Chapter Seven

"How on earth are we supposed to get inside the palace?" David asked as he, Daphne, and the Animals that had had joined in the fight sat around a large circular table made of stone as they began to discuss battle strategies.

A pause came over the group. How were they supposed to that? It was going to be impossible to get past the Gale Force! Let alone get inside.

"I have an idea, but I can't guarantee if it will work," Daphne said.

The Animals stared at the future ruler of Oz. They waited for her to speak once more. They watched as she took off her shoes. She took her right shoe and turned it upside down. A small object fell out of it. She picked up the object and murmured a few magical words.

Immediately, the item turned into its normal size. It was the Grimmerie. The Animal's eyes widened. They had all heard of the magical book. They knew it could be very dangerous if it was in the wrong hands.

"What if I shrink everyone to get inside? All spells have a counter spell, so I can make sure we are all our normal size once we are in the palace. We are going to have to evacuate the city as well. This battle could end badly, and I do not want my citizens harmed in any way..." Her voice trailed off.

A smile crept upon Brrr's face. This young woman was going to make a great ruler one day. If she ruled the way she was leading now, the Animals would gladly give her protection for as long she needed it.

He was about to agree with the plan, but David spoke before he had a chance too. "That much magic is going to drain you. You are going to need help."

"I can hand-" she began to say.

"Daphne, there are hundreds of animals that are willing to help us. You can't shrink all of them. Besides you still struggle controlling your magic."

The princess let out a sigh. "I wasn't planning on shrinking all of them. We need most of them to help evacuate the people."

David was about to say something else, but stopped once he saw the look on Daphne's face. He knew he would not be able to convince her to let him help with the magic at all. He knew how hard it was to control it, especially when emotions were involved. This was just asking for trouble.

A couple of days pasted and they finally reached the Emerald City. Each Animal wore a cloak of some sort to prevent the humans of being afraid of them. They were all thankful that winter was approaching soon. The cloaks would have been suspicious otherwise.

After a lot of convincing, David was finally allowed to help Daphne with the shrinking spell. It was a good thing he helped her out too because the spell had drained both of them to the point that they both wanted to rest. Once they were done resting, they allowed the normal sized Animals to begin evacuating the city.

Several hours later the shrunken sized Animals finally made it to the palace. They had walked through a field of poppies- a type of flower. They had hidden behind bushed to avoid the guards detecting them accidentally, plus they did not want to get stepped on.

One by one, they each slid under the door. The Animal's eyes widened when they saw the inside of the palace. It was absolutely beautiful. A huge chandelier hung from the ceiling, four thrones were in the midst of the room. The sight was breath taking.

Daphne smiled as she saw the expressions on the Animal's face. Some of the Animals had never been her before because they were afraid of humans. "Okay, let's get ready to start searching," the blond haired girl said. She murmured some words and everyone turned back to their normal size.

David grabbed Daphne as soon as she said the spell. The poor girl looked like she was going to faint. He let out a sigh. "I could have helped," he told her.

"I'm fine," she murmured. She noticed all the Animals staring at the two of them. Smiles were on their faces. "Let's split up and start search."

The Animals shook their heads and started to look for Glinda and her husband.

Daphne rubbed her head. The spell had taken a lot out of her. She did not want to admit that to David though. She did not want to seem weak.

After she rested for a few minutes, the two humans began to look for Glinda as well. "Hey, Daphne," David said as they walked down a hall way.

The dark haired boy let out a sigh. "If anything goes wrong, I want you to go to Kimco."

"The castle that the Wicked Witch of West supposedly haunts?" She questioned.

"Yes, if anything goes wrong please. No one would bother you there because people are afraid of it."

"Okay," she agreed reluctantly. The plan is perfect! Nothing will go wrong! She thought to herself.

If only she knew how wrong that thought was.
