I OWN NOTHING; I DO NOT OWN FROZEN OR/AND RISE OF THE GUARDIANS.
Jack blinks his eyes at Elsa and stares at her for God only knows how long. His jaw drops as his mind tries to process what she just said while she stares blankly at him. The silence is heavy in the room along with tension that could be sliced with a knife. The world around him stopped and everything now seems like it is going in slow motion.
The Guardian of Winter silently prays that he heard her wrong or she is just messing with him, but by the look of confusion, it's clearly not the case. She truly doesn't know who he is… she doesn't know who she is.
"Elsa…" Jack whispers her name as he takes a step closer to her, "Elsa, please tell me you're not being serious. Of… of course you know who you are. Who I am!"
"I'm sorry," She says quietly as her eyes drop to her lap, "I don't." She glances up at him and even though he's a stranger to her, she feels horrible for him. He looks so heartbroken and his eyes look like they are holding so many emotions. She bites down on her lip and shrugs her shoulder as she tries to lighten up the mood. "I'm Elsa, then, yeah?"
He nods his head slowly as he clenches his fists to his side. He blames himself for this. It is his fault that he took the two of them out there during a hailstorm and it is his fault for not protecting her. He swallows hard and tries to find his voice, praying that it doesn't crack. "Yeah… you're- you're Elsa. I'm Jack Frost, which... which you should know already." He rubs the back of his neck as his eyes shift to the floor; the insides of him burning with guilt.
Her blue eyes widen while a small smile tugs at her lips, "You're Jack Frost? It's not possible… it's really you?! I… I knew you were real."
Now he's for sure his heart just broke into a million of pieces. "Yeah, I'm real. Standing here." He sighs and then thinks to himself, "With my girlfriend who doesn't remember anything."
"Where are we?" She asks as her eyes roam around the room, absorbing every detail. "This place is beautiful."
His piecing ice color eyes widen and he looks taken back. She doesn't remember this place. She doesn't remember her powers. He watches her get out of bed slowly, but he notices her lack of balance. "Elsa, wait-!" Before he has a chance to say anymore or get to her side in time, she almost stumbles forward, but before she can hit the floor, she pushes her hands in front of her and ice shoots out of her palms.
The ice wraps around her wrists, connecting with the ground, and keeping her standing. She is breathing heavily as her eyes remain locked with the ice that suddenly formed and prevented her from falling flat on her face. Jack watches with an alarmed expression across his face while she slowly stands up straight. The ice melts and she finds herself standing perfectly still, staring blankly at her hands.
"Elsa," He says very slowly, "it's okay. Elsa, just… just remain calm and-" She spins around to face him suddenly and she swallows around the burning lump that formed in her throat, "What… what just happened?! What did I just do, Jack? I… Am I some kind of monster?" She puts her hands in front of her to examine them and then she turns her palms towards Jack while she looks over the back of her hands.
He watches her carefully and once she turns the palms of her hands towards him, he can already tell this isn't going to end good. She looks closely at the back of her hands, her eyes squinting as she extends her arms in front of her. Just as she opens her mouth to say something, ice shoots out of her right hand, and aims straight for Jack's head.
He has to think fast so he ducks his head as the ice shard cuts through a piece of his hair and hits the wall behind him. She stares at him with disbelief as her hands fly up to cover her mouth that is hanging open. "Oh my goodness… I am so sorry! Are you hurt?"
The Guardian doesn't move, too scared to make any sudden movements. He stays there with his back bent forward as his eyes remain fixated on the ice floor. "Me? I-I'm perfectly… fine." He clears his throat as he slowly straightens his back and stands up straight once more. "Er, can we just try to keep your hands… not aimed at anyone for now, though?"
"Of course!" She quickly puts her arms down against her sides as she looks over at Jack while biting her lower lip. "So, can you tell me what in God's name I just did?"
He runs his fingers through his snowy white hair and sighs, "Elsa, you're… okay, so ever since you were a little girl, apparently, you had these… powers. You could create ice out of your hands and you never knew how to control them. When your parents died-"
"My parents died?" She cuts him off with such hurt in her voice, her eyes already forming tears.
