Chapter 5
Disclaimer: I don't own Overlord or Bioshock
AN: I had intended for this chapter to be longer and not take place in the same place, but oh well, that's how things turned out. I hope you all like it and leave reviews about improvements or suggestions, because it really helps to keep my muse from going off on some amazing imagination adventure without me. Please keep in mind that I'm writing at least half of this between the perfectly reasonable hours of 1 am and 3 am, without a wink of sleep or a drop of coffee. I must admit though...I feel absolutely fantastic, and I'm not being sarcastic...
"Now that the formalities are done with, I would suggest we move on to establish your dark tower, Lady Victoria."
"My what?" Victoria inquired with a raised eyebrow.
"Your dark tower, milady. It is the penultimate symbol of your evil might. A place for you and your minions to rest and relax after a long day of evil; it houses all your accumulated wealth as well as allow you to travel to various places around the world once a tower gate has been crafted at the location. " Gnarl droned as if he recited the speech a thousand times before.
"So, where exactly is this ʻDark Towerʻ?" Victoria asked curiously.
"Well…there's the problem milady. You see, some Overlords are better than others, and by that I mean that some are better at taking care of their enemies, if you know what I mean." Gnarl began "The last Overlord was subpar at best, but you make due with what you've got."
"So what does that have to do with where the tower is?"
"Well, the last Overlord, while lacking in both physical and magical strength in comparison to the average Overlord, was very, almost frighteningly good, at convincing people to join his cause and fight for him. Using the pull he had in his nation of birth, he started a war that encompassed the planet."
"Encompassed the planet? You mean like one of the world wars?" Victoria asked, intrigued.
"Yes, I believe that's what the common folk call it. If I'm remembering correctly, it was the second war and the Overlord was named Adolf." Gnarl let out a mental cackle to himself as Victoria's jaw dropped at his statement.
"But that's not important. The important thing is that when the war was on its last legs, Adolf fled to the dark tower. However he was followed by those foolish Knights Templar who had long sought to rid the land of evil. An idiots dream if I've ever heard one!" Gnarl chuckled before continuing "However stupid their dream, their swords and guns where quite real, and very painful." Gnarl moved one hand to touch the fabric covering the right side of his ribcage, wincing at the memory of the pain "The Knights invaded the dark tower and saw fit to destroy it completely, planting one of those new nuclear bombs to ensure its destruction."
"Wait! I thought Hitler killed himself in his hidden bunker!" Victoria argued.
"The victor writes the history books, milady." Gnarl stated a matter-of-factly "The Knights kept a tight lid on the information of Adolfʻs Overlord status. They had hoped the world would forget about the Overlordʻs and Overladyʻs of the past, dark and evil as it was….ah, the good old days…" Gnarl drifted off, lost in better memories.
"Ok…so, how does one establish a dark tower?"
"The first step would be to find a sufficiently evil, or dark location. The last Dark Tower was located in the Netherworld, but with all the Nuclear fallout there's no way we can go back there."
"Netherworld? But that's just a myth!" Victoria shouted in disbelief, before thinking it over for a second "...Well then again, imps are supposed to be fictional too, but there's about fifty standing right in front of me…"
"Milady, please don't compare us minions to those worthless excuses for demons! We are much more productive and evil!" Gnarl sounded offended.
"Uh…sorry, I guess?" Victoria shrugged "Wait a minute…it just occurred to me, that you've been going on and on about evil and shit, all this time right?"
Gnarl just nodded, not knowing exactly where this was going, but not having a particularly good feeling about it.
"So, if your evil, the tower is evil, the gauntlet is evil, and the Overlord/lady is also evil. Then that means that I'm evil being the Overlady and all. And since I'm evil…" Victoria paused here for dramatic effect, looking down at Gnarl mischeviously with a smirk on her face. "I DON'T HAVE TO TAKE ANY OF YOUR CRAP! And I can call you WHATERVER I want! I don't even have to apologize to you about earlier since EVIL people don't apologize!" Victoria burst into an evil laugh at that, leaning back and laughing up towards the ceiling for added maniacal effect.
'Great…she's already got that egotistical entitlement forming that all the Overlady's get after they realize the benefits of being evil.' Gnarl thought to himself as he pinched the bridge of his nose and sighed 'this is why I like Overlords, their so much easier to deal with. Break some stuff, kill some people, find a mistress or two and…BAM! Happy and content Overlord! But noooo! Overlady's aren't content with claiming one country or continent! They want it all! The whole enchilada! If this one is ANYTHING like the other Overlady's then world domination is going to be her goal. All the Gods forbid that she be worse than the others, or I might be looking down interplanetary domination! Not that aiming big is a bad thing…but it does have a tendency for failure...and when an Overlday fails…she takes out her frustration on the nearest thing too her…' Gnarl cringed as he remembered how he had the uncanny unluckiness to always be the one closest to an Overlady when they received the bad news of a secret plot failure. Luckily for him the Overlording business was male dominate, and Overlady's were few and far between.
