12.

No," Her answer was cold short and heartless.

The simple word didn't register well to the half-demon. His eyes narrow in anger, "What do you mean by no." Inuyasha's voice held a deep menacing tone. "I refuse to sit here, when Sesshomaru needs me." This time she silently shakes her head. Inuyasha was desperate as he fell to his knees; the young dog swallowed his pride and begged the goddess to release him. Tears streamed down the female's face, but she was absolute with her answer. It anger Inuyasha to no end, how could she bluntly claim to love the dog clan, yet abandon the leader with the swiftness of the breeze. Ire rang every nerve in Inuyasha's body. "I don't want to be here," he seethe between clenched teeth, "I must be beside Sesshomaru." Inuyasha repeated the mantra trying to keep himself under control for he could feel is own sanity fading fast.

"Stop Inuyasha" the goddess demands as she folded her arms over her chest. An uncharacteristic ripple course through the surrounding, "Inuyasha stop, your aura is fighting against mines."

Inuyasha could hear her, but paid no attention. If it was her aura keeping him trapped here he had no problem fighting against it. "…must be beside Sesshomaru. I don't want to…" he continues his mantra. His aura whipped around wildly with no control.

"Pup, if you fight against me Death and Chaos will grasp you." Once again her pleas fell on deaf ears. She reaches out to Inuyasha. As she grabbed onto his wrist her flesh began to burn, she held on tightly as she tries to break him out of his concentration.

Inuyasha turns to face her, she is greeted with bright bleeding red eyes, jagged purple streaks and a deep frown on the once half-demon's face. Glistening fangs were revealed as he spoke directly to her, "What is life without Sesshomaru?"

Determination, anger but most importantly love etch the transformed dog face. Tears streaked the goddess's appearance, "You can't blindly go against a god, not even for love." Inuyasha shakes his head as he continues his chant once again. "Nothing is going to stop you," she murmurs to herself as she lets go of Inuyasha. She stands in front of him trying to gain his attention. With hands on her hips she demands that he listen to her, "If you go back, both Sesshomaru and yourself will die. I cannot protect you, and I hold no say against the other gods and what they choose to do." Inuyasha turned his back to her; to him she was no help. "Nevertheless," she continues, choosing to ignore Inuyasha's outright crude behavior, "I will send you back to him."

Pivoting on his heels, Inuyasha faces her again, "Now," he growled.

She rolled her eyes, but nods. "Goodbye Inuyasha." and with the flick of her wrist Inuyasha once again enveloped in light.

Natsume grunts, as he pushes back on Naraku's upper body, "His right ankle!" The ebony fox called out to Sesshomaru, "That is where his heart is located." Naraku sticks his left hand in Natsume's mouth as he grabs hold of his tongue to literally shut him up. In retaliation the fox chomps down severing three fingers, Naraku now only have his thumb and pinky finger; Natsume spat out the offensive digits out of his mouth.

The beast turned to the two struggling males. He lifts up his paw to squash Naraku, but quickly realize it would be impossible without causing harm to the fox.

"Forget about me," Natsume calls out to Sesshomaru, as he flips himself over pinning Naraku under him. "Destroy his heart."

Mentally nodding to himself the beast bends his massive head as it takes Naraku's lower body into his mouth. Throwing his head back he chomps. The sound of breaking bones echoed in his ears as the spider's contaminated blood burned Sesshomaru's tongue and throat; ignoring the pain, a jolt of excitement course through Sesshomaru when he felt the smooth round sphere of Naraku's heart. With his tongue he rolled the vile muscle to the back of his mouth against his molars. With a wicked grin he bites down hard. He felt it crack.

Pain—undesirable unbearable pain ran through out Naraku. Sesshomaru was going to kill him. In a last desperate act of twisted vengeance Naraku struck Natsume.

One again, placing as much strength into it Sesshomaru chomped down. Naraku's heart shattered inside Sesshomaru's mouth. The beast swallows for good measure as purple miasma gas escape through clenched teeth.

All movement, sound and even time itself froze. With his last attack, Naraku managed to piece through Natsume's heart. Death's cold lips laid gentle on Natsume's brow as a shiver ran down his spin. Natsume watch as the life left his enemy's eyes. Slowly and carefully the fox removes the embedded hand from his chest. Blood oozed from the wound and his mouth onto the carcass. Natsume spat on the body, as he cursed underneath his breath. Getting up on wobbly knees he stands to Sesshomaru's left, not wanting Sesshomaru to see how badly he was wounded. "You have won, my lord." The beast threw his head back and howled his victory to the four corners of the world. Cheers were heard from the guest, the dread that had made residence in the western estate vanished. The crowd of demons waited in anticipation to celebrate the victory of the lord and see this mystery mate, yet no one moved to enter the room without a clear invitation.

Sesshomaru howled again, Natsume laughed this was a bittersweet ending. Natsume felt as if he wasn't going to last much longer, his hand ventures to his wound. It was irrelevant, his lord Sesshomaru was victorious.

With the adrenaline leaving his body, exhaustion fell on Sesshomaru hard. A final howl of victory he succumb the weight of his broken body and fell. He hears Natsume scream his name, but has no strength to answer. He never felt so feeble in his life. He blinked and for a moment he could see his mate in front of him in an orb of light. He whimpers his mate's name. A nostalgic smile claims the western lord's face his brother-mate had waited for him at the gates of the afterlife.

"When he shall die,
Take him and cut him out in little stars,
And he will make the face of heaven so fine
That all the world will be in love with night
And pay no worship to the garish sun."
William Shakespeare, Romeo and Juliet