"Oh…" He runs his hands over his face as another sigh escapes passed his lips, "right." He looks up at her and offers her a sad, sympathetic look, "They died in a shipwreck. I'm really sorry, Elsa."
The Snow Queen slowly walks back over to the bed and sits down, her eyes lowering. She stares at her hands and nods her head. The only thing she says is, "Continue on."
He hesitates, but when she says nothing more, he looks away towards the wall, and continues, "When they died, you were so lost. You isolated yourself in your room, away from everyone, even your younger sister, Anna. You didn't want to hurt anyone. You were scared of your powers. You see, by accident your powers hit Anna's head and they took away her memory of what you possessed. When you were becoming Queen, you once again lost control of your powers when you got upset and, well, you turned summer into winter. You gave your home, Arendelle, an eternal winter."
"I what?!" She yells, her voice piercing as she stands up with her eyes wide. She shakes her head and takes a step closer to Jack, "What did you say I did?"
He swallows hard and takes a step back, "You, well, may have turned summer into-"
"I heard what you said!" She suddenly explodes as she turns on her heels and looks out the large window. She looks up at the night sky and at the tiny stars that are scattered across the dark, black sky; giving small light to it. "I… Oh no." She looks away from the stars to stare at her reflection. She sees a sad, broken, lost soul staring back at her. Her platinum hair out of its braid and messy, her eyes red and puffy with black circles around her eyes, and bruises and cuts scattered across her skin. She stares at herself in the reflection of the window and gasps. She looks like a regular girl, despite the condition she is in right at the moment, but deep down, she is a horrible monster.
She is a monster hiding behind a beautiful girl who dares call herself the Queen of Arendelle. She closes her eyes, not wanting to look at herself anymore. "I think you should leave."
"Excuse me?" He asks with a raised eyebrow, "I'm not going anywhere, Elsa."
Her eyes snap wide open and in one quick movement, she spins around, and glares at him. Fire burning in her blue eyes and her hands clenched in tight fists at her sides. "You need to go."
He narrows his eyes at her and takes a step forward, showing he does not intend to go anywhere. "Do you honestly think I am just going to leave you alone? Without even remembering who you are? I don't think so. I am not leaving your side."
"Do you really not understand?" She hates what she is doing; what she is saying, but she needs him to leave. She won't let him get hurt. If she hurts him, even by accident, she would never forgive herself. She already almost hit him with her powers, she won't take any more risks, especially not when it comes to his safety.
"Elsa-" He tries, but she stops him. She slams her foot on the ground, making the entire palace shake. "No! I don't need you here, Jack Frost. I am better off alone. I may not remember, but that's probably a good thing! I don't have to remember all the damage I have caused and I don't have to remember the monster I truly am! The world doesn't need me and you surely don't need me either. I appreciate what you are trying to do, but I would prefer if you leave me alone. Now, get out or I will force you out."
"Stop it, Elsa!" He knew exactly what she was trying to do. She wants him to be mad at her so he would walk away from her. She truly wants to isolate herself because she thinks she is no good, but he knows better. He won't let her waste away her life when she can be doing so much more. She isn't a monster and her powers aren't a curse- they are a gift, whether she wants to admit it or not; whether she wants to see that or not. "You keep saying you are some horrible monster, but you're not! I'm not leaving your side, you know why? Because you mean too much to me. I told you this once and I will tell you again, "We are in this together. I love you, Elsa and if you think I am going to walk out of here, leaving you alone, then you really don't know me."
"That's the thing!" She cries; her voice cracking as she holds back her sobs that are threatening to leave her at any second, "I don't know you! I don't even know who I am. I won't let my powers hurt you, Jack. I may not remember anything, but despite that, I still can see I have some sort of feelings towards you and I won't risk that! I won't risk your life just so I could be happy! I don't want to be alone, I don't want to be some monster locked away in this… in this place! I'm here because I just don't want to hurt anyone… I don't want to do anymore damage."