"Yes…your absolutely right milady…" Gnarl inclined his head as Victoria stopped laughing "And may I congratulate you on such a maliciously evil and maniacal laugh."
"Thanks, Wrinkles. Now back to what we were walking about earlier. How do we, and by we I mean you, since I'm an evil Overlady, and the evil villain mastermind or whatever, usually never has to lift a finger. Go about making my dark tower?"
"Well as I was saying, the first thing to do would be to find an appropriate location. First and foremost; it must have a sufficient amount of evil ambience, we can't just build an evil castle in the middle of a flower field. We'd be a laughing stock and no one would take us seriously."
"Right, I got it. No flower fields. Evil ambience."
"The second thing we need most of all is space to build a small fortress at the least. It wouldn't do for the being of pure evil operating out of a tiny house in a suburb."
"Gotcha, plenty of room."
"And third, which also contributes to the first thing, we need to make sure we can easily defend and booby trap the area around the tower."
"Hmm…" Victoria waved her hand, and telepathically pulled a chair from the pile of furniture behind her and sat down making a pose much like that of the famous Thinker. "I sounds like you just described Rapture…superficially of course, but it does meet all the requirements and more."
"Yes, I was thinking the same thing milday. If you can gain control and fix up the city's defenses then we can make this place you massive and neigh impenetrable fortress."
Victoria pursed her lips, thinking hard about her options. On one hand, Rapture does have amazing defenses; radio jammers, anti-rocket and air missiles, torpedoes, naval mines around the city limits. Not to mention the near limitless supply of energy that the Hephaestus Power Facility generates thanks to those geothermal vents on the sea floor. Rapture even has its own food supply and can become self-sustaining given proper maintenance and upkeep. However there were just a few minor issues.
"Yeah, Rapture is great and on paper it's a perfect plan, but there's still the issue of the hundreds of splicers. Not to mention all the rouge Daddies…" Victoria's eyes widened in realization as her voice drifted off.
"OH CRAP I FORGOT ABOUT DADDY! I'VE BEEN OUT HERE TOO LONG! HE MUST BE WORRIED SICK!" Victoria shouted in a panic.
Gnarl, cocked his wrinkly old head as he watched Victoria go into a panic about her "daddy." 'Hmm…' Gnarl began to think 'she still has an attachment to her protector…I don't know if this is good or bad, but it's never good to get too attached to others what with the dangers of being an Overlord/lady.' Sentimental attachment had been the downfall of more than one Overlord. Though a Big Daddy was nothing to sneeze at, they definitely weren't invincible. And the Knights Templar (as much as Gnarl hated to admit) weren't exactly amateurs when it came to the hero business.
"I NEED TO GET BACK IN THEIR RIGHT NOW!" Victoria said hurriedly as she tried franticly tried to focus her telepathic powers enough to make the furniture tunnel again.
"Wait milady! What about us?" Gnarl called out to Victoria as she managed to form the tunnel and began running down it.
Stopping about halfway into the darkness of the tunnel, Victoria turned around. Glancing between Gnarl and the fifty minions in tow, and the darkness of the tunnel. "You said this gauntlet gives me control over the minions right?" Victoria asked hurriedly
"Yes!" Gnarl replied quickly
"And they cannot disobey any of my orders so long as I'm Overlady?"
"Of Course!"
"Then I order you all to not harm a single stand of hair on any of my sisters or piss off my Daddy, or so help me God I will make you wish I had just killed you and been done with it." With that Victoria turned swiftly and continued down the tunnel, Gnarl and the minions trailing close behind.
The minions glowing yellow eyes cast an dim and ire glow, much like the dim and ire glow from the eyes of their Overlady. Some of the light from the mass number of glowing eyeballs briefly illuminated a set of sharp jagged teeth, which belonged to Gnarl. He hadn't missed the genuine malice in Victoria's voice when she had threatened them. 'Oh she is shaping up to be leaps and bounds better than the last one."
Chapter 5 end
AN: Hoped you liked it! Next chapter you get to meet Victoria's "family" and hopefully (if I don't spend the whole chapter about Victoria's Big Daddy meeting her new minions and Victoria trying to convince him not to kill them.) I'll get to introduce an important OC character, and if I'm lucky I can squeeze in the second important OC character towards the end of the chapter. Please leave a review...Oh wait! I'm a writer writing about someone who is evil...which must mean that I'm evil...Which means that I DON'T have to ASK you to review! I ORDER YOU TO REVIEW! MWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA...But seriously...leave a review...
