eyes focused on Izaya as he asked the simple question, "Why?" That was what all the questions in his head had come down to. Why did Izaya take such a turn as to say he liked Shizuo. Why had he never said anything before? Why?
Izaya leaned back in his seat an eyebrow raised with a smirk playing at his lips. "That's all really, just why?" Shizuo nodded hesitantly watching Izaya closely.
Izaya was at a bit of a loss thanks to that simplistic question because he didn't exactly know himself. So he decided to try and explain the best he could, he took a breath and settled in his seat comfortably and began. "Well," he said crossing his arms over his chest. "I'd have to say, it's because I hate you so much Shizu-chan."
Shizuo's grip on his half glass tightened making an audible crack, Izaya quickly put his hand over Shizuo's, "let me finish," he said. Shizuo nodded but his jaw still held tension as he let go of his glass.
"I realized that I hated you most of all Shizu-chan, and I'm really sure when I realized this, but ever since I did I've looked at you differently. I've noticed the way you look at me with such fury and those intense eyes have sent chills through me." Izaya went on a faint blush brightening his features.
One of the waitresses of the bar approached their table quietly stealing glances between the two handsome patrons, she smiled and set Izaya's glass in front of him, a White Russian. the waitress looked up at him her eyes fluttering. He didn't notice but Shizuo sure did, and his eyes followed her briefly as she walked away.
He sat across from the young informant facing the window nonchalantly yet at full attention, letting each and every word that came out of Izaya's mouth sink in, trying to ignore the bubbling, familiar feeling of his short fuse running out.
"The way you walk, and then the sudden way your everything changes when you realize I'm in your beloved Ikebukuro, it kind of makes me feel special you know." Izaya said taking the first sip of his drink he glanced up to see Shizuo's eyes drifting through the crowd outside.
"I felt such a strong connection to you because of our mutual hatred to each other," he said eyes continuing to linger on his blonde monster. "I guess that's why?" He concluded letting his head rest on his hands on the table, his black eyes focused on Shizuo''s square jaw. His eyes scanned up every inch resting on thin smooth lips. Izaya could see they were slightly turned up in a smirk. "Shizu-chan." He asked raising his head from his hands.
Shizuo was looking down at the informant smiling. "I like that reasoning flea." He said simply, letting his head rest on the cool glass of the window, Izaya looked at him quizzically an eyebrow raised.
"What do you mean, you like my reasoning Shizu-chan?" He sat up in his seat intrigued by the blonde's response.
"I mean it's not just a I suddenly love you kind of thing." Shizuo smiled pushing his shades up the bridge of his nose. "And when you put it that way it actually seems possible for us to have that kind of relationship, almost."
Izaya's face fell, his eyes searching for what Shizuo might be thinking but not a trace could be found in the poker face smirk the blonde sported. If he wanted more intel he'd have to ask for it."What do you mean almost? You said you liked me at your apartment the other day didn't you."
Shizuo's chocolate eyes settled on Izaya's black ones as he asked himself, could he feel that way for the flea? To look at he man that had caused so much trouble in the past in a new light. He knew he had said he liked the informant but could it ever turn to that kind of like?
"Well?" Izaya waited for the blondes reasoning, but nothing came no response what so ever. Izaya huffed leaning back in his seat. "Really Shizu-chan you don't even have a real reason do you?"
The blonde remained silent, that alone spoke volumes to Izaya. "Alright I have a proposition for you Shizuo." Izaya said eyes blazing with determination. "Give it a chance for a month and if you still believe you can't feel that way then fine."
Shizuo raised an eyebrow at the informant, "You can't be serious? Are you serious?" He asked honestly shocked by the offer, Izaya just nodded at him.
"What do you say Shizu-chan?" Izaya smirked his hand held out. The blonde looked down at the extended hand speculatively.
"You can't expect me to just agree just like that. I need to think about this damn it." Shizuo blushed looking out of the window again just in time to see the sun disappear behind some buildings. "Give me 3 days to think about this." He said.
Izaya smiled, "Alright 3 days and then we meet up here again for your decision. Fair enough." Izaya pulled back his hand to rest his head on it but when he looked at his watch he scowled. He took one more drink of his White Russian and got up from his seat. "I'll be going now if you don't mind, I have some business to attend to." Shizuo watched as the informant stretched and walked over to the exit. "I'll see you in 3 days Shizu-chan."
"Hey can't we meet as friends before then!?" Shizuo called but Izaya was already out the door and he could hear the informant's chuckle as he disappeared into the crowded streets.
Shizuo, left with with nothing more from his ex-enemy, sat back in the comfortable booth with his now empty glass of Jack on the Rocks contemplating the subject of the conversation. Three days to come up with an answer, he ran a hand through his blonde locks pulling slightly at his roots.
There was so much happening this year and to think it was only a week and half in. "This gonna be a long and hard fucking year isn't it?" he mumbled to himself, pulling his handful of hair again.
Shizuo was lying in bed at three in the goddamn morning unable to fucking sleep for the life of him. He growled rolling over on his side, and flipping his pillow again.
He knew the effort was futile but what did he really have to lose. The blonde closed his eyes and tried to relax but when he did that all his mind's eye would do was give him images of the flea. His smirk, his blushing face, the vulnerability of his sleeping expression, his scowl and his intense black bore into his psyche like a black fire set in his mind, and he couldn't sleep knowing that those eyes weren't gazing at him intently like at the bar earlier that night.