Elsa walks over to him and gently places her cold hand on his cheek. She smiles sadly up at him and whispers, "It is nice that you have such high hopes for me and you are so determined to help me, but it's not worth it. I don't need my memories. I know, just by seeing what I possess, that I don't belong to be with anyone. I belong to remain alone. By myself." She closes her eyes and forces her next sentence out, whether she believes if it's true or not, she has to say it. She needs him to leave so he doesn't end up hurt- so she doesn't end up hurting him. "I… I don't need you."
Jack takes a small step backwards and shakes his head, tears coming to his eyes. He tries to open his mouth and say something, but nothing comes out. He looks down at the floor and swallows hard- swallowing around the burning lump that is stuck in the middle of his throat. He can feel his hands shaking, so he wraps his arms around him and hugs himself tightly. He closes his eyes for a brief second and whispers, "I need you though."
He can't take it anymore. He has never felt so heartbroken in his life. He shakes his head and before he can say another word, he feels his legs walking on their own. His mind tries to tell them to stop, but his legs guide him out of the room and down the long staircase made out of ice. He finds himself now running; the pain in his ankle still there, but it doesn't matter anymore.
Nothing matters anymore.
He doesn't remember when he grabbed his staff, but his staff is tightly in his right hand as he uses his left to grip the handle of the ice door and yanks it open. He steps outside, the strong winds hitting against his skin with such force. His eyes burn as a tear escapes his eye and slides down his pale cheek.
The hail gladly stopped, but snow was coming down fast. Jack didn't mind, however; he was the Guardian of Winter, after all.
His bare feet steps onto the snow and he begins walking straight, no particular destination in mind. He always felt so alone, deep down, but when he met Elsa, everything changed. He felt… what's the word? Complete.
Jack wipes at his eyes with the back of his hand and sucks in a deep breath. He tries to stay strong, but in the inside, he was breaking. He left… lost.
Above him, a full, glowing moon shines with millions of tiny stars surrounding it. The moon stood out compared to the dark, black sky; it looked beautiful. As he walks, he continuously stares up at the sky, admiring its beauty- something he and Elsa used to do together.
Jack can't help it as his mind starts wandering what Elsa is doing. She has no memories and she is all alone, locked away in her large, outstanding ice castle that she created a while back. She has no one now- just herself; just like now all he has is himself.
He kicks the snow with a huff leaving him; he feels like tearing out his hair and screaming as loud as he can. It took him so long to get her to trust him in the beginning. It took him so, so long for him to get her to see she wasn't a monster. Now… now everything he did for her, it doesn't matter anymore.
He never loved anymore before. He was never truly in love before, until he met Elsa. He loved her- God, did he love her. He loved being around her, loved hanging out with her, but now, he will never share any more moments with her. He will never get to hear her laugh or see her smile again. She doesn't hate him, he knows that, but she wants to be alone, without him. She wants to continue on her life, alone.
As another tea rolls down his pale cheek, he stops walking suddenly. He looks straight up at the sky and stares at the moon with wide, tearful eyes. "What am I supposed to do? Tell me what I am supposed to do!" He runs a shaky hand through his messy hair as another tear escapes his eye and another one and then another one. He was crying now, he knew it. He falls to his knees while his eyes remain on the moon, "I'm lost. I'm so lost."
She is punishing herself for all her mistakes- mistakes that weren't even her fault. She was blaming herself for what happened to Anna when they were children, for her parents' death, for possessing this power that she can't control. She shakes her head and sighs, "What have I done?"
She turns to glance out the window and she instantly spots the glowing, full moon. "Why did I say that to him?" She can feel a warm tear roll down her cheek, but she doesn't bother wiping it away- there is more to come, she is for sure of that. "I need him. I need him so, so much. I may not remember anything, but I know for sure that I need him."
The Snow Queen walks over to the bed and sighs, "I'm sorry, Jack." She wishes she could say that to him, but he is long gone by now. She will probably never see him again. That's what she wanted, right? Wrong. She closes her eyes and sighs once more, "I am such an idiot."
