Chapter 36
Kai's POV
"The Volturi are coming." Embry says. My eyes widen and my jaw drops. No they can't be!
"What? Why? Bella's a vampire now." I ask.
"One of the Cullens cousins from Alaska came to apologize for leaving Edwards's and Bella's wedding early. She saw Seth was there and got mad that they invited a werewolf. We killed her lover awhile ago. He was friends with the redhead." he says and I gulp.
"The one who killed my uncle?" I ask and he nods as my eyes get watery. "So she came back and what happened?" I ask whipping at the corners of my eyes.
"She saw Jake, Bella, and Ness playing in the snow. Ness jumped up to get a snowflake and she saw. She thinks Ness is an immortal child. Which is a child who's a vampire. They're uncontrollable and deadly." he explains.
"Nessie is nothing like that!" I defend.
"I know that, you know that, and so do the packs and Cullens but their cousin doesn't. She ran off before Bella could explain. She ran to the Volturi to tell them about Nessie. That's why they're coming to Forks." he says.
"When?" I ask.
"Well before Alice left she left a note saying that when the snow sticks they'll come." he says. I glance outside at the small flakes falling and gulp.
"Alice left?" I ask.
"She and her mate left a week ago." he says.
"Why would they leave their family at this time?" I ask.
"We don't know why but she left and hasn't give us any other information." he says.
"What are you guys doing? Will you fight?" I ask and he takes a deep breath.
"The Cullens have gathered some friends of theirs and are going to have them be witnesses to the Volturi. Edward has asked them to fight and most of them are willing to." he says.
"And the packs?" I ask.
"We'll stick with them." he says and my heart drops. It's just like the Newborn war all over again! I could loose Embry and everyone else! Why does this have to happen? I'm going to have to skip my classes if the snow doesn't stick before I leave. I will not leave my family during this time. "Kai?" Embry asks and I look over to him. We've arrived at my house. He's looking at me with concern and heartache.
"Be safe Embry." I whisper looking down at my hands in my lap. Tears start to form and fall.
"Oh Kai." Embry says and pulls me over into his lap. I curl my arms around his neck and cry into his chest. "I'll always be safe, you can count on that. I promise that I'll always be with you." he says and I nod.
"I don't want to loose you." I whimper.
"You won't. I'll always be right here." he says placing his hand over my heart. "And you'll always be right here." he says placing my hand over his heart. He takes my hand and kisses it before kissing my lips softly.
"I love you." he says.
"I love you too." I say.
After our talk Embry and I went inside where my father, sister, cousins, aunt, and Brady were. We stayed up for most of the night talking but eventually Emma crashed so Brady took her upstairs. Aunt Sue followed, heading down the hall to the guest room. Seth crashed next which made Leah leave so she didn't have to listen to his snoring. Dad went to bed and Embry and I stayed where we were on the couch comfortable in each others arms. I fell asleep listening to Embry's heart beat and his even breaths.
When I open my eyes I'm warm and comfortable. I hear light snoring and see that I'm on top of Embry who is the source of the snoring. I smile and kiss him lightly on the lips.
"Mmm." he mumbles. I try to get up but find that I'm caged in Embry's arms. I roll my eyes knowing that I should've known better.
"If you let go I'll make your favorite breakfast." I whisper in his ear. He moans and shakes his head no. "Come on Embry, I have to use the bathroom!" I beg and he groans letting go.
"You better come back." he warns.
"Thank you." I kiss his lips.
"Yeah yeah yeah." he mumbles rolling over. I smile and get up to use the bathroom and then make breakfast for everyone.
After breakfast we all head over to Emily's. We're spending Christmas Eve, today, there and tomorrow we'll spend the morning at home then head over to Charlie's. Apparently my aunt is dating Charlie now. I don't know what I think of it yet, but I do know he's a good guy and will take care of my aunt.
"Kai, it's so good to see you!" Emily smiles when I enter the door. I smile and hug her.
"It's good to see you too, Em." I say. I exchange hugs and hellos from everyone. And when I say everyone I mean everyone! Both packs are here, the family members that know the secret, and all imprints. Once again I've been banned from the kitchen so I'm in the living room talking with one of the new members of Jake's pack, Daniel.
"What do you think of ASU?" he asks.
"I like it." I say and he nods.
"I was going to go there this year." he sighs.
"How old are you?" I ask.
"Nineteen." he says.
"And you're not going to college?" I ask.
"Well I can't right now because I have to protect La Push." he says and I frown. "But Jake has already told me that I can go to community college, like Leah is, when the Volturi thing is over. And maybe one day I'll get to a university." he says.
"Keep shooting for your dreams, Daniel." I smile and he smiles as well.
"Aunty Kai." Claire and Nessie walk over to me smiling.
"Hello pretty girls." I smile at their outfits and the makeup on their faces. "What are you two up to?" I ask and they giggle.
"We're doing makeovers and dress up!" Claire smiles.
"Jakey, uncle Quil!" Nessie yells."Come out and show everyone your new looks!" she smiles and my eyes widen as a smile stretches across my face.
"No thanks, Nessie." I hear Jake say from upstairs.
"Oh come on boys I want to see your new look. And I'm sure the girls will be upset if you don't come down." Paul smirks. I hear groans and shake my head.
"Jakey." Nessie whines.
"Qwilly!" Claire whines and I chuckle.
"Fine!" they yell and come downstairs. When their feet touch the last step my eyes widen at their appearances. Paul starts cracking up and we all join him.
"Alright alright it's not that funny." Jake says glaring at us.
"I think you guys look great!" Leah smirks.
"Yeah, I think you guys should keep the new look." Collin says and they growl.
"Don't you like your new looks?" Nessie and Claire ask with little frowns and puppy dog eyes.
"Of course we do!" Jake and Quil yell and go over to their imprints. They pick up the girls and kiss their heads.
"Good." the girls giggle. I shake my head and get up heading out the back for some air. I don't know how I can stand being away from them so long.
"You okay?" Embry asks standing behind me.
"Perfect." I say leaning back against him. He wraps his arms around me and I sigh in content. He kisses my head.
"Are you happy to be home?" he asks.
"Yes I am. I missed everyone so much." I say.
"We all miss you too." he says.
"Only a year and a half until I'm home for good." I say.
"You're counting?" he asks.
"Yep." I smile.
"Me too." he kisses my temple.