He shot open his eyes and punched his pillow as hard as he could, sending his hand through the fluff and at least six inches into his mattress. "FUCK!" He cursed, pulling his hand out of the mattress. He tore out of bed phone in hand and made his way to his balcony.
He looked through his contacts and found Celty's number, he had to tell someone what he was going through, and Celty was the first person that came to mind. He clicked on her contact and started to type up a message.
Shizuo: Celty hey answer, I gotta talk to someone right now!
Celty: is typing…
Shizuo: Good you're awake, I swear if you weren't I felt like I was gonna punch a hole through my apartment.
Celty: Calm down, it's a good thing I was up then huh?
Celty: What's up Shizuo? Izaya get on your nerves again?
Shizuo: is typing….
Shizuo: Izaya is the reason but it's not the usual shit you know.
Celty: What do you mean?
Shizuo: Do you know why he asked you to drop him off at the bar I used to work at?
Celty: Yeah I saw you in the window, I thought he was just gonna make you blow your fuse again.
Shizuo: Well no, we kinda had a truce, thanks to our new year resolutions I guess. Fuck you should have been there to hear what he told me when the clock struck midnight. I was thrown on my ass by that.
Celty: What did he say?
Shizuo: You won't believe it.
Shizuo: is typing…
Celty: Spit it out already damn it. I'm curious now.
Shizuo: He wants to go out with me Celty. He said he wants to become my lover.
Celty: WHAT! YOU CAN'T BE FUCK SERIOUS SHIZUO!
Shizuo: I know I had the same reaction I was thrown flat on my ass by him
Shizuo: I mean after all he put me through, he comes out and tells me that shit.
Celty: He's gotta be playing you.
Shizuo: I thought the same thing until we got to my place and then he undressed me when I was close to passin out
Shizuo: he could've slit my throat if he wanted but no instead he almost kisses me when he thinks I'm sleeping.
Celty: Holy fuck are you serious did you sleep with him?
Shizuo: NO! He just spent the night! It was the only way to get him to give me my keys and get in my house Celty.
Celty: So you let the guy that has tried to kill you on almost a daily basis, into your house and spent the night with him there.
Celty: Do you know how crazy that was.
Shizuo: Hey I was drunk as fuck okay, I wasn't thinking straight.
Shizuo: Plus I just wanted to get home and in bed to get the fucking night over with, Izaya or no Izaya I was tired of walking the damn city streets.
Celty: Okay so he spent the day at your house then what?
Shizuo: is typing…
Shizuo: I woke up to see him right next to me in the morning and then I heard him moan my name in his sleep.
Shizuo: Not say, MOAN Celty, he was moaning my name in his sleep. Do you know how fucked up that was for me to hear?
Celty: Actually I do, I had the same thing go on with Shinra.
Shizuo: Well yea he was begging dream me not to stop, all blushy and cute.
Celty: Izaya cute? those words mix as well as water and oil.
Shizuo: I had to get the fuck up and take a cold shower to calm down.
Shizuo: I couldn't handle that, and then when I got out was even worse.
Shizuo: I teased him about it and he blushed again and again, and then in the kitchen
Celty: is typing….
Shizuo: He can fucking cook Celty, I swear his scrambled eggs were so fucking good, and when he was making them, he was so focused like in his own little world
Shizuo: He looked so fucking good making shit for me in my kitchen.
Celty: Shizuo slow down let me read all this okay.
Shizuo: Okay sorry.
Celty: Woah, you know this sounds familiar to me. But before I gotta ask, do you know what you just typed?
Shizuo: Huh?
Celty: Read over what you sent me Shizuo, I think you'll shock yourself.
Shizuo: is typing…
Celty: Well?
Shizuo: What the fuck is wrong with me Celty?
Celty: I know, because I went through the same thing with Shinra
Celty: I couldn't stand the bastard just like you can't stand Izaya
Celty: but from what I see, you feel the same as I did back then, you're noticing something like the way he looks at you right
Shizuo: is typing…
Celty: and the way he smiles, and the way he looks when he's doing something he enjoys.
Shizuo: No that's not what's happening here Celty no way
Celty: you want him to look at you right now don't you?
Celty: You want him right in front of you right now just so you can see he's looking at you.
Shizuo: NO!
Celty: Shizuo, I think you should give him a chance.
Shizuo: Funny you say that, cuz he said the same damn thing. I have 3 days to say if I wanna try us out for a month
Celty: Go for it. I think it's the only way you'll get to find out what's going on with you for yourself.
Shizuo: Bye Celty
Celty: Goodnight Shizuo.
Shizuo stood outside on his balcony his tanked top form steaming in the cold January weather. He looked down at his phone and read over the messages Celty and he had exchanged his brow furrowing as he came the end. He snapped the phone shut and stepped back inside.
"I need some fucking milk." He mumbled walking almost zombie like to his fridge, he pulled opened the door and reached for the carton of milk at the back. His hand clasped the carton and it was crushed.
Shizuo was tense and confused he had no idea what was going through his own head. All he wanted was a glass of milk and he couldn't even enjoy that thanks to his jumbled emotions.