As she reopens her eyes, she spots two picture frames placed neatly on the table made out of pure, solid ice, beside the bed. Her eyebrows furrow together as she takes a closer look at them. One of them was a picture of her and Jack, both making weird faces as snow falls around them- they looked happy and in love. The other picture was her and her sister, Anna. She picks up the picture carefully and stares at the two young children who looked so, so happy. So full of life, so full of joy, and color. She smiles as she places her thumb right on Anna's cheek, stroking it gently as more tears spill down her cheeks.
"I-" Before any words manage to leave her mouth, she almost drops the picture as images rush before her eyes. Pictures and memories consume her vision and they replay like she is watching a film. This last for moments before a loud gasp leaves her and she jumps off the bed. She quickly places the picture on the bed and places her hand over her chest where her heart is, "Oh my God… I- I remember."
A wide smile graces her face as she jumps up and gone, clearly excited. "I remember! I have to tell Ja-" She stops herself mid-sentence. Her heart stops and her blood runs cold as she remembers everything that happened before regaining her memory. "Oh no… Jack!"
She lifts up her dress and rushes out of the room, ignoring whatever pain her body is experiencing. She has one mission in mind: Find Jack Frost.
Elsa flies down the stairs, almost stumbling on her way, and rushes to the front ice doors. She places her hands on the handles and right before she swings them open- she freezes. She rests her forehead against the doors and shakes her head.
"Will he still forgive me after what I said to him? Has he already gone back to the North Pole? Has he already forgotten me and moved on?" Questions race through her brain and she lets out a groan. Her head is spinning and it is throbbing in pain. She was such a bloody idiot for everything she has done and said to him. He was only trying to be supportive and nice. He was trying to be there for her when no one else was, but she hurt him.
"I don't deserve him." She finally whispers to herself. Her heart is pounding inside of her as she really thinks about the idea of losing him. "I don't deserve him." She repeats; her voice cracking.
Part of her wants to head back up the stairs and come to terms with the fact that he is gone and even if he wasn't, she doesn't deserve him, but the other part of her wants to race outside and find him- apologize to him. In her head, she battles with herself; both parts of her thinking the other part is wrong. She huffs and tries to think this through.
Which part of her do you think won at the end?
She swings the doors open and before she can take a step forward out onto the snowy mountain, he is standing there in front of her. She takes a step back and blinks at him; she definitely was not expecting to find him here. "You're… you're here."
Jack Frost nods his head slowly as he rubs the back of his neck, "Yeah, I'm… here. Listen, Elsa, before you say anything, I'm-"
"Sorry." The two of them both say at the same exact time. They both stare at each other, both looking confused as ever.
Elsa shakes her head, "What are you sorry for? You did absolutely nothing wrong."
"I… I shouldn't have pressured you. You don't have your memories and I shouldn't have left, and-" He starts ranting, which makes Elsa giggle. He cuts himself off and raises an eyebrow, "And you're… laughing?"
She nods her head and then takes his free hand that isn't holding his staff, "I remember. I remember everything, Jack. I am so, so sorry for how I treated you. I wasn't myself and I had no right to say the things I said to you. You deserve so much better than that, especially the way you have been taking care of me. I… I'm really sorry."
Jack can't help himself; he breaks into a wide grin. "I thought I lost you for a moment there, Elsa. I was so scared. I… I had to come back. I had to fight for you. You may not need me, but I certainly need you. I… Elsa, I love you so much."
The corners of her lips curve upwards into a smile and the next thing she knows, she throws her arms around his neck and pulls him into a tight embrace. She buries her head in the crook of his neck and holds him tightly against her; never wanting to let go.
He smiles as he buries his face in her hair and breathes in her scent. He sighs happily and wraps his slender arms around her waist, keeping her as close to him as possible. As they hug, Elsa whispers quietly to him, "I do need you, by the way, Jack."
If possible, his smile grew even more and he presses a light kiss to the side of her head. He pulls back his head just enough to gaze into her loving eyes and so he could press a gentle, but passionate kiss against her lips.
They don't know how long they stay like that, in each other's embrace and kissing one another, but neither one of them want to ever move from that spot. They love one another, they both are for sure of that, and they also know neither of them will ever be going anywhere. There will be rough times, but they will get through it, like they always do.
They always have each other and that will never change, ever.
