Look around. Everywhere you look there is grass with a small urban tint, windmills everywhere, and waves crashing on a rocky beach- with many a wingull soaring overhead.

This is my home, New Bark town, where I grew up. My name is Misaki and I'm 10 years old.

I started off the day with a visit to Professor Elm's lab, as there was an event going on there; he was giving out Pokémon to people so they can travel around without having to worry about wild Pokémon attacking them. I get to the lab, and go up to Professor Elm.

"Misaki," he says, "prepare for your journey. Now, choose which Pokémon should accompany you: chikorita, cyndaquil, or totodile. Also, here is a Pokédex – fill it, please. It will be of extreme help with my research."

"Umm, okay -got it! I choose you, cyndaquil!" I pick up the Pokéball, and open it.

It is empty.

"Uhhh," I say, bewildered. The cyndaquil had already been taken!

"You see," said professor Elm, "all three of the Pokémon have already been taken. But I do have one more…" up pops a new Pokémon. "This is igglybuff."

"I'll take it!" I say, "Well, thanks a bunch! Seeya!"

I ran back home to show Mum my new partner, realizing that I had not given her a nickname yet, which is very bad; all Pokémon must be given a nickname, otherwise they will not like their trainer.

"Okay, igglybuff, your nickname can be… Pinsen ('pinku (pink) plus fuusen (balloon)). Right, Pinsen. Let's go!"

So we set off along route 27.

As we were walking, a wild pidgey appeared. At first I was startled, but Pinsen was looking at me expectantly, obviously raring to have her first battle.

"Pinsen, use pound!" Immediately after the attack, pidgey fainted. "Amazing! You defeated the pidgey in one go!"

After a few hours of travelling, and a quick detour through Cherrygrove city, we arrived at Violet City, location of the challenge for me as a trainer- sprout tower.

I see the centre pole swaying precariously. I approach the elder. "Umm, excuse me, I've come for a battle" I say worriedly.

"Don't worry, however hard we battle, the tower will stay stronger than Mewtwo. Now let's see how good your relationship with your Pokémon is! Go Bellsprout!"

"Go Pinsen! Use pound!"

"Vine whip!"

As Pinsen went in for the attack, the bellsprout immobilised her with its vines, as well as hurting her with the attack.

"No! Pinsen!" I screamed, but it seemed there was nothing I could do to help her. "Maybe… Pinsen, use sing!"

"Igalybuff, iggly!"

The bellsprout fell asleep, freeing Pinsen.

"Yeah! Now use pound!"

And at that, the battle was over.

"Yeah! We won!" I say as Pinsen leaps into my arms, overjoyed of her win. "Great job, Pinsen! We're going well now!"

Suddenly, Pinsen started slowly getting larger; the curl on her head thickens; ears develop; eyes turn blue.

"Oh my, your igglybuff has evolved into a jigglypuff!" exclaimed the elder. "This shows you truly are the closest with your Pokémon as you can be, as an igglybuff will not evolve until true friendship is gained with its trainer."

"Wow Pinsen! But… elder, what can we do now?"

"Challenge the Violet City gym leader, Falkner."

"Well, get ready Falkner, here we come!"
